A guide for new and returning players on the basics of the new update 1.4 (Journey's End).

Characters and world changes

Worlds (biomes) and characters played in 1.4 cannot go back to previous patches.

Players

npc
  • ♦Character creation is now improved.
  • ♦Characters can be created as Travel Mode Characters to provide access to Travel Mode.
  • ♦ Travel Mode characters can only play in Travel Mode worlds and therefore only with other Travel Mode characters.
  • ♦Research is saved for Journey mode characters.
  • ♦ New character vault: Void Vault (and Void Bag, which collects items when you're full and works like Money Trough).

Worlds

npc
  • ♦Bestairy Entries are linked to your world like banners.
  • ♦ You can create worlds in travel mode (more on this below).
  • ♦It is possible to create worlds in Master Mode (more on this in its own section. But it's basically like Expert, but harder).
  • ♦ Travel Mode worlds can only be entered by Travel Mode characters.
  • ♦ New updated world generation.
  • ♦Seeds can be entered by default (previously had to bypass).
  • ♦Corruption can obviously be selected from the start without going into hardmode at least once.

Features of the new world

  • ♦Weather: thunderstorm, windy day.
  • ♦New Oasis Biome.
  • ♦Cemetery biome.
  • ♦Improved desert biome (again).
  • ♦Improved ocean biome.
  • ♦Improved mushroom biome.

TModLoader support

DLC for playing with TModLoader will be added and its support will be improved.

It's always been free, but now it's more "accepted" and implemented into the game, if you will. Since the launch of the game, the Terraria Modding community has been active, so it makes sense.

Please note that all mods are unofficial and may cause problems with the game. So use at your own risk (and seriously, back up your game files)

Texture Pack Support

Implemented to allow people to change things around. I assume it will be more widely available thanks to organized support

Steam Workshop

Workshop will be added in the future for uploading mods that people make. To make it easier for people to share and download.

Not sure if the Modded world and characters will be separated from the regular worlds and characters.

Master Mode

New hard mode:

  • ♦The only thing we know for sure right now is that enemies have higher health (3x normal) and deal more damage than expert.
  • ♦According to the Travel Mode slider, Expert has 2x and Master has 3x.
  • ♦He has a higher enemy spawn rate.
  • ♦Each boss in master mode has 2 unique drops, but it is not a weapon or trinket. Looks like a calm trophy and pet.
  • ♦CreativeName: Assumes you get an extra accessory slot while playing Master World. Not sure if you'll get another one from Wall of Flesh.
  • ♦It is assumed that the probability of falling out is increased compared to the expert.

What's the point?

This mode is a real challenge for the most experienced and brave players. Terraria. Any mistake made is punishable. Only a true Master of the game will be able to reach the final.

Travel Mode

Not creative mode

People were expecting a normal, boring creative mode, but as developers, they made it more of a collective celebration, which I approve of.

How to play?

Requires a character created for Journey (meaning characters in Journey will only be able to play with other characters in Journey).

Requires a world created with Journey Mode.

Each character in Journey Mode starts with a set of starting items:

  • ♦Iron short sword
  • ♦Iron Axe, Iron Pickaxe, Iron Hammer
  • ♦Finch Staff (summon weapon)
  • ♦100 torches
  • ♦100 Ropes
  • ♦Magic Mirror (teleports you back to spawn point)
  • ♦Starter wings (very limited flight, removes fall damage)

Administrator Options

Once the menu opens, select Benny the Construction Bunny.

Here you can edit things that don't exist in the regular world, as described below.

Качество жизни

  • ♦Increased placement range, like an accessory (up to 10x).
  • ♦You can change the time, freeze the time, increase the speed and some others.
  • ♦Change in weather conditions: how the weather is now and how intense it is.
  • ♦Disable the spread of infection
  • ♦Activate Godmode where you can't die

precipitation

Research and duplication

Elements of the game can be explored, giving you the ability to duplicate them. This can be done with torches, iron swords, slime staves, etc.

In the information we have received so far, resources like Wood and utilities like Torches require around 100 to fully research. However, weapons and armor and the like require only one research.

However, researching items destroys them, so you don't go crazy.

After researching, you can simply select the desired item from the menu and create X number of them.

Difficulty sliders

With these sliders, you can change the difficulty of the enemies in the world.

There is one slider that changes monster stats and drop rate to different difficulty levels. Journey mode starts at half the difficulty of normal mode (0,5), but can be increased depending on your preference.

For all rules and purposes, the world now acts like a world on this difficulty - meaning expert mode items can drop when you pass your slider to expert or higher, etc.

Another slider changes the spawn rate from zero to a lot.

Apparently this slider works locally and not globally. So one person can sit alone at the base with a spawner while another is out of sight for the Paladin Shield in the Dungeon.

What's the point?

The point is to get items so you can research them and have endless supplies. And give you the ability to do whatever you want in your world.

So it would be ideal to create an adventure map, a golf course, a fishing world, start a grand construction project, play more friendly with friends and so on.

Because Travel Characters and Worlds are inaccessible to other characters, this cannot be done to bypass the game itself.

Bestairy - Terraria Encyclopedia of Living Creatures

Bestairy or monster encyclopedia is a list of all living creatures you have encountered in the game, with lists and sorting features.

Bestair is tied to your world, and killing enemies unlocks more information about the monster.

For NPCs, you only need to talk to them.

  • ♦First, it's just a book entry with flavor text and special conditions to find them/biome
  • ♦Next you get the actual stats like HP and gold drop
  • ♦After that you will see what items he can drop
  • ♦And finally, the actual drop rate of this item.

So what's the point?

Most of this monster information can be found on any of the Terraria wikis. However, there is a new NPC that has an evolving inventory of items to sell based on your progress in the bestair.

It's not clear if this is based on individual entries or related to overall progress.

Pylons, city building and NPC happiness levels

NPC happiness level - treat them properly

The NPC happiness system is introduced into the game.
What affects the level of happiness?

  • ♦NPCs become happier when the player is in their favorite biome
  • ♦NPCs become happier when they like their neighbors
  • ♦NPCs become happier when the camp is not crowded with other NPCs

Adding good furniture and decorations does not affect the happiness level of an NPC.

What happens if the NPC is happy/unhappy?

  • ♦NPC prices will be adjusted depending on the level of happiness
  • ♦If the NPC reaches a high enough happiness level, the Pylon can be accessed

How to find out the level of happiness of an NPC?

  • ♦With a new option in the dialog box
  • ♦With the help of the dialogs themselves (example below)

Now roads are not needed, because there are Pylons!

As mentioned above, NPCs with a high level of happiness will give you the opportunity to gain access to the Pylons. What is it and why should players care? If there are a certain number of happy NPCs in a biome, then Pylon is unlocked in that biome. It will allow you to instantly teleport between other Pylons. This makes it possible to create a whole network of points to which you can instantly teleport, which means that there will be no need for long hikes between different Pylons.

Pylons Operation Manual

You can only place one Pylon per biome type. So, for example, you cannot place two Ocean Pylons.
The pylons must be placed on a flat surface. Otherwise, they will not work.
There must be at least two living NPCs near the Pylon.
Pylons cannot be used during boss fights or invasion events.

What biomes have pylons?

  • Purgatory
  • Jungle
  • Desert biome
  • Snow biome
  • Ocean
  • Cavity
  • Sanctuary

New NPCs and how to get them

Adding this to spoilers because I'm assuming no one wants to be spoiled.

Five new NPCs:

  • ♦Cat, dog and rabbit: apparently bought from a zoologist.
  • ♦Golfer: "Working on his game of trap."
  • ♦Zoologist: I have no idea (we assume it will be unlocked by adding X new monsters to the Bestiary).

Other new features and/or changes

Block replacement

You can replace blocks, background walls and chests and the like.

The old item will be added to your inventory, the new item will replace it.

It uses the same characteristics as normal mining, so it cannot be abused as far as we know.

Attribute

Throw Damage removed. Throwing Damage damage now appears to deal damage from a distance instead.

Well, this class discussion is over.

Lake and sea fishing

stowage box for hard mod.

All fishing boxes are currently available in pre-flesh wall and post-flesh wall options. The Pre-Wall of Flesh variants do not contain hard mode ores.

Shark Thief Nerf.

Mining power reduced from 100 to 59 (Demonite, Crimtan) and reduced drop rate.

  • ♦Ice, oasis, lava and ocean fishing crates added
  • ♦Oasis fishing now has its own rewards, including quest rewards.
  • ♦Improved fishing in lava, including an accessory that allows you to catch any fishing rod in lava.
  • ♦Fishing during the Blood Moon
  • ♦Balanced and changed loot from fishing crates.

Shark Ravager - was in Terraria so useless that it has become the subject of memes. Developers have increased its capabilities. Now the Shark is able to extract anything. Up to Demonite/Crimtan.

Fishing in Pre-Hardmode allowed you to skip Hardmode. It was a fun alternative route, but it ended. Crates can still fish various ores, but now only Pre-Hardmode ores can be fished in Pre-Hardmode.

New bosses and enemies

Two new optional hard mode bosses.

Two new mini-bosses: Dreadnautilus (from blood moon fishing) and new variants of existing enemies, as well as some brand new enemies, some related to blood moon fishing and the mushroom biome.

New goods and equipment

About 800 new items...

New weapon class - Whip

The whip deals direct weapon damage, perfect for your cool playthroughs.

Guide to Communicating with Critters

An item that prevents you from taking damage kills critters. Perfect for when you want to catch something special, if you have conflicting feelings about bunnies exploding in a bloody mess, or if you let your kids play.

Lawn Mower

Stop spawning aesthetic grass. Also important for golf.

Kites

New item type. It seems to be just for fun, like fireworks or bubble machines. This is affected by the new wind system.

collects more golden critters (5) to collect and also reduces the spawn rate of golden critters. More pictures (). any particular biome.

new vanity

A public competition was held, people voted and the winners were chosen. Mine didn't win, but I really like the 5 that will be added to the game. Will post pictures as soon as they get official art.

  • ♦Plague Hunter Robes by SodaHunter
  • ♦Wandering Ronin by Crowflux
  • ♦Eternal Traveler DisRicardo
  • ♦Flower Protector by yikescloud
  • ♦Capricorn by R-MK

Other things.

The Magic Mirror and other return items now return you to the last pylon you used instead of your spawn. Hitting trees sometimes drops food.

Precious trees can be planted underground by combining an acorn with gems and farms! Increased stack size for many items. Strange Plants will now spawn in hard mode.

The Chest now has a Desert Chest. Place enough tombstones in an area and it will turn into a graveyard biome with new enemies and items for NPCs to sell.

Balancing

The monster and items have also been updated to better match the balance of things.

Object interaction

Now there is a system of winds, and more and more objects will react to each other. Walking on the grass will make it sway. The wind will cause flags and lanterns to sway, and so on.

Improved sprite handling and animation

The game has been out of the game for a long time and the items and enemies added in 1.3 had a different style than the enemies from the beginning of the game. So it only makes sense to update a lot of the visuals in the game to make it more consistent.

Also the background of the biome, this will make a difference. And customization of the user interface.

Life hacks

New things that are possible thanks to the update:

  • ♦ You can swap chests without emptying them first thanks to the Swap block.
  • ♦No need to change the internal clock: after the end of the Frost Moon, the coming day will spawn all seasonal Christmas content. Completing the Harvest Moon will spawn the coming day across all Halloween seasonal content.
  • ♦Fixed Fisher's quest rewards: Information items needed for PDAs have an increased drop rate and won't be rewarded if you carry them, avoiding duplication.
  • ♦Entering the NPC's Bestiary shows which biome they prefer.
  • ♦You need 3 NPCs to buy a pylon, but only 2 living next to it for it to work.
  • ♦Scarab bombs are great for making straight holes like a hellevator.
  • ♦In Journey mode, you can duplicate items and sell them to earn money, but can you duplicate coins?
  • ♦Can monster statues be used to gain a lot of progress in Beastairy and therefore reap the benefits?
  • ♦ Can a locked golf ball chamber be used to safely scout ahead?
  • ♦Can you earn achievements in travel mode? Makes it easier to achieve the fishing quest.

Playing golf

Golf will be a new activity added to the game.

But, judging by the information we received, this is just a diversion. Fun and creative, but nothing changes the game. But I've made this section, so I can be done with it.

What is golf?

Try to hit the golf cup in as few strokes as possible. The average score is “nominal”, a hit is good. More shots before hitting the hole is bad.

A golf whistle that returns the ball to you counts as a penalty at your expense.

Basics on subjects

There are four types of clubs that interact differently: Driver, Iron, Wedge and Putter.

The biggest difference between clubs is in strength and trajectory, but the implication is that some clubs are better on different terrain (as in real life).

There are different skins for clubs, but from what I understand, they are all the same statistically, just visual.

NetherHunter122 Different clubs are better for different types of grass, such as bunker (sand hole), green (where the hole is), fairway (normal golf grass), and rough (grass that you can't get that far from).

The ball interacts differently depending on which terrain it is hit over or hit. The camera will follow the ball after shooting. There are different skins for balls. But they also seem to be the same. Golf Ball Skins change appearance when worn in an accessory slot or inventory.

  • ♦Golf Tee - the starting point, the ball moves on.
  • ♦Golf Cup - The end point of the course, gives you your score.
  • ♦Golf Whistle - Remove the ball or try again.

Other things

The new NPC Golfer offers you all the items related to golf.

What's the point?

Seems like nothing But great fun for creative people, just watch the video below.

There will also be downloaded three maps made entirely as 9-hole golf courses.
