Riot Games Started Work on the League of Legends Cinematic Universe

League of Legends

Riot Games has begun work on the League of Legends "cinematic universe" with plans to bring its world-famous MOBA game to the world of film and TV in the same vein as Marvel's plan to create a movie franchise.

Buckle up Summoners: LoL is heading to Hollywood.

According to several Riot Games job listings, published earlier this month, the developers of League of Legends are finally hoping to hit the big screen.

Riot is looking for two key roles to kick-start its "cinematic universe." The first of these is the Global Head of Live Movies — think Marvel's Kevin Feige — as well as the Global Head of Live TV. These roles will exist alongside the animation department, which is already developing the upcoming TV series " Arcane ».

Both roles will be filmed at Riot's main studios in Los Angeles.

The list continues:

“As the gaming landscape continues to clash with entertainment, we are building a new team to bring the world of Riot to players around the world in a new way and reach new audiences. This team will be committed to showing players and the world that entertainment now starts with games.”

Once these two vacancies are filled, Riot is reportedly planning to begin work on "a script for the League of Legends cinematic universe and new franchises."

Riot Games' expansion beyond its ten-year League of Legends title has been explosive since the studio celebrated its anniversary at the end of 2019.

The developers have released their first first-person shooter — Valorant  - Just last year and there are a number of games planned on the horizon as well.

These include new fighting game and single player game Ruined King , Project F adventure game, Conv/rgence: A League of Legends Story, Tellstones tabletop release, and already confirmed MMORPG .

The TFT clone of the auto butler was also a wild success.

However, every LoL fan has been waiting for one; a new "cinematic universe" set in the magical, adventurous world of Runeterra.

We've reached out to several Riot sources, but there are few details about the planned projects yet.

It's likely that the new Riot team on the silver screen will follow the plan outlined by Marvel given their success.

As soon as we have any possible release dates for a film, program or series, we will definitely let you know.

While any cinematic release is still a long way off, "Arcane" is just around the corner - Riot hasn't set an announcement date yet, but it's slated to release this year.

Set in the past, the game will retell the origin stories of several League of Legends characters from Piltover and Zaun. These include popular bot laners like Caitlyn and Jinx, as well as junglers Vee and Warwick. Sisters Jinx and V are ready to shoot. Ekko, Ziggs and Heimerdinger may also appear in the series.

It is not yet clear if Arcane storylines will be the first official release in the planned LoL cinematic universe. or instead we will see our own separate narrative.
