Far Cry 2 Villain Fan Theory Confirmed by Ubisoft Creative Director
Fans have assumed that Jack Carver and the Jackal from Far Cry 2 are the same person. Now we know for sure.
Ubisoft has just confirmed a long-standing fan theory about the Jackal, the alleged villain from Far Cry 2. The theory is that the Jackal and Jack Carver, the protagonist of the original Far Cry, are one and the same. Now we know for sure that this is exactly the case, thanks to the creative director of Far Cry 2.
"The Jackal is actually Jack Carver from the original Far Cry," said Clint Hawking, creative director of Far Cry 2. in an interview with IGN for his new Insider Stories series.
“Jack Carver in the original Far Cry was a cunning rogue, smuggler and arms dealer. The idea was that [Jackal] is him, but 10 years later or so, after he saw everything that is possible on this island [during the events of Far Cry]. Maybe it was drug induced, maybe it's PTSD, or maybe it's the real Jack. But the idea is that ten years later he upped his game with smuggling and got caught up in this conflict.”
Even without Hawking's confirmation, there was plenty of evidence that Carver would later become the Jackal. Firstly, at the end of Far Cry Instincts, Carver takes a box full of conflict diamonds, which turn out to be the main plot in Far Cry 2. And secondly, there are a bunch of texture files in Car Cry 2 that are labeled "jackcarver" even though Jack never mentioned in the game. Fans have been putting two and two together for a long time, but now we know for sure.
IGN has a bunch of other highlights in their new video, so take a look if you want to learn more about Far Cry villain history.
In other Far Cry news, Far Cry 6 will be released on Xbox Series X | S and PS5. The game will run without ray tracing, so Ubisoft can focus on other features that are more important to the game and work across all platforms. Ray tracing will be available on PC, and for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S it will appear later.
