Super Smash Bros Ultimate Gets VR (Virtual Reality) Support
Nintendo has just added VR support to another of their Switch games, Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Yes indeed. Update 3.1.0 for the game includes limited support for the Switch Labo VR headset. You won't be playing as a first-person fighter, but you'll be watching and playing from the side as if you were actually there.
When using Labo, you can either fight one computer player or watch four other players fight. Unfortunately, there is no support for big battles or online play.
You can choose from "dozens" of game stages. You can look around and see areas of each scene that you wouldn't see on a traditional display, which is pretty cool. Technically, this also marks the debut of virtual reality for a host of gaming franchises; The chance to see Solid Snake, Mega Man, Sonic and more in VR is tempting, isn't it?
Labo VR is a novelty designed mainly for children. But the Switch's 720p display and limited power keep it from actually bringing a lot of content to life. We've played Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on a headset, for example, and neither of them held up to censorship. However, it's better than nothing. Nintendo seems quite poised to bring VR support to its biggest games, which makes us think it won't be the last we hear from a headset.
