Fortnite Island Turned White and Snowstorms Rage On It
It's day 9 of the Fortnite Winterfest Christmas event. Each day, a weapon or item is released from storage and can be used for 24 hours, players can open a new Fortnite gift, and there's a new challenge that will give players a free cosmetic reward when completed.
Over the past years, in the Fortnite 14 Days Christmas event, we've had two content updates to keep players entertained with new items or weapons. However, it looks like there won't be any content updates or any additions until Epic Games employees return from their earned vacation.
While we won't be receiving any new content, it looks like Epic is working on a new weather system for the game that we can currently test.
FORTNITE SNOW
If you hit Fortnite today, you will experience the blizzard that is currently raging on the island map. Oddly enough, while Epic didn't mention the blizzard on the Winterfest blog, it was actually teased in a loading screen weeks before it hit Fortnite Island.
If you look at the Rising Chaos loading screen, you'll notice a summary of weather data on the screen that is located at the level of the Chaos agent's head, which probably hints at a snowstorm/blizzard that is attacking the island.
Based on observations, it looks like blizzards last about 3 minutes. Once in the storm's area of effect, visibility deteriorates dozens of times, which makes close combat at this time the only viable option.
In the epicenter of the storm, sniper rifles become completely useless. There is an assumption that Epic is trying to provoke as many spectacular close fights with building elements as possible, because this is the main feature of Fortnite and it is because of the build and editing that we love Fortnite.
Blizzards don't always happen and seem to happen quite by accident. Last year, Epic added fog around this time, and players weren't very happy with the fact that this phenomenon was quite rare. These snowstorms seem much better thought out.
