Othercide - Useful Tips for Passing the Game
The game won't tell you some things until your squad is dead, so let's avoid death with this guide.
Tips and things you need to know
Introduction
The game has a very unique (not necessarily good) development path. Below I will try to warn you about some mechanical and design decisions that are quite counter-intuitive if you have played similar games before, so you may not have to get bored for moments due to mindless chores.
Basically, before the memory and the first era
Pumping and fighting
The game punishes you tremendously for squad favoritism by sacrificing mechanics. If you've just completed the tutorial and have already checked the manuals (not the game's fault), you'll run into the sacrifice mechanic. Basically, you can heal your squad by sacrificing another squad of the same level or higher. You might think for a second, like "Hmm, interesting stuff, makes the game more challenging and requires very strategic and smart play." And ok, you'll be partially right, unfortunately, leveling up takes a very long time, mainly because you can only complete 1 mission per character per day. Thus, you may find yourself in a situation where you simply do not have time to level the sacrificial material. And it will just sink into meaningless routine and self-restraint in the gameplay.
- You should always prioritize leveling levels of "Daughters" in your pool (despite the fact that you will get extremely thick stat gains for each level). You only have to complete 1 synapse per day, so use that to balance out the experience gain. Skip the synapses if you don't want to go overboard with someone, for example.
- It's better to spend your resume buying Daughters early. Upgrading is too expensive in the beginning. Once you have enough squads to shut down as many synapses as possible, start equipping the memory (and don't harm the leveling).
- You can run into a tank with 2 shield bearers and a girl. This will help you keep alive. The little guys deal almost 0 damage, and dangerous hunters can be scared to death by spam (and you'll never see them again in the timeline). For the boss - it is better to change 1 shield for a pistol.
- Enemies that are about to spawn (you will see hands on the ground) will only approach you when spawning, unless you are standing directly on the next square. This way you can split spawn points into at least 1 square without fear of taking damage.
- ➤If you don't want to remember more than you need, look for boss tactics. The game is entirely designed around missing lore (you will lose almost no matter what if you fight a boss with the wrong lineup) and stat walls. After playing, you will unlock extremely powerful buffs. In addition, you will be able to restore any daughter of any level from the very beginning (or you can save them for the boss).
- ➤In combat, you don't need to spend AP to move to enemies. Just wait for them to get as close as possible and attack. The game penalizes you very much for exceeding AP, so save AP unless the explosion is absolutely necessary or just safe.
- ➤Immediately after defeating the 1st boss, you will unlock the ability for new daughters starting at level 4. You will save time on healing for a long time.
- ➤Definitely check the in-game codex. Mostly descriptions of enemies. There are descriptions of attack priorities. This way, you can be almost sure who will attack whom. Very helpful.
- ➤Pay special attention to random events. Sometimes they can help you (or ♥♥♥ in the hole you least prefer) exclusively in boss fights. For example, reducing enemy health by 50%.
- ➤ Speaking of a strategy game. You can't choose the order of actions even if 2 units are at the same point in the timeline, which is weird and basically hinders most combo options.
Second era
Remember the bizarre "face-to-tank" tactics in the 1st era? Well, forget about it. The first era is basically a textbook. Now we come to the real game.
- There will be many more enemies in combat. Therefore, doing a lot of damage is better than trying to tank. Installing a dual blademaster with weapons is preferable, or you can go with two guns and one blademaster (if you have armor debuff upgrades for skills).
- In the second era, you will encounter 2 new enemies that can accumulate armor on themselves or teammates to the point that you cannot deal damage if you have multiple attacks with low damage or no armor debuff upgrades.
- ➤Get ready to ride your bike often. Their interrupt skill is very powerful. The description doesn't state how much damage they do, but it's a lot, plus you can't miss this skill, and it's an interrupt, of course.
