Teamfight Tactics Set 3 To Upgrade Elemental Hexes With The Galaxies System
Teamfight Tactics Set 3 is designed to bring an assortment of space units to autobattler inspired by League of Legends , as well as an updated "Galaxies" similar system - similar to "Elemental Hexes" - giving each game "increased variance".
Rise of the Elements is a working story title for Teamfight Tactics that we've been enjoying for the past few months, but players will soon be sent into space with the upcoming Galaxies set.
Riot aim to improve on the dynamic gameplay they brought with the Elemental Hex system in Set 2, as well as making each game easier to understand and more addictive.
Somewhere in a galaxy far, far away...
TFT will be headlined by the new Galaxies system, which will change the battlefield for every game. It won't be like Elemental Hexes, which made very minor changes to the board itself, but rather impact broader aspects of the game.
Riot hasn't shed light on all the Galaxies coming to TFT, though they did give players a look at a few working prototypes in developer post on February 19 .
"One galaxy you can travel to is the galaxy Neekoverse, where everyone starts with two ready-to-use help items neekosaid Stephen Mortdog Mortimer, Lead Gameplay Designer for TFT.
"Since everyone has this advantage, it's about making strategic decisions about when and how to use these Neekos».
The assumption that everyone gets the same "advantage" - not just change or variance - seems to be a key tenet for the new Galaxies for TFT.
Another possible galaxy aimed at hitting TFT is the "4-level carousel" galaxy, which gives players access to a lot of 4-cost units at once. Without knowing which galaxy you're loading into, it forces players to immediately adapt and develop new strategies on the fly.
Trekking through the universe
Unlike Elemental Hexes, the game will always be updated with new Galaxies as recruitment continues. The idea of "expandability" was very appealing to the developers of Teamfight Tactics, who noted that the rigidity of Elemental Hexes made the game obsolete towards the end of the set.
"Elementary hexes are great, but we were disappointed that we couldn't add additional hexes during the set," said Mort.
"At launch, it's very likely that you'll have a normal game as there will only be one or two Galaxies active, but by the end of the set there could be as many as 10 different Galaxies and some may be gone."
The goal of all these reworks is to make Teamfight Tactics more of a strategy game, where each round is a little different from the last.
“If we see how different games play out differently in different galaxies, then it will be a success,” Mort said.
TFT: Galaxies will be released in March, although the exact date has yet to be confirmed. The new set will include units from the Pulsefire, Odyssey, Star Guardian and Project skins, as teased back in January .
