League of Legends Update 12.10: Description of radical changes in Durability
League of Legends patch 12.10 is about to change the game forever. The so-called "longevity update" is the largest ever, with over 100 champions and nearly every item in the game affected in one way or another as Riot fixes major pacing issues: here are the full fix notes.
League of Legends patch 12.10 is arguably the biggest update of the year - even bigger than all of the pre-season changes that came in the off-season (remember Chemtech Drake?).
In between pro play splits, the “longevity refresh”, as it was coined, will drastically reduce burst damage and make team fights drag on longer. It won't be until Season 8's levels, but it will be a lot more expressive than the current meta, Riot hopes.
This may sound minor in name, but in practice, it's the longest list of changes in the game's 12-year history. Over 100 champions, most of the item shop, and a number of runes are on the hit list.
We'll cover what to expect from the LoL 12.10 patch right here with the full patch notes, as well as when it will launch.

What's changing in LoL 12.10 update?
Massive durability upgrade will shake up the meta
This is the biggest patch in League of Legends history, literally. Over 100 champions, half an item store, plus a number of runes are being revisited as Riot takes aim at the high damage meta taking over the game in Season 12.
It is called "durability upgrade”, and the developers hope to increase individual championship tankiness and stop the amount of explosive kills in the game.
"While tons of damage can be fun and exciting, we think the increase in champions' defensive stats will be helpful in allowing players to showcase their prowess by giving them more opportunities to counterplay and live out their high moments," the developers said. 6 May.
This includes increasing the base's defensive stats and culling some offensive capabilities, as well as healing and defense. Other mechanics like Grievous Wounds are also suffering to compensate for the drastic changes.
Healing and defense are being cut across the board as champions get more innate defensive stats.
Riot Confirms No Individual Champion Changes As Dust Settles
While there are community concerns that the durability update will make some champions wildly unbalanced - Vayne is a popular punching bag - Riot has confirmed that no individual champion changes will be made in LoL 12.10 patch as the dust settles on major systems changes.
Instead, Riot will keep an eye on the outliers for the first few days of the update, promising a micropatch within a few days if anything turns out too good (or bad).
“This is a pretty disruptive patch and we will be watching closely and ready to respond.” said the developer "Phlox" on May 16.
“Major changes like this just aren’t predictable enough for us to know which specific champion will be OP and for how long before release. It's going to be a fun time figuring out new builds and counters and all."
