Description of Update 2.2 Wild Rift: Five New Champions, Connecting North America, etc.

LoL

Patch 2.2 Wild Rift has been touted as the biggest patch yet, and it's meant to be a major change. The update brings five new champions, as well as the launch of the North American servers, new items, and more.

LoL

Wild Rift has finally gone global. After several months of being in the dark, on March 29, one of the largest continents America will finally get servers .

The good news isn't limited to North American and Latin American players, however.

At the same time, patch 2.2 Wild Rift will be released with some pretty significant changes. Five new champions will be dropped, new tank items will be added, and a big change to the rankings is in testing.

Kha'Zix, Rengar, new features coming in patch 2.2 Wild Rift

Let's talk about the five new champions first. Kha'Zix and Rengar have spearheaded new releases, with Galio, Renekton and Rammus on the way. They will increase the list of Wild Rift champions to 66; almost half of League of Legends is on PC.

Two hunters and deadly enemies will be the focus of the next game event, Masters of the Hunt. More details on this will be released when the event kicks off in April 2021, but a new 'event-specific' gameplay system called Nemesis Hunt will be added.

Riot explained that five champions in total add variety not only to the roles, but also to the design of the champions.

"One of the things we've heard a lot is that there are a lot of humanoid champions in Wild Rift, instead of monstrous type creatures," Jane "DjangoUnjaned" Chen said .

New items for tanks help diversify the game

In terms of items, the Wild Rift store was a bit empty. Boris will receive a few more merchandise to sell to Summoner's Rift champions in patch 2.2.

Added three new tank items: Sunfire Cape, Frozen Heart и Power of nature. All three of these items already exist in League of Legends on PC and have been adapted to better suit Wild Rift mobile gameplay.

"While we're still evaluating mythic items for Wild Rift, we really like how the Sunfire Aegis gives tanks the ability to turn into a serious threat," Mike 'RogueFool' Breeze added, speaking specifically about Sunfire.

Tire, Briar and Winter's Approach are currently being reworked.

Wild Rift open beta coming to North America

The good news for North American players is that they will finally be able to test these changes without a VPN or other hurdles. Wild Rift is releasing in the Americas with patch 2.2 on March 29th.

An event called "Wild Welcome" will be organized for you. It unlocks champions and other game content faster than usual.

In addition to these changes, a new ranking system called "Position Preference" is currently being tested. This is different from role selection and autocomplete, as you are queued for all five roles —only in order from 1 to 5 from most preferred to least preferred.
