In this ultimate defense guide, we'll cover everything Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC players need to know to get their players to defend like José Mourinho's team.
At times in FIFA 20, the game could be similar to chess. Players were too deep by default, and the EA SPORTS development team has been working to fix these issues in the next part. Time will tell if the community will approve.

This includes controlled tackling, player personality, standing tackling change, defensive awareness, and aggression attributes. During the game, you will have to master each of them if you want to play at a high level. The blocking has also been changed.
How to defend in FIFA 21
In this section, we will break down the various features and control options available in FIFA 21. This includes standing tackles, instant hard tackles, and more.
Regular Selection
With this type of tackle, previous games have been quite inconsistent. Sometimes you can use the defender to push the player, or step ahead of him and start defending the ball. This is a big change that FIFA 21 has made.
As shown below, we can now use defenders to really assert our physical superiority. This, and other details of the defense were confirmed EA before.
Since the gameplay is not available, as of August 2020, we have no information on how it is performed in the game. A quick guess will tell you that the controls will be similar to jockey controls, which can be done by clicking L2/LT Hold Down + Direction. From there, the usual capture button B or Circle should take the ball under your control.
You should feel the full benefit of it. When a fast attacker pushes the ball in front of him to use speed to defeat your defense, the defenders now have their own riposte. Use standing tackles to your advantage and this should allow your centre-backs and maybe even midfielders to take control of the situation.
Instant hard tackles
If you want to show your teeth at the start of the game, this feature is for you. That's for sure.
Instant hard tackles have been added to FIFA 21. They allow players to knock others off the ball with serious power and speed.
To do this, just click R1/RB+O/B. This will allow you to perform complex selections instantly, without having to hold and turn on the selection button, as was previously necessary.
Locking
Blocks have been modified using each player's controlled artificial intelligence. Here, the best football players will have improved abilities with a new player personality system.

“To address this issue, we have updated the Team Press Quick Tactic so that it no longer results in a defensive constant pressure tactic. It now triggers the temporary Auto Press behavior on demand and with a cooldown timer that prevents it from being overused."
For offside traps, the new manual switch feature will allow you to control the players who create the trap. This should add another string to your bow for defense, as sometimes an offside trap can catch a defense trying to execute it. Now you have a plan B.
Chemistry styles
There are a number of chemistry styles approved for the game, and the following can be used on the defenders, with the goaltenders immediately following.

Other FIFA 21 Defense Changes You Need to Know About
It's important to be aware of the changes in order to learn how to defend in FIFA 21. Defending like you did in the previous game is a good starting point, but it will only get you there.
EA SPORTS has confirmed a small list of other defensive changes. These include the following:
- The use of the shoulders has been reworked to improve contact between players and avoid the defender passing the opponent.
- Seal Outs are when a defender steps between an attacker and the ball to regain possession of the ball or put the ball out of play, and they have also been redesigned to better position themselves between a player and their opponent.
- ➤To make shoulder contact or out of action, press the button L2/LT, being side by side with the enemy when defending.
