The first gameplay of The Witcher 3 remaster: details from the CD Projekt presentation
On the evening of November 23, CD Projekt RED hosted a REDstreams stream dedicated to The Witcher 3 remaster. An updated version of the game with improved graphics, models and textures will be released on PC and next-generation consoles.
During the broadcast, the developers showed the gameplay of the remaster for the first time and told what players can expect. In addition to graphics updates, the updated The Witcher 3 will receive free DLC in the style of The Witcher from Netflix; in addition, a number of custom mods are integrated into the game.
Here's what CD Projekt staff talked about during the stream.
- The game will receive support for FSR and DLSS upscaling. FSR will work on both PC and consoles.
- There will be no reflection tracing, but the quality of reflections in screen space has been improved. With the help of tracing, only the quality of global illumination was improved
- A new, ultra-high preset will appear.
- Added full photo mode. You can control the camera settings, add effects - nothing unexpected. After the release of the remaster, the developers will hold a screenshot contest.
- An alternative camera will appear with a view over Geralt's shoulder. You can switch between the new and old cameras in the settings.
- The new camera can be turned on separately for combat, riding and hiking.
- There will be two performance modes on consoles: Quality and Performance. In performance mode it will be 60 frames per second.
- In console versions, ray tracing works only in quality mode.
- There will be no ray tracing on the Xbox Series S, but there will be two modes: with 30 fps and 60 fps.
- Added support for the DualSense gamepad: there will be improved feedback, adaptive triggers also work.
- There will be cross-progression: after playing on the console, you can continue the game in the same save game on the PC. Or vice versa.
- Simplified switching between signs during the battle: now you do not need to go to the circular menu with time dilation, just hold down the button (on consoles, this is the left stick). A special tutorial will be added to the game.
- The map of the game world has been reworked. In particular, label filtering has been improved.
- The quality of many assets and textures has been improved: both large objects like characters and monsters have changed, as well as small things like grass and stones.
- Implemented a lot of player suggestions. For example, now Geralt's movement speed depends on how much the gamepad stick is tilted.
- In the settings, you can increase the font sizes of the interface and subtitles.
- The Witcher 3 can now be paused during cutscenes.
- While driving, the interface can switch to the minimum mode and hide almost entirely. This option is enabled in the settings separately for the mini-map and for tasks.
- Players can look forward to surprises not mentioned during the presentation and in the changelog.
- New items will appear: both weapons and armor. To get content, you will have to complete a new task.
- Some characters (such as Buttercup) will receive alternate costumes. And the Nilfgaardians will have alternative armor from the Netflix series - the same, unsuccessful one.
We already know the release date: the updated version will appear on December 14th.
