There is no denying that the most popular genre these days are superhero movies. Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy proved that comic book adaptations can be just as dramatic and heavy as non-genre films.

Now that just about every major studio is working on turning their own comics into the next big franchise, Marvel Studios and Warner Bros. preparing material for half a decade, sometimes it is difficult to keep track of what, when it comes out and how it fits into the big picture.

Below, you'll find a detailed guide to superhero movie release dates for each major comic book adaptation on the calendar, all the way up to 2024. In addition, we will regularly update this guide with the latest information, so you can come back here for a quick refresher.

Thor 4: Love and Thunder

Film Thor 4: Love and Thunder - this is a continuation of the famous adventures of Thor, the 4th part of the franchise will be released this summer. The iconic God of Thunder returns with a host of familiar characters from the Marvel Universe.

Black Adam is not the only project involving Dwayne Johnson and the DC Universe. Johnson will voice Superman's loyal dog companion Krypto, along with his Jumanji co-star Kevin Hart. in the cartoon super pets Krypto will have to join forces with a ragtag team of superpowered pets from an orphanage to save the Justice League after they are kidnapped by Lex Luthor and Lulu, a hairless guinea pig.

Black Adam

This project first appeared many years ago when Warner Bros. invited Dwayne Johnson to play the villain Shazam Black Adam. The idea was for Johnson to star in the film "Shazam”, but in the spring of 2017, Johnson revealed that they had decided to make two separate films, one for Shazam and the other for his antagonist/antihero Black Adam.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Ryan Coogler returns to write and direct "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" and Chadwick Boseman was ready to reprise the lead role before his shocking death. Marvel has stated that they will not be recasting the role of T'Challa. Michaela Coel was cast in an uncredited role and filming began in July 2021 in Atlanta.

Shazam 2! Fury of the gods

  • Starring: Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Faith Herman, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Helen Mirren, Grace Fulton and Lucy Liu.

Director David F. Sandberg returns to direct the sequel to DC's 2019 hit Shazam! with Zachary Levi reprising his role as the titular teenage superhero and Asher Angel back as his teenage alter ego.

This time, Shazam will have his adopted family by his side to take on the Daughters of Atlas, played by Academy Award winner Helen Mirren and the legendary Lucy Liu. West Side Story star Rachel Zegler will also join the cast in an undisclosed role.

Kraven the Hunter

List of 2023 superhero movies opens "Craven the Hunter", the fourth film in the Sony Spider-Man universe. The film will be directed by Triple Frontier director JC Chandor. The main role of the anti-hero will take over Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who is familiar with the world of superheroes having starred in the Kick-Ass movies and played Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania

In November 2019, Marvel Studios announced that Peyton Reed would return to direct a third Ant-Man film. Rick and Morty screenwriter Jeff Loveless was subsequently hired to write the script, with Kathryn Newton joining the cast as the older version of Scott Lang's daughter Cassie, while Jonathan Majors will play villain Kang the Conqueror. Filming began in the summer of 2021 and wrapped up in November 2021.

Aquaman 2: The Lost Realm

When Aquaman hit theaters in December 2018, it unexpectedly became the DCEU's highest-grossing film to date, surpassing $1,1 billion. With that in mind, Warner Bros. started working on a sequel. The studio has now set a release date as far back as 2022 to give the film enough development time. Filming began in July 2021 and the title of the film is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3

  • Director / screenwriter: James Gunn
  • Starring: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldanha, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Will Poulter, Elizabeth Debicki.

Production on the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie was originally supposed to start in early 2019, but writer/director James Gunn was fired from the film last fall after some bad jokes he made on Twitter a few years ago surfaced. But in March 2019, it was announced that Gunn was being rehired to direct the film. Thus, he will complete the trilogy, as he originally planned. Filming began in November 2021 and the film will be released in 2023.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2

  • Starring: Oscar Isaac, Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez.

Sony Pictures began implementing plans for a sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse shortly after the successful launch of the Oscar-winning animated film, but the creative team is a little different. Phil Lord and Chris Miller return as producers and co-writers, but Legend of Korra alum Joaquim Dos Santos sits in the director's chair with Kemp Powers (Soul) and Justin K. Thompson.

Flash

  • Starring: Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle, Kiersey Clemons, Maribel Verdu, Michael Shannon and Ron Livingston.

Ezra Miller will return as Barry Allen in the upcoming DCEU film The Flash. Ezra Miller's The Flash was first introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before he made his first full appearance in Justice League. A role that was later improved and expanded upon in the director's cut of Zack Snyder's Justice League.

In Flash will feature the highly anticipated return of Supergirl and Michael Keaton as Batman.

Madame Web

  • Release date: July 7 2023 city
  • Producer: S.J. Clarkson
  • Starring: Dakota Johnson, Sidney Sweeney, Celeste O'Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim.

Madame Web will be the fifth film in the Sony Spider-Man universe, directed by esteemed television director S. J. Clarkson. The film plays the main role Dakota Johnson. So far, no plot details of the film have been revealed.

  • Starring: Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson and Zavi Ashton.

Marvel has hired director of the upcoming Candyman remake, Nia DaCosta, to helm Captain Marvel 2, in which Teyonah Parris will play Monica Rambo, Iman Vellani will play Ms. Marvel, and Zawe Ashton will play the villain. In May 2021, it became known that the film is called Marvels. Filming began in the summer of 2021 in London.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

A new animated feature-length reboot of pizza-loving teenage turtles and martial artists is on its way to the big screen. Produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and co-directed by Jeff Rowe, the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles serve as the starting point for a new film franchise.

blue beetle

  • Starring: Xolo Mariduegna, Bruna Marquesin, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barrasa, Harvey Guillen and Susan Sarandon.

Originally conceived as an HBO Max exclusive, Blue Beetle will hit theaters in August 2023. Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña will play the role of teenage Jaime Reyes, also known as the superhero Blue Beetle. The film will be directed by Ángel Manuel Soto from a screenplay written by Miss Ball screenwriter Gareth Dunnett-Alcocer.

Batgirl

  • Directed by: Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah
  • Starring: Leslie Grace, J.K. Simmons, Brendan Fraser, Jacob Scipio, Ivory Aquino, Rebecca Front, Corey Johnson, Ethan Kai and Michael Keaton.

Warner Bros. hired Marvel's Joss Whedon to write and direct a Batgirl movie. He spent a year working on the script, during which time he also supervised reshoots and post-production for Justice League, but in February 2018, Whedon announced that he was leaving the project because "can't think of a story". Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah will direct, and in July 2021, Leslie Grace signed on to play Batgirl. The film will be released exclusively on HBO Max.

El Muerto

Musical superstar Bad Bunny has been announced to star in Sony's sixth Spider-Man movie, El Muerto, based on an obscure minor character from the Spider-Man comics. At the moment there is no director or even a screenwriter, but the release date has already been set for January 2024.

Fantastic Four

In December 2020, Marvel announced that Jon Watts, who directed Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, will be directing an all-new Fantastic Four reboot. ' to introduce the characters.

Blade

Oscar-winning 'Moonlight' and 'Green Book' actor Mahershala Ali was the surprise guest at the Marvel Comic-Con 2019 panel, announced as the new Blade without any details. In July 2021, Marvel brought on Bassam Tariq to direct, with Stacey Osei-Kuffour writing the screenplay.

Plot details Blade not yet disclosed. It will most likely follow Blade's origins and how he became a vampire slayer, but the majority of the film will apparently follow Eric as an established and accomplished vampire hunter. This would allow the film to answer where Blade has been throughout the history of the MCU. Blade's actual story will depend on which villain confronts him in the first film.
