The Sony Playstation VR 2 gaming system is on its way. What will virtual reality be like on PS5, and how will it be better than the first iteration? Here's everything we know about PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2).
Despite Sony initially saying they had "no plans" to update VR on the PS5, the tech giant did announce the PlayStation VR2 (or PS VR2) just a few months later. We now have a full detailed look at the hardware in all its glory and the specs behind it.
Now that we know that PlayStation VR2 is a reality, here's everything Sony has to offer us regarding the updated VR experience on PS5.

PS VR2 release date
Sony has yet to provide a release date for PS VR2. While we have already heard a lot about the new device, there is currently no specific launch window.
The report Bloomberg it has recently been claimed that the goal is New Year holidays 2022 of the year. If not, then Sony could delay the release for another year. Thus, New Year holidays 2023 becomes the next likely date.
An interesting note comes from Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants and an expert in the field, who tweeted: “VR display shipments will grow >50% to >15 million in 2022 on delays until 2023 at Apple and Sony. A big jump is predicted in 2023.”
As we said, there is no official date, but if all this is accurate, then it will almost certainly mean that PS VR2 will be released in 2023.
Since then these reports have been backed up by industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said production will pick up in late 2022 with a Q1 2023 launch.
PlayStation VR2 price
What will be the price of PS VR2 at this stage is not known. Sony launched the original PS VR for $399, so we suspect the PlayStation VR2 will be similarly priced, perhaps a bit more to account for advanced technology and inflation.
What does PS VR2 look like?

The redesigned headset shares many similarities with the original model, but now the front has a "round ball shape representing the 360-degree view that players experience when they enter the world of virtual reality." According to Sony, the new headset was also "inspired by the look and feel of PS5 family products," so gamers should expect some familiar comfort in certain aspects.
Aside from the headset, the controllers themselves have probably seen the biggest overhaul yet. The old-school PS3 Move controller aesthetic has been ditched in favor of a sleek new look. It would be fair to say that they look a lot more like Oculus controllers, but considering how well the Oculus setup is, it's not a bad choice.

PS VR2 technology and features
VR gaming on PC has taken leaps and bounds since PlayStation VR launched on PS4 in 2016. PS VR2 will need to make a few changes to keep up with the times.
Sony has already announced that the PS VR processor will not be returning for the PlayStation VR2. Instead, the headset will connect to the PS5 console using USB-C. The company also confirmed that the new headset will come with a 4K display, thanks to OLED technology enhancing every eye lens.
The new controllers will borrow features from the DualSense controller, such as adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and improved tracking. This will not only enhance the PlayStation VR2 experience, but also help it feel like a worthy PS5 companion. The new PlayStation VR2 controller will also be called PlayStation VR Sense, keeping it consistent with the PS5's DualSense controller.
Games on PS VR 2
One of the most exciting things about PS VR2 is the improvements over PS VR 1 that will allow more PlayStation users to experience the reverse catalog of games. We fully expect PlayStation VR2 to bring these games, but with quality adjustments made to each one.
With most PS4 games already on PS5 and an Xbox-style Games Pass service in development, we can bet it will impact PlayStation VR2 in a meaningful way.

We also know for a fact that original games are the focus of various PlayStation Studios. "Over 20 major first and third party titles" have been confirmed to launch, and while it's not clear what the majority is at the moment, it's only a matter of time before we find out.
Rumors about PS5 Pro and PS VR2
New rumors suggest the PS5 Pro is in the early stages of development. It says that the global shortage of chips has already led Sony to consider redesigning the PS5, opting for more powerful hardware rather than continuing to struggle with finding existing components.
It has long been speculated that a shortage of chips will hinder Sony's efforts to release a mid-gen update for the PS5, however this rumor has it that it has accelerated their efforts instead. Information comes from the YouTube channel RedGamingTech and claims that Sony intends to release the PS5 Pro by the end of 2023 or 2024.
The rumor also claims that the update will offer 2,5x more ray tracing performance, making it more compatible with PS VR 2. While this aligns with Sony's PS5 VR plans, we would advise everyone to take this information with a spoon of salt until Sony will say otherwise.
