The Elder Scrolls: Blades Game Guide

The Elder Scrolls Blades

Here are some tips to help you play Elder Scrolls: Blades!

In our guide to Elder Scrolls: Blades you will find a lot of information to help you in the early days of this new game! As you begin to rebuild your city, you will no doubt have questions that could be answered. We hope these tips help answer some of them.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades is a pretty interesting RPG game where you loot dungeons, complete quests and rebuild the city. It gets pretty detailed, so it's important to know what's going on early in the game before diving into it.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades General Tips

  • The help menu you can find in the main menu is quite helpful for some things that aren't directly explained. Hit the? icon to learn more about various things.
  • Don't buy too many armors and weapons early on. You will most likely start exchanging pieces at the beginner level, it is better to save your resources for future things.
  • Be sure to repair your armor and weapons! Your items get damaged when you use them in dungeons, so be sure to fix them before you go hunting again.
  • Check your assignments every hour or so and see what you can accomplish. This is an easy way to make some gold on the side, it's usually things like dealing damage and doing combos.
  • Leveling up your city is very important. The fastest way to do this is to build buildings such as a forge, an alchemist, a sorcerer, and so on. You can build two of them, but I would start with two blacksmiths because they give you a lot of experience in your city. Don't start building houses, dwellings, and outbuildings until you run out of other jobs (at least one of the main crafting buildings).
  • Build your main crafting areas closer to where you spawned in the starting part of your city.
  • When you open a wooden chest, be careful how fast you press the open button. It only takes 5 seconds, but you can spend 1 gem to open it for some reason. If you click too fast, you might accidentally burn a gem on it.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades Combat Tips

  • When you hold an attack, release or swipe only when the circle is full to receive a critical hit.
  • Use your shield! To block an incoming attack, press and hold the shield icon and then deflect your own attack. Your enemy will occasionally stagger when they collide with your shield.
  • Wait until your enemy attacks before raising your shield. For a short period of time, you will “block high damage”, and after a while, by holding your shield up, the level of damage that can be repaid drops and becomes lower. High blocking protects you better and you have a chance to hit the enemy.
  • You can also block with your weapon if you don't have a shield. Each weapon has a block rating, and heavier weapons (two-handed) have the highest rating, making them the best for blocking attacks. Weapons use the same "block high" mechanic as shields.
  • Don't attack if your enemy is holding his shield. You can be hit just like your enemy. Wait a bit if they keep holding their shield for you to hit them when they block low.
  • Higher level enemies will deal damage through your block, so be careful when blocking too much against stronger opponents!
  • If you are fighting an animal, you can only hit it when it charges. Otherwise, they are too far away if you are using a melee weapon.
  • Spells are really good for killing animals as they can hit even further.
  • Combinations can be performed by swinging the weapon from one side and then making the next strike from the other side. You can repeat this to continue the combo.
  • You can hold and swipe left, then hold and swipe right and repeat, or you can press hold on one side, then press hold on the other side and repeat.
  • Some enemies are resistant or weak to certain physical and magical types. So if you're fighting tougher enemies, be sure to switch to the right tool or spell for the job.
  • Daggers deal slashing damage, Axes deal piercing damage, and Hammers and Maces also deal piercing damage.
  • Consider getting the Absorb spell even if your character isn't magic focused. You can use this to heal yourself without spending an item.
  • Adrenaline Dodge is another very solid ability that you get a little further in the game that will heal you when you use it.
  • Don't use your healing potions unless absolutely necessary. There is usually food around that can heal you in most dungeons. Save them for very difficult quests and deeper parts of the Abyss. You can make healing potions at the Alchemy Lab as soon as you have them in your city, though the ingredients are pretty hard to come by.

loot

  • Don't immediately eat everything you find. Food heals you, but if you're almost healthy, it's just a waste of time. Leave it alone and come back if you need some health.

  • Explore the dungeon looking for anything that flashes. Pick anything that especially includes any rare ingredients.

  • You can actively avoid fights if you move around the enemy and don't get too close. This can be useful if you are low on health.

  • Once you've completed a dungeon/quest, be sure to research it before you complete it. There is usually more to see and some items around the corner that you may have missed.

  • Watch out for secret areas. At the beginning, you come to a closed hut. You can click on the nearest totem (it's a pillar in the ground with a skull on it) and it will open the door to the hut. If you go inside, you can find yourself a chest!

CHEST TIPS

  • DO NOT start opening a chest that will take several hours to open while you are actively playing the game. You can only open one chest at a time and you will most likely get chests that can be opened almost instantly if you are actively playing. Open them during the game, and once you're done, you should queue up one of the longer opening chests.
  • If you're hitting the chest a lot, it's relatively cheap to upgrade your ability with gems. It only costs 10 gems for +10 extra slots and it's probably worth it. You don't need to spend money on the game to get gems.
  • Silver chests are a bit of a problem in this game. They take a long time to open, so you're actually better off stuffing your chests with a bunch of wood, some silver, and then some gold if you can find them. You can then do the work, and when you find a wooden chest in the wild, you must open one of the ones you have in your inventory and then take it. Once you get to the end of the job, you can refuse the silver chest that was awarded to you. This way you can open chests to grind materials, but you won't be inundated with silver chests that take forever to open.

SHOP

  • Gold is fairly readily available, so don't feel like you need to hoard and store it for any particular item.
  • It's harder to find gems, but you can collect them just by playing. Gems can be obtained by leveling up, dropping them into dungeons from enemies and chests, and collecting them by completing quests.
  • Be sure to check the store every day, they offer a free item every day, so be sure to take advantage of it
  • Gems should be saved for the most part, I wouldn't waste them on chests or speed up crafting. It is best to use them to get resources. When you level up, the game will offer you a set that can be purchased with Gems that will give you guaranteed resources. The most important of these are limited-time Imperial Shipment offers. They include a full batch of different materials and will allow you to build your city much faster. If you're going to be spending money on a game, it's best to use it for them.
  • Another thing that I would like to consider using stones is to increase the number of chests and items. They are relatively cheap so I wouldn't sweat using some of the gems you get in the game to upgrade them.
