Team Liquid Announces Departure of Dota 2 Roster Players

Team Liquid has confirmed the departure of their DOTA 2 team amid post-match 2019 roster changes.

At The International 2019, TeamLiquid finished as runners-up, losing 3-1 to winners OG in the best of five grand finals.

However, with the yearly post-championship shuffle, the team that triumphed at The International 2017 have now confirmed that they will be leaving the iconic North American organization and starting something of their own.

Of course, it comes as a shock when teams prepare for the new Dota Pro Circuit season with roster changes - and some teams leave the scene entirely.

Team Liquid's roster of iconic Kuro captain Salehi Takhasomi, Maroon GH Merhei, Ivan 'MinD_ContRoL' Borislavov, Amer 'Miracle' al-Barkawi and rookie Aliwi 'w33' Omar will be split to form a new team of their own - as confirmed in a Twitter video from Kuroka himself.

Of course, this will be seen as a huge shift for the entire scene to not have Team Liquid in their usual form competing at the highest level across all events. However, this was not a huge surprise to the organization itself - who had been informed of the departure in advance.

"When Kuroki told me about his plans after TI9, I couldn't help but think about my own journey from professional player to team owner," Victor Nazgul Goossens said. ""After four years in the TeamLiquid organization, our Dota team decided to pursue a new dream: to create their own team."

Liquid said they hope to assemble a new MOBA team from Valve and start looking for players who will "continue the legacy of the past roster."

The organization first assembled a Dota 2 roster in December 2012. The team won The International 2017, China Dota2 Supermajor, two tournaments from the EPICENTER series in 2016 and 2017, as well as SL i-League StarSeries Season 3. In the 2018/2019 season, Liquid won MDL Macau 2019 and placed second at MDL Disneyland® Paris Major and EPICENTER Major 2019.
