Thanos May Return to Fortnite with Avengers: Endgame

Thanos

Marvel villain Thanos may soon return to Fortnite Battle Royale, just in time for the release of Avengers: Endgame, as evidenced by new game data obtained from the v8.30 update.

The April 10th Fortnite update wasn't well received by players as many of the issues they hoped to fix weren't fixed, but it was another opportunity for data miners to see what could be found in the game's files.

As with every subsequent Fortnite update, users are looking for clues about upcoming content, game modes, cosmetic items, and more - and one of them seems to have stumbled upon the return of Thanos.

After the release of Infinity War in April 2018, Fortnite developer Epic Games partnered with the Russo brothers to bring the main villain, Thanos, right into the game.

Given his own separate mode, Thanos could be "played" by one player on the map simply by finding his Infinity Gauntlet. However, this mode was only available for a limited time and has not been seen or heard from since. With the next and final entry in the current Avengers story coming soon, Fortnite fans have speculated that the villain might be back, and a line of code from the game files after the v8.30 update could actually be confirmation that Thanos is indeed returning to the battle royale game.

The game file is a new "Death Serve" message that is used on screen when a player is killed. For example, another message includes "knocked down" or "knocked himself out".

The message "Surrender to the power of Thanos" is supposed to be a message about death at his hands, and is spoken when Thanos takes the player, and this is intriguing!

Avengers End Game will hit theaters on April 26, exactly one year after the release of Infinity War. Of course, this is just a game file and could be purely random, but the timing is too perfect not to be speculated.

It's true that Fortnite has received negative feedback on other items that are being introduced to the game (namely with Infinity Blade), but as long as Thanos is placed in a separate LTM (limited time mode), fans will surely love to bring it back - perhaps this time with a hero or two...
