Painting VR releases April 14 for Meta Quest, PC VR
Painting VR is coming soon to Quest and PC VR and will be available on Oculus and Steam on April 14th.
The app simulates acrylic painting on canvas in virtual reality, allowing you to use different brushes and colors to faithfully recreate the real experience of painting in virtual reality. It takes a slightly more laid-back, playful approach to virtual reality painting compared to the recently released Vermillion, which is predominantly focused on being a realistic oil paint-on-wet simulation.
We first tried Painting VR almost exactly one year ago when it launched in Early Access for Quest via App Lab. We were very impressed with what we tried, and shortly after Oisoi developers announced the 2022 release on the official Quest store, work began on it.
This week, the studio announced that Painting VR will be launching for Quest and PC VR on April 14 via Steam, along with a new trailer showing off some fun new features.
Oisoi also ran a Kickstarter campaign at the end of last year that successfully raised €28 to reach the €764 goal. The goal of Kickstarter was to help add multiplayer features to the app and bring the title to PC VR. While the latter has apparently now become a reality, we have yet to hear anything about the former.
Oisoi said last year that the full 2022 release would include a multiplayer mode, but there's nothing in the trailer yet to indicate that. Besides multiplayer, you can spot some new features in the release date trailer above. There's a fun drill that you can attach some brushes to for spinning paint effects, and you can also catch a glimpse of what looks like a paint-by-numbers canvas. The total storage space also looks set to be greatly expanded, going from one single canvas area last year to an entire warehouse area with multiple artworks in the latest trailer.
Will you try Painting VR? Let us know about it in the comments.
