Overwatch 2 Beta Rumors Caused By Battle.net Game Files
Blizzard hasn't said a word about Overwatch 2 since its big debut at BlizzCon 2019, but a new update to the Battle.net launcher could be a sign that that what- that that's about to happen.
The upcoming sequel seems to have been a dream come true for many Overwatch fans at the time, with no word or news from the developers, and nothing more than a brief preview from last year to give us any indication that it even exists. .
Even though Jeff has gone into full lockdown mode, one clue about what's still going on behind the scenes has surfaced in the Battle.net launcher.
Unfortunately, these aren't new hero models or anything juicier. Instead, it's just the name of some CDN files that read "prov2", a designation we haven't seen before that people think is related to Overwatch 2. CDN stands for "Content Distribution Network", and they're used by publishers for pre-distribution game data so that players can quickly download patches and updates from the nearest available server.
"prov2" is supposed to have something to do with Overwatch 2.
Some enthusiastic Overwatch fans have already speculated that this could be a sign that playtesting has already begun and that some kind of beta testing could be next.
Of course, Blizzard hasn't indicated in any way that an Overwatch 2 beta is coming soon, or that we'll even get it before full release. So it's probably best to take any speculation about it with a grain of salt.
Others have suggested that this CDN update could mean that Blizzard is now shipping a version of the game to begin the localization process, and may be sending out parts for voice-overs in several different languages.
