Why is Apex Legends losing ground quickly? Analyst Opinion

Apex Legends

After analyzing key data on Twitch and Google, financial experts are calling Apex Legends "wildly overpriced" and predicting that it is already on its way to a decline into mainstream online gaming.

Almost immediately after its surprise release on February 4th, Apex Legends experienced an explosion of success that saw all-time records in viewership and player numbers. However, things have certainly calmed down since then, and analysts at Seeking Alpha believe that this trend will only continue to progress downwards.

Terrible Twitch and Google data

In today's world, one of the most important indicators of a game's success rate is how well it performs on the online streaming platform Twitch, based on the number of views.

The graph below shows how Apex Legends' average viewership has dwindled since it hit nearly 400 viewers shortly after its release.

This chart becomes even more intimidating when you consider the fact that EA publishers paid large sums of money popular streamers like Tyler 'Ninja' Blevins to live stream and promote the game.

As far as Google is concerned, a similar trend can be seen in the interest shown in Apex Legends from early February to mid-April, now only a small percentage of users are searching for the game, compared to what it used to be.

Players Leave the Frontier

Respawn Entertainment has been heavily criticized for the lackluster content it released during the highly anticipated Season 1 Battle Pass launch. The lack of new content has left the game a little dated, leading some of the remaining standout streamers like Shroud and Dr Disrespect to cut their Apex-related content significantly and even decide to stop playing the game.

All this in addition to the fact that the game is still full of game-breaking bugs, glitches, hacks and exploits that threaten its integrity and sometimes make it unplayable.

Fortnite Battle Royale continues to dominate

When Apex Legends first appeared, many were quick to call him the "Fortnite Battle Royale Killer", predicting that he would dethrone the Epic Games cash cow from the throne of the battle royale genre. Not only did it not even come close, Epic has adopted some of Apex's popular features like the Ping system and player respawn mechanisms, making their rival a lot less unique than it was when it first launched.

According to official statistics, Apex only had about 10% of Google searches that had Fortnite BR, about 20% of his Twitch views, and nearly 4% of his YouTube searches, which shows just how far behind Apex is.

In conclusion…

So what does all this mean for Apex Legends, which many thought was the next big thing in the battle royale genre? According to Seeking Alpha, these stats pretty much prove that the game "isn't a serious Fortnite contender" and is "worth less than its implied cost," which is currently $15 billion.

It seems like their predictions reflect what others have been thinking over the last few weeks - that the negatives of Apex will outweigh its positives and the game will eventually fade into the shadow of Fortnite.
