Dawn of a new day
Leave your room
The first thing you need to do is leave your premises. When you go outside, you will be greeted by Akira or Rey, who will remind you that the most important thing you need to focus on right now is to complete this Pokedex by catching every Pokemon. Head to the Survey Corps office and Captain Sillin's room to learn more about your new orders.
During the conversation, Volo will appear and offer his experience as you discuss Legendary Pokémon. As someone with great knowledge of Hisuian Pokémon legends, he offers to help you - and also says that he has a pressing matter that he needs to discuss with you.
This will unlock the Myth Explorer mission, which will require you to travel to the Obsidian Fields to start.
Myth Explorer
The Myth Explorer mission will have you travel through the following areas. Click on them to learn more about them, such as the Pokémon that appear there:
- obsidian fields
- Camp Heights
- Exhausting Grove
- ancient retreat
Go to Obsidian fields
Leave Jubilee Village and travel to Camp Heights in the Obsidian Fields. When you get to the camp, talk to Volo. He will explain that he has researched hieroglyphs that tell the story of someone who works alongside Pokémon and is looking for fragments of an all-encompassing deity. Sounds familiar…
The name of the all-encompassing deity is actually Arseus. It turns out that the plates you collected when you suppressed the rabid Pokemon have something engraved on the back. Volo then states that you and he should work together to collect all the plates.
First stop for this new adventure? Exhausting grove. You will find this in the northeast of the Obsidian Fields. Meet Volo there and you'll quickly run into an Alpha Vespiken you need to fight.
Battle with Alpha Vespiken
Vespiquen is a Bug and Flying type Pokémon, making it weak to Fire, Electricity, Ice, and Rock moves. He is immune to ground-type attacks, so it's best to avoid them!
After the battle
After you have defeated the Vespiken, you will receive the Stone Plate. This is the first of many plates that you will have to collect during post-game missions.
After a short discussion with Volo, he will offer to take it to Mistress Kogita at the Ancient Retreat to see what she knows.
In ancient seclusion
When you speak to Mistress Kogita in the Ancient Retreat, she will shed more light on the legends behind each of the Plates you need to find.
This will unlock five missions where you will need to collect five plates. These include:
- Plate of lakes
- Plate of Firebar Island
- Plate Moonview Arena
- Snowpoint Temple Plate
- Beach Plate Prelude
Plate of lakes
Locations of Plates of Lakes
The Plate of the Lakes mission will have you travel through the following areas:
- obsidian fields
- Crimson Mirlands
- Alabaster Iceland
Catch 3 Lake Pokémon
Volo will hit the road at the beginning of this mission and tell you to capture the Pokémon that are needed while he does his own background research.
Return to Jubilife Village, as soon as you enter the gate, Commander Kamado will approach you. He has a message for you from Mistress Kogita and then he says to meet you at Prelude Beach when you are ready, as he understands that you are collecting plates from Volo.
If you go to Prelude Beach, this will start the mission The Plate of Prelude Beach. Once this conversation is over, you'll need to head back to Lake Verity, Lake Valor, and Lake Sharpness to catch the three lake Pokémon: Mesprit, Ussi, and Azelf.
Catch Mesprit
Travel to Obsidian Feelands and return to Lake Verity. Return to Verity's cave. You will need to weaken Mesprit, but not defeat him, so you can capture him. We recommend using one of those Ultra Balls Commander Kamado gave you earlier if you haven't used them.
Catch Azel
Travel to the Crimson Mirlands and return to Valor Lake. Travel to the Cave of Valor where you will encounter Azelf again. As with Mesprit, you'll want to weaken Azelf, but not defeat him. When he is weak, you will be able to capture him.
Catch Wuxi
As with the previous two, you'll want to weaken Uxie in order to be able to grab it. Travel to Alabaster Icelands and head to Ostrota Lake. Enter the Cave of Sharpness and fight Wuxi until she is weak enough for you to drop the Poke Ball and capture it.
When you catch all three Lake Pokémon, you will receive the Dragon Plate.
Plate of Firebar Island
The Plate of Firespit Island mission will have you travel through the following areas:
- cobalt coast
- Firebar Island
- Molten Arena
Plate of fire islands
Head to the Cobalt Coast where you will meet Palina and Irida. Palina tells you that something is wrong on Firespit Island again, so that's where we're headed!
Travel to Firescythe Island and back to Molten Arena. You will find Irida and Iskan near the arena, waiting at the entrance to the dome. Get inside the Lava Dome Sanctuary and you'll soon see a large Pokémon in front of you.
This is Heatran and he will automatically create a fire barrier around him so you can't attack him.
How to beat Heatran
There are many Mud Balls scattered around the Lava Dome Sanctuary that you will need to use. While dodging Heatran's attacks, throw mud balls to break the barrier. Once you've thrown enough mud balls, you'll be able to fight Heatran.
Like the Three Lake Pokémon, you want to weaken Heatran but not defeat it so you can capture it. Heatran is a Fire and Steel type Pokémon, so it will be weak to water, ground, and combat moves.
Once you weaken Heatran enough, capture him. This will reward you with an Iron Plate.
After a short conversation between Irida and Iskan, the mission will be completed and you can return to Jubilife Village to go on the next quest for one of the Plates!
Plate Moonview Arena
The Plate of Moonview Arena mission will have you travel through the following areas:
- Coronet Highlands
- Moonview Arena
Plate Moonview Arena
Head to Mount Coronet and the Moonview Arena. When you get there, you will see Calabra and Mellie and have a short conversation with them.
Mellie will ask if you know the Pokémon Cresselia that has descended on the Moonview Arena. Melly wants you to catch it for her, so head to the arena to meet Cresselia.
You will need to weaken it again, as you did with the previous Pokemon, but not defeat it, so you can capture it. The most interesting thing about this fight is that Cresselia will confuse you at the start of the battle, meaning your controls will be flipped for a while. This will eventually disappear and you will be able to fight Cresselia.
How to fight Cresselia
Cresselia is a Psychic-type Pokemon, so you'll want to take Pokemon with moves that are Bug, Dark, or Ghost-type. He is immune to ground-type attacks.
After the battle
Once you loosen it enough, throw the ball and catch it. As a reward, you will receive a Plate of Fear.
Snowpoint Temple Plate
The Plate of Snowpoint Temple mission will have you travel through the following areas:
- Alabaster Iceland
- Temple Snowpoint
Snowpoint Temple Plate
Head to the Alabaster Icelands to begin your journey. Once there, return to the Snowpoint Temple. Go inside, follow the marker to the end of the room and to the right to find a large door.
Adaman and Sabi will appear when you reach the door. They will tell you that it won't open. Examine it when prompted to do so, and the previous tablets you've collected will react along with the door. This will open the door.
Go down the stairs to meet Regigigas, who is incredibly large. You will need to weaken Regigigas in the same way as with the previous Pokémon and capture it when its health bar is low enough.
How to fight Regigigas
Regigigas is a Normal-type Pokémon that is weak to Fighting Pokémon and attacks. It is also immune to Pokémon and Ghost-type attacks.
After the battle
When you weaken the Regigigas, drop the Poke Ball and grab it.
Once it has been successfully captured, you will receive an empty plate. It's time to head back to Jubilee Village to go get the Prelude Beach Plate.
Beach Plate Prelude
The Plate of Prelude Beach mission will have you travel through the following areas:
- Jubilife Village
- Prelude Beach
Beach Plate Prelude
In this mission, you will receive your fifth and final plate. Travel to Jubilee Village and head to Prelude Beach to meet Commander Kamado. He will be waiting for you at the pier.
Approach him and talk to him. To get a plate from him, you will need to fight him again.
Trainer Battle! Vs. Commander Kamado
Lv. | Pokemon | A type |
---|---|---|
Lv.65 | Hisuyan Braviary | Psychic/Flight |
Lv. five | Golem | Stone/Soil |
Lv. five | Snorlax | Normal |
Lv. five | Collarbone | Fairy |
Lv. five | Hercross | Bug/Fighting |
Kamado's team will be much the same as in the battle on top of Mount Coronet, except this time he will also have Hercross (and his team will be stronger).
When creating your Pokémon team against Commander Kamado, be aware that his Hisui Braviary will be weak to several things, including moves such as Doom, Electricity, and Ice. But resistant to ground, grass and combat moves.
The golem is also weak to Ice-type moves, as well as water-type moves, which will deal a significant amount of damage. Snorlax is weak to combat-type moves, while Hercross is weak to flying and fire-type moves. Finally, Clefable is weak to moves such as Poison and Steel.
After the battle
When you defeat Captain Kamado, you will receive the Fist.
After that, you will head back to the Ancient Retreat to meet Lady Kogita and Volo again. You will discuss the plates and discover that there is something else that will lead you to search for the remaining plates.
In search of the remaining plates
The mission "Finding the Remaining Plates" will have you travel through the following areas:
- ancient retreat
- Coronet Highlands
- Ruins of Celestia
- stone portal
- Sinnoh Temple
Spoilers ahead!
Be aware that this mission contains major post-game spoilers, so if you happen to land on this page now is your chance to avoid them.
In search of the remaining plates
Return to the Ancient Retreat and talk to Kogita with Volo to learn more about the plates you just collected. She will ask you to bring her three pieces of wood. Once you hand them over, she will tell you that she doesn't really know that much about plates, but she hands you the Pixie plate she used as a cutting board!
Volo says that since you've collected so many, he has a premonition that you should go to the ruins of Celestica, especially since there are statues of Dialga and Palkia there. Leave the Ancient Retreat and return to Jubilife VIllage and then to Coronet Highlands. Find the marker for the Sacred Square, which is located southeast of the Summit Camp.
Meet Volo there and then see the ruins with him. He will tell you about another statue that used to be here, which is the great Pokémon Giratina. He will ask you where you think he will appear, and that is of course Sinnoh Temple where you fought Palkia or Dialga earlier. So, now head back to Sinnoh Temple to meet Wolo at the top.
When you are there, you notice that Volo is behaving rather strangely, and he will tell you that he was obsessed with the idea of meeting Arcei himself and that he is the cause of the rift and space rift when he searched for Giratina.
And he made you collect the plates so that they could all be returned to the temple. You have 17 out of 18 but he shows he has the last one. After a quick transformation, he will ask you to hand over the plates so he can meet up with Arcaeus. Of course, he challenges you to fight him if you want the world not to disappear.
See How to Defeat Volo for even more details and tips for this battle!
Trainer Battle! Vs. Pokemon Wheeler Volo
Lv. | Pokemon | A type |
---|---|---|
Lv.68 | Spiritomb | Ghost/Darkness |
Lv. five | Togekiss | Fairy/Flying |
Lv. five | Arkanin | Fire/Rock |
Lv. five | Garchomp | Dragon/Earth |
Lv. five | Roserad | Grass/Poison |
Lv. five | Lucario | Wrestling/Steel |
Preparations for the battle with Volo
For this battle, we recommend taking Pokémon that are between Lv. from 68 to 70, as well as being a six-star rank so that higher level Pokémon obey you. Try to use agile style moves wherever you can to get hits quickly.
You'll also want to take a lot of health and revive potions to keep as many of your Pokémon alive and at full health bars by the end of this battle. Volo will use full recovery to ensure his Pokémon stay alive, so try to use moves that are super effective against his Pokémon to land critical hits in one shot.
Here's what the following Pokémon are weak and resistant to:
Pokemon | Weak against | Immunity | Resistance to |
---|---|---|---|
Spiritomb | Fairy | Psychic, Fighting, Normal | Poison |
Togekiss | Steel, Poison, Ice, Electric, Stone | Earth, Dragon | Beetle, Grass, Darkness, Fighting |
Hisuyan Arkanin | Earth, Rock, Water, Fight | Nothing | Poison, Beetle, Flying, Normal, Fire, Ice, Fairy |
Garchomp | Fairy, Ice, Dragon | Электрический | Stone, Fire, Poison |
Roserad | Fire, Psychic, Flying, Ice | Nothing | Water, Fighting, Electric, Fairy, Grass |
Lucario | Fire, Earth, Fight | Poison | Beetle, Stone, Normal, Grass, Ice, Steel, Dragon, Dark |
Having a mixed team that has Pokemon with moves like Fairy, Ice, Rock, Earth, and Fire will prove useful in this battle and beyond. It's best to avoid using Pokémon with attacks like Poison, Grass, and Bug.
Our recommendation for this fight is to take the Pokémon you picked up while collecting plates, as well as Dialga and Palkia. Cresselia, Heatran and Regigigas will be able to land super effective strikes for different rounds. Cresselia will be useful against both Spiritomb and Roserade, while Heatran will prove useful against Togekiss, Hisuyan Arkanin, Roserada and Lucario. Finally, Dialga or Palkia will work best against Garchomp.
After the battle
After you have defeated Volo, Zhiratina will soon join you. Sorry your pokemon won't be healed until this battle, so the progress you make and the Pokémon you lose during the first fight with Volo will carry over to this one.
Battle with Zhiratina
Since a large part of the fight with Volo affects how you play in the fight with Giratina, the team you take in the first fight will be decisive here. If you've taken the recommended team and are at the level we suggested, it should mean it's just a case of learning which Pokemon to deploy in which order and the attacks that Giratina can deliver.
Giratina is a Ghost and Dragon type Pokémon and is weak to Dark, Fairy, Ice, Ghost, and Dragon attacks. The Cresselia we mentioned earlier will be able to land the Moonblast attack, which is super effective against Giratina. If you're using the Heatran you picked up during The Plate of Firespit Islands, you can also use the dark-type Crunch move, which will be super effective. Both Dialga and Palkia will be able to use their Dragon-type attacks during this battle, which will also be Super Effective.
Cresselia is good to start a fight by using Moonblast in a strong style to hit Giratina's health bar significantly. However, Giratina will shield herself, making it difficult to land these attacks and start using Shadow Force, which is an extremely powerful attack. To keep Cresselia in combat, it's best to use health items when Giratina is hiding herself. If you're loaded with Max Potions, you should only be able to see this fight with Cresselia, but if you lose her then drop another one of your Pokémon to land the finishing blows.
Fighting Zhiratina for the second time
When you beat Giratina, she will evolve and take on her second form... and you'll have to fight it again. If you lost to any Pokémon in the previous round, you should still have a few strong fighters that you can use for this battle. Dialga and Palkia are strong options, with their Dragon type moves, Roar of Time, and Spatial Rand deal a significant amount of damage (especially if you've mastered their moves and can switch them to a strong style). With these Pokémon, it should take a few hits to finish off Giratina.
Once he is defeated, Volo will hand over the Spooky Plate. Now that you have collected all the cymbals, the Celestica flute will turn into an azure flute. And you will have one last mission to complete...
