Ubisoft Announces Tom Clancy's XDefiant - Free Online 6v6 First Person Shooter
Ubisoft has announced Tom Clancy's XDefiant, a shareware online first-person shooter with 6v6 battles. The game is a crossover of the Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and The Division series.
Ubisoft has continued to expand and develop the Tom Clancy universe over the last couple of years. While Rainbow Six Siege: The Division and others continue to be incredibly popular, Ubisoft has begun introducing new ideas to freshen up the universe. For instance, Rainbow six extraction takes cues from the limited-time Outbreak event in Siege , creating an all-new game based on a three-person cooperative mission structure, telling the story of Team Rainbow as they try to fight back against a biological threat.
Last month, leaked documents appear to have revealed yet another new evolution of the Tom Clancy franchise. Insiders introduced a new the game in development by Ubisoft, known as BattleCat , apparently a multiplayer first-person shooter that brought together factions from across the Clancy franchise, including Splinter Cell , The Division и Ghost Recon. The leaked documents represented a game similar to Overwatch, with the character gaining access to abilities, ultimates, and game modes that included things like Escort, which is very similar to what happens in Overwatch.
As it turns out, this leak was mostly true, since Ubisoft's teasing post about Tom Clancy over the weekend has been revealed as a new FPS called xdefiant . The game is free to play and will be played by two teams of 6 players each. The game is currently in development at Ubisoft San Francisco with Mark Rubin as executive producer and Jason Schroeder as creative director.
As expected, players have four factions to choose from: Outcasts and Cleaners, representing The Division , Echelon of Splinter Cell and Wolves out Ghost Recon: Breakpoint . Ubisoft plans to add more over time, but for now, each faction has its own abilities and can be personalized by the player, including weapon loadouts, attachments, gadgets, and more.
Two game modes were highlighted, including the previously mentioned "Escort" and "Domination". Ubisoft promises a large pool of unique maps that rotate to make every match different from one another. Players will be able to experience the game in closed beta testing on August 5, and those who wish will be able to register on the main web- Online xdefiant, to play early.
There is currently no scheduled release date xdefiant, as the developer seems to be intent on using player feedback to make the game look good at first sight. The decision is probably a good one as Ubisoft was recently forced to delay a couple of games including Rainbow six extraction . Originally scheduled for release in September, Extraction has been rescheduled for January 2022, where you can use the added months to refine the experience and bring it to life the way the team envisions it.
xdefiant currently in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X.
