Vader Immortal Review - A Good VR Series

Vader Immortal: Star Wars VR Series came as a surprise to me. We expected a small win, but in fact the product is not bad, albeit in a non-standard packaging. We have a three-episode campaign and three wave-based challenge modes. In fact, a surprising wealth of content can be seen in aggregate viewing.

Each episode on its own isn't very impressive, but you still can't buy them separately for PlayStation VR, hThat makes their delivery method extremely strange. Each of the three episodes of Vader Immortal is considered a separate game and must be downloaded independently. It's such an odd choice that adds a lot of seemingly pointless load times. It's especially frustrating to switch from episode 2 to episode 3 because the narrative component of episode 2 is total 30 minutes.

The actual gameplay is a walking simulator and a stationary duel. You play as a descendant of the royal house of the once prosperous planet Mustafar - the same planet where Obi-Wan is known to underestimate Anakin's power - where you have been brought against your will. Then you must escape with your cheeky - maybe too cheeky - a robot and some local residents.

But the game is not in vain called Immortal Vader , and the legendary dark lord faces you at several points in a quest for immortality, culminating in a great lightsaber duel. Combat is centered almost exclusively on lightsabers, with a new gimmick introduced every episode. Episode 1 is a lightsaber; Episode 2 introduces powers; Episode 3 is the culmination of everything previously learned.

The narrative experience doesn't last long enough to feel like a master, but that's where the lightsaber dojo comes into play in each chapter. Each one has a unique 40 wave experience that allows you to really bend your Jedi. Unfortunately, you are locked and immobile for this, but the combat is fun enough not to be too frustrating. There are plenty of customization options, such as lightsaber hilt color and lightsaber color, but many of the "awards" are little more than motivational quotes. The experience is definitely fun, although rather limited.

Being able to wield a lightsaber and deflect laser blasts or pull a stormtrooper up close to impale it carries the appropriate weight, and there are many moments where the trappings of virtual reality disappear and you feel fully integrated into Star Wars. There are many such transcendental moments, and when this feeling is at full capacity, it is truly something special. As a starting point for a more expansive sequel, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about looking to the future.
