The Nether Update in Minecraft brings a bunch of changes to the game, including a rare but versatile ore.

Today, Minecraft is almost 10 years old, but the game continues to be an incredibly popular title that players keep coming back to over and over again. And if you haven't done it yourself, this newest update might just be the boost you need. Known as the Nether update is now available, developer Mojang has announced a number of additions and changes that will be added to the game, mostly around Nether itself. The Nether is a hellish area filled with fire and lava, but it's basically unchanged since its original inclusion in 2010.

So let's take a look at the new crafting materials first. The Nether Update introduces Ancient Fragment, a "fancy new ore" that can be mined in the lower depths of the Underworld. After collecting the material, you can recycle the material to create scrap neterite, which can be crafted with Gold Bars into Netherite Bars. The new patch also adds new wood materials, soul soil (which burns with blue flames), additional blocks, and more.

The Nether update also opens up three new biomes to explore: Crimson Forest, Soul Valley, and Warpong. Netherite can be found in every biome, fungi are the "trees" of the area, and a new type of vegetation covers the cave floors. Despite the general hostility of the Underworld, the Warped Forest is supposedly the "least hostile place" of the hellish landscape of molten lava.

Crimson Forest

Crimson nylium covers the floor of the cave with all sorts of strange new vegetation
Huge Crimson Mushrooms make up the "trees" of this forest, and Shroomlights illuminate the floor of the forest
Weeping vines grow from cave ceilings and mushrooms

Netherite (nitrite)

➤New high-level material found in the Nether. Use it to upgrade your diamond gear!

➤Ancient Ruins Mine in the lower depths of the Nether. At one's own risk. No insurance coverage for this
Recycle it into Netherite Scrap in a Furnace (although this is quite slow, so you may need a Blast Furnace)
Combine 4 Niterite Scrap with 4 Gold Ingots on the table to craft a Niterite Ingot.

Netherite Effects

Alloy items float in lava so you won't lose all your gear after that unplanned lava bath
Netherite items have a higher value than diamond (but not as high as gold)
➤Netherite tools work faster and last longer than diamond
Netherite weapons do more damage than diamond
Netherite armor has higher strength and durability than diamond
Netherite armor gives you knockback resistance so you can barely get knocked back when hit by arrows and the like

Valley of Souls and Sand

Valleys of Souls and Sands can now be found in the Nether!

➤Open space consisting mainly of Soul Sand and Soul Soil
➤Basalt columns extend from floor to ceiling
Fossils of unknown creatures from the past litter the valley
Ash falls into the air
➤A blue glow envelops the valley
➤Beware of skeletons here!

Sounds

The sounds of Ghasts are now audible at a shorter distance
Updated block sounds for Bones, Nether, Soul Sand, Nether, Nether, Bricks and Quartz Ore.

Distorted forest

Warped Forests can now be found in the Nether!
