Respawn Entertainment reveals plan to add new weapons to Apex Legends
Respawn Entertainment shared their philosophy for adding new weapons to Apex Legends in the future and how they will address the loot pool issues.
Season 11 of Apex Legends launches on November 2, and a slew of new changes will debut with it. Chief among these additions to the game are the addition of a new legends ash, and the versatile CAR SMG anti-personnel submachine gun, popular with Titan pilots around the world.
During the press conference for the upcoming season, Respawn stated that they are focusing on filling the gaps that exist in the current weapon pool while keeping a strict eye on the number of weapons players can find on the map.
Apex Legends developers on the future of new weapons
The CAR SMG can use both light and heavy ammo, which is a unique feature of the weapon.
In a battle royale like Apex Legends, it's all about balancing each level of the game and controlling the user experience.
The studio hopes to keep the number of items that appear on the map limited while still offering fresh and dynamic ways to enjoy each round: “When it comes to weapons, we are very knowledgeable about managing the loot pool. So we will continue to release new weapons only when we feel they are ready to play.”
The debut of Ash and the new submachine gun combined the arrival of a new map, Storm Point, which could have made the start of Season 11 incredibly chaotic if left unchecked.
This philosophy aligns with the release of other weapons such as the Rampage LMG and its signature Revved Up feature that were recently added to the game. By adding new weapons only when they can be combined with new mechanics or meet needs that are not fulfilled in the game, Respawn can carefully manage every piece of the combat puzzle.
“Overall we want to make sure we have a strong design space and a good reason whenever we add something new to Apex and we will continue to do so in future seasons.”
By constantly monitoring the number of weapons and experimenting with new attachments, such as the upcoming Dual Shell hop-up, Apex Legends will feel fresh for all players for years to come.
