Five Nights at Freddy's Creator Retires: Internet Threats Cause
Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon told fans via his website that the developer is retiring. The father of the popular horror series said his decision was largely political.
The artist and his family received threats from people who did not like his allegedly homophobic views, for which they voted. The developer's wife, six months pregnant, had to stay awake for fear that threats from the Internet would be reflected in reality. Cawthon, not intending to apologize for his views or change them, decided that making games was not worth it.
However, this is not the only reason, as Cawthon announced that it takes him too long to produce more FNAF hits. The creator would like to spend free time on things that occupied him before the success of the game, as well as on his family, including six children (he compared the size of the youngest to blueberries).
Does this mean the end of Five Nights at Freddy's? Well, the goose that lays the golden eggs is not butchered. Cawthon announced that the series would be continued by someone else - someone he appointed and trusted. Therefore, fans of the game can relax and wait for the corresponding message.
It was to them that Coughton addressed the words of the letter posted on his website. The creator thanked them for their seven years of support, assuring that he had a successful career and felt satisfied. No wonder, because the FNAF series has a huge fan base, and the next installment of the game - subtitled "Security Breach" - is due out on PC, PS4, and PS5 in the second half of this year.
