No Man's Sky: Outlaws update lets you become an outlaw

It's been a few months, which means it's time for another No Man's Sky update.

This time the developer Hello Games presents an update Outlaws, which focuses on dark deals and space pirates. You will now find Outlaw systems that are much more hostile than other areas in the game. If you so desire, you will have the opportunity to complete missions set by pirates, smuggle illegal goods throughout the galaxy and sneak past the authorities.

With so much focus on space action, Hello Games is also making some key changes to ships and flights. Space combat has been redesigned to be more responsive, with new weapon and shield visual effects added to enemy ships. Weapons now have secondary effects and you will also be able to fight in the planet's atmosphere.

But that's not all. You can now assign wingmen to form a squadron, and there's also a new type of solar starship that will be the first to be added to the game after the live ship update a few years ago.

As you can see in the trailer above, there are also new cosmetic items such as capes with new cloth simulation physics so you can feel like a superhero while smuggling goods.

As always, you can expect all of this content to work in VR versions games. Presently No Man's Sky surely the biggest game for virtual reality? This gives us high hopes for the version for PSVR2when the headset comes out later.

List of changes:

Starships

  • A new starship class has been added - the Solar Sail ship.
  • Solar starships come in a wide variety of procedurally generated variations. They can be found throughout the galaxy, but are most commonly found in outlaw systems.
  • The Solar-class starship is equipped with unique technology for a fast and efficient impulse drive.
  • All ships now have a large cargo inventory. The initial size of the cargo inventory depends on the type and class of the ship.
  • The ship's cargo inventory can be upgraded at the starship's rescue station.
  • The maximum number of saveable ships has been increased from 6 to 9.
  • Players can now change their primary spaceship from the quick menu while in a cargo hangar.
  • The Companion Management Quick Menu option has been moved to the Utilities section of the menu while flying in a starship.
  • Calling other ships, including a cargo ship, now has a separate quick menu subsection.
  • While on a planet, players can sometimes see groups of frigates enter the atmosphere and pass by on their own missions around the universe.
  • Audio-visual cockpit alarms have been added to the ship to warn pilots of dangerous situations.

Illegal Systems

  • A number of star systems throughout the galaxy have been invaded by pirates. These systems can be identified on a galaxy map using the Conflict or Economy Scanner.
  • Outlaw systems feature a unique space station with its own set of NPCs.
  • Visit the Bounty Master aboard the outlaw station to complete a series of procedurally generated pirate missions and earn unique rewards.
  • Buy illegal goods from black market merchants aboard outlaw stations. Illegal goods can be sold for a large markup in the controlled space.
  • The maximum stack size for all trade goods, illegal or otherwise, has been increased.
  • In regulated systems, space station authorities will periodically scan incoming ships for illegal goods. Sentinel interceptors can be deployed to deal with inappropriate pilots.
  • A new technology is available, the cargo probe deflector, to try and deflect unwanted cargo scanning.
  • Earn fake passports by working for pirate gangs.
  • These fake starship registrations can be used on station cores in a regulated space to boost or reset reputation levels with system authorities.
  • Outlaw stations cannot be teleported directly from regular space stations, and vice versa.
  • Outlaw stations have their own tech dealer specializing in suspicious aftermarket upgrades.
  • The rewards for destroying starships - freighters, Guardians, pirates or merchants - have been varied and improved.
  • The rewards for saving a cargo ship from a pirate attack have been improved.
  • A new series of story missions has been added for outlaw systems. Complete these missions to earn unique customizations and titles.

Fabric modeling

  • Added support for cloth simulation.
  • Added fully customizable cape and hood options to the appearance modifier. Some options are available by default, while others need to be earned through missions or expeditions.

Expedition: Befuddled

  • Expedition XNUMX of The Blighted will start soon.
  • The Blighted Expedition will send players on a treasure hunt in a distant galaxy, where they will trace the routes of these mysterious pirates.
  • Expedition Blighted offers the chance to earn an exclusive starship trail; basic decorations in a pirate theme; your personal wayward cube/Jeff; unique cape customization and much more.

space fight

  • Guardian, Pirate, and Trader ships now have energy shields that must be depleted before the ship itself can be damaged.
  • Different classes of ships have shields of different strengths and shields that reload at different rates.
  • The player's spaceship weapons deal different damage to protected and unprotected targets.
  • The starship combat flight model has been improved for atmospheric combat.
  • Pirates can now attack while the player is flying in the planet's atmosphere.
  • Sentinel interceptors will now respond to crimes committed while flying in the planet's atmosphere.
  • Pirate ships occasionally attack planetary structures. Players who drive back or destroy these raids will be rewarded.
  • Space Combat has been rebalanced to make it more challenging for high-end players while still being accessible to those on launcher or non-combat ships.
  • Players now have the option to enable their starship's combat autopilot. This setting can be found under the "Controls" section of the options menu, and can be used as a hold (to apply additional leveling assistance to your target on demand) or as a toggle (to permanently apply automatic leveling to your current target).
  • The heat capacity of the phase beam has been increased.
  • The phase beam can now drain shield energy from enemy ships and transfer it to the player's shield.

  • The Infra-Knife Accelerator has increased range and base damage.
  • Infra-Knife Accelerator now deals additional damage to unprotected targets.
  • The heat capacity of the Infra-Knife Accelerator has been reduced, but now it cools down significantly faster.
  • Cyclotron Ballista's base firepower has been reduced.
  • Cyclotron Ballista has reduced dissipation and increased heat capacity.
  • Cyclotron Ballista now deals extremely high damage to starship shields, but low damage to starship hulls.
  • Cyclotron Ballista now disables enemy starship engines on impact, causing them to slowly drift.
  • Starship Missiles now deal additional damage to unprotected starship hulls, but greatly reduce damage to energy shields.
  • The starship HUD now more clearly displays weapon heat levels.
  • The off-screen target indicator has been moved to a central position around the starship's reticle.
  • The tethered mouse flight model has been changed to make ship handling more precise and responsive.
  • Potential damage indication now includes an additional indication of damage against energy shields if the damage levels of the shield and hull are different.
  • Fixed an issue where the speed readings on the starship screen (but not the actual maximum speed of the starship) were being artificially increased by maneuverability improvements.

Squadrons

  • Freighter players can now recruit NPC ships to their personal squadron.
  • Your squadron is controlled from the fleet control terminal on your capital ship's bridge.
  • Players can unlock up to four slots for their squadron.
