Resident Evil Village DLC: rumors, possible settings, characters

After the success of the Resident Evil Village DLC seems inevitable, but what will it entail? Let's see what we know about our next visit to the lycan-infested village.

This article will contain plot and final spoilers for Resident Evil Village, so if you haven't finished the main campaign, come back when you're done.

When will the DLC for Resident Evil Village be released?

The good news is that Capcom has confirmed that the Resident Evil Village DLC will release at E3 2021, though they haven't said when or what it will look like. The two main DLCs for Resident Evil 7 were released about a year after the main game's release.

Therefore, we expect the release of DLC for Resident Evil Village in the spring of 2022. World events in 2020 and 2021 may have slowed down production somewhat, so it's worth keeping that in mind. However, we may see the RE Village DLC for the first time this winter or early 2022.

What will the Resident Evil Village DLC look like?

There are several possibilities when considering what the DLC for Resident Evil Village will look like. For the most part, this has to do with the time period and settings. Any story DLC will most likely take place somewhere else, as the Village was destroyed during the game's ending. However, the Village itself was the star of the game in many ways, so the DLC could also serve as a prequel to the events of RE Village, or take place at the same time.

Resident Evil 7 had two main story DLCs. The first was a direct continuation of the game events, and the action of the second took place a little later. In the Not a Hero DLC, Chris Redfield saved Ethan and Mia then went after the villain Lucas Baker.

The End of Zoe DLC featured Joe Baker (Jack Baker's brother) returning to his family's home during a BSAA sweep. The molded zombies continue to attack despite Evalyn's death, so Joe embarks on a heroic mission to save his niece and escape what he believes is still the evil Umbrella Corporation.

Possible RE Village DLC story characters

Resident Evil Village can do something similar. There are a number of characters that future DLC story chapters may follow:

Chris Redfield

Chris is last seen escaping the exploding Village with his crew, along with Mia and Rose Winters. He also visibly mourns Ethan and regrets his part in the unfolding events. To make matters worse, his former employer, the BSAA, used bioweapons to fight Mother Miranda and her henchmen. Chris is not too happy about this.

The head of the DLC can continue Chris' adventure, see him take on the BSAA in Europe, and figure out what happened. It could make ends meet for Resident Evil 6, 7 and Village and even set the stage for RE9.

Rosa Winters

Capcom

After the credits in the Resident Evil Village video, a now grown-up Rose Winters visits her father's grave. Though we're not getting any actual confirmation that Ethan's body was ever recovered from the crater that was once the Village.

Paying her respects, Rose gets into the truck. It becomes clear that Rose is considered a bioweapon and is under surveillance by SWAT (and a sniper). She tells the agent that she can do things even Chris Redfield doesn't know about, implying that her powers are more powerful than they think.

They then drive off and seem to stop as a figure resembling Ethan approaches in the distance. It could be a Resident Evil 9 install or a possible story DLC. However, since this appears to be taking place years after Chris takes on the BSAA, we're guessing this hints at a sequel rather than future RE Village content. That is, unless Rose has aged as quickly as Evalyn. Eventually, Rose draws her powers from Evalyn's cast.

Mia Winters

Players have taken control of Mia for part of Resident Evil 7. The character is caged for most of RE Village, but developers can build a DLC chapter around her. We know from RE7 that Mia is formidable in combat and has military training. If she had escaped from the cell, she could have caused Miranda's mother all sorts of trouble.

This is just one opportunity for story content that will allow developers to reuse resources from the game and continue to place them in the Village. It can also offer some teasing stories and insight into the game's villain. This is especially true if Miranda is stalking an escaped Mia and taunting her before recapturing her.

Squad of hounds of wolves

If Capcom decides to take a proactive approach, then we can play Chris' team. The hounds and wolves squad hasn't been in the game for very long, but there's certainly room for the characters to expand even further. Each member made a strong impression and the banter between them was funny. This will also allow the developers to bring the DLC back to the Village.

BSAAs

The BSAA appears at the end of Resident Evil Village and starts shooting at Miranda's minions. But why are they there? And why is Chris and his team unhappy with their arrival and trying to avoid them? Especially if they're here to help? The DLC chapter can help explain these things in more detail.

The role of the BSAA in earlier games was to fight bioterror and Chris was one of the leading contributors. What happened after RE7 that made him miss them? Could the BSAA have very different, potentially lethal thoughts about how to deal with the Winters family? We also don't know if Chris' former STARS allies work for the BSAA. If so, then characters like Jill Valentine and Barry Burton could return in a BSAA-themed DLC chapter.

Lady Dimitrescu

Capcom

Lady Dee was the main star of Resident Evil Village. Capcom was surprised by her popularity during the first trailers. After that, they focused most of their marketing on her. Some fans were disappointed that Lady D was killed so early in the game's story.

Despite the obvious reason for her fascination with the Internet, having her stalking her around the castle was one of RE Village's most memorable gameplay experiences. Then it won't be a surprise if Capcom brings her back for DLC.

Ada Wong, Elena and others

Some of the early Resident Evil concept art saw a generic Ada Wong dressed as a plague doctor, suggesting that she was originally meant to be in the game. DLC can focus on this by reusing those resources and giving Ada a mission during game events. Resident Evil 2, 4, and 6 all saw Ada doing her own stuff in the background, although those games had her interacting with the main characters from time to time.

Another DLC idea is the origins of mold in the Village. Elena seems like an obvious candidate for this. In the DLC, Elena can be seen going about her daily village life when lycans and zombies start appearing and killing her neighbors. If Capcom decides to make action-packed DLC, this one could be more geared towards horror survival.

Capcom

The Resident Evil Village DLC may require a more proactive approach, as it did in 7.

Capcom confirms RE DLC will be free

Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Village will receive free DLC while discussing the company's plans for the future. Capcom CEO Yoichi Egawa said in a report:

“We will force our customer management to understand gaming trends and user preferences, and build a business model for online operations. Considering the situation with our free add-on DLC for games like Monster Hunter Rise and Resident Evil Village.”

This will be good news for Resident Evil Village fans. Those who played Resident Evil 7 will remember that the game's first major DLC pack, Not a Hero, was also free. It featured the final confrontation between Chris Redfield and Lucas Baker and took a much heavier approach than Ethan's adventure.

RE7's second "End of Zoe" DLC, however, was received for a small fee, so it remains to be seen if any of the future RE Village DLCs, after the free one, will end up having a premium. However, fans looking to get more of RE Village can look forward to not having to spend money the next time they enter the Horror Village.
