Game world

For Below Zero, a huge open world is announced, not inferior in area and elaboration to the original. The early access version of the game had only a few locations that could be explored in a couple of hours. Content - living creatures, resources and dangers - was also lacking. All this will appear closer to the release.

The developers plan to make available for study not only the underwater component, but also the surface - players will be able to move over moving ice floes using a hoverbike, climb snow-capped peaks and break through ice hummocks in search of the unknown.

At the same time, the concept of the underwater part, as a hodgepodge of unusual in shape and content pieces of the seabed, with ledges, ledges and caves scattered at different depths, with its own species of fish and simulation of life, has not changed.

An original binomial is being made for Below Zero, with many new lifeforms rendered even more colorfully due to their adaptation to icy water. Among the first are the giant predatory fish Titan, the aggressive Squid-Shark, as well as the nimble and unusual Penguins.

Plot and main character

A year has passed since the Subnautica protagonist left planet 4546B. The mega-corporation "Alterra" found out about his misadventures and sent the Vesper space research station, which should investigate the structures of an alien civilization under the pretext of resource exploration, environmental research.

To this end, a large base was built in the Arctic zone of the planet with various equipment that the player will not need.

The main character is a black xenozoologist Robin Goodall, who went with a research group directly to the planet, arguing with her sister Sam, who remained on the space station. This whole situation worries her, but one of the employees suddenly disappears at the station.

Robin goes to see if he left to explore the space station alone, and when he returns, the base is blown away by a huge avalanche. Now Robin is definitely alone in this world and, despite the possibility of evacuation, she remains in order to find out what happened that day.

By the release of the final version, the developers promise to add a thoughtful and lengthy plot, with several plot twists. There will be more of it, the developers do not leave the player alone with himself, as in Subnautica. The role of the host is played by Sam, who reports all the necessary information on the radio.

The early access version contained only the prologue and the first chapter.

Single player and gameplay innovations

The gameplay has become more difficult - most of the ocean is covered with a thick layer of ice, so there is not enough air and light all the time. To help with the former, the developers have added a new fish and plant that produce oxygen from the water. To make the world brighter, the local fauna fluoresces more and brighter.

At the same time, the main logic of the game has not changed - we examine everything with a universal scanner, collect resources, produce from them everything that is needed on one universal machine, put the unnecessary in a box. The main instruments (scanner, fins, glider) have been moved, but they promise to add something new to them.

• A full-fledged training appeared - if Subnautica simply threw the player into the ocean, then Below Zero explains in stages how to hunt and collect resources, where to quench thirst and hunger, how to restore health.
• Even more content is created by procedural algorithms, so the game world changes more over time, is supplemented, becomes more complicated, and blueprints and resources are scattered around the district, and do not lie in one place.
• The game immediately offers four modes of passage: "creative", "easy", "survival" and "hardcore" (only 1 life and 1 save per game), which received new features and chips.
