Duke Nukem Begins Trailer We'll Never Play Is Published

The network showed the trailer of the canceled Duke Nukem Begins, which was supposed to tell about the young Duke Nukem.

The full trailer for the canceled Duke Nukem game has been released thanks to the 3D animator Janimation behind the project. Duke Nukem Begins was intended to be a third-person "young Duke story" and was originally intended to be the first Gearbox game licensed prior to the ill-fated Duke Nukem Forever.

Development Duke Nukem Begins, supposedly started around 2007 and was halted in 2009, two years before the final release of Duke Nukem Forever in 2011. During this time, both projects moved from 3D Realms to Gearbox, while Begins was put on hold and canceled. due to rights issues related to the franchise .

Now studio artist Gregor Punkac, who is best known for his modeling work in films such as RoboCop and monsters from the original Doom ”, presented the full trailer for the “vertical cut” created by his studio Janimation for Duke Nukem Begins.

The video is not actual gameplay, but is an animated example of what Begins would have been like, which was being developed в Max Payne style, albeit with the ability to target two enemies at the same time. It would have featured iconic Duke 3D weapons such as the Freeze Ray and Shrinker, as well as the ability to rip off an enemy's arm and use it as a melee weapon. Interestingly, elements of the project appear to have been reused in Duke Nukem Forever, as Octabrain enemy model exactly the same.

Gregor Punchatz says that "we put everything we had into creating the most stunning cinematic experience ever created" which the studio hoped would "help us compete with the bigger players in the game trailer market of the day." Unfortunately, due to the secrecy of the project and the cancellation, this never happened.

The situation is similar to what happened with a closed Superman project and the creators of Rogue Leader . However, it is possible that Duke Nukem Begins will eventually become the reality , since both the old and new copyright holders 3D Realms and Gearbox are now under the same publisher, the Embracer Group.
