Fortnite Update March 7, 2020

Fortnite

Epic Games released an updated Fortnite update today. While no new content has been added, here are our notes on what has changed.

Epic announced yesterday that they will be releasing a Fortnite update today. However, this is just a maintenance update, and since v12.60 is expected next week, it's likely that nothing special will be added today.

Prior to the v12.50 update, Epic sent an email to creators in the support-a-creator program stating what would be added in the update. An email was sent out the day before the update, listing aspects including Party Royale and Heavy Sniper Rifle that were being scrapped after numerous complaints from the community.

Here's what we know from today's new Fortnite update.

FORTNITE UPDATE

PATCH NOTES

One of the main issues that players have had in Fortnite in the past year is SBMM (skill-based matchmaking). Players are placed in a lobby with similar stats to their own. We don't know exactly what goes into the matchmaking system, but it will include wins, kills, and other stats.

The problem with SBMM in Fortnite seems to be quite aggressive. For months, players have been complaining on social media that skill-based player encounters are broken, as they are attracted to players who are much better than them.

Fortnite

Epic hasn't contacted SBMM for some time, but the content creators sent out an email yesterday informing them that players have noticed changes to the squad playlist. They go on to state that they will tweak the game to feel right for players at all levels and will tweak it based on player feedback.

Following the recent announcement that there are currently 350 million Fortnite players registered worldwide, it looks like Epic is finally addressing the issues the player base is having with the game in its current state.

It will be interesting to see if Epic changes anything regarding forced cross-platform, as many players believe that PC players get an unfair advantage by constantly using the keyboard and mouse when compared to controllers and mobile players.
