Valorant: How to Play as Agent Sage (Sage)
Valorant boasts a diverse roster of Agents, but what is it about Sage that makes it special? We delve into everything there is to know about the Sentinel Medic.
Sage is a calming force in an otherwise hectic battlefield. Perfect for those looking to take on a more supportive role, Sage combines both of his healing powers with his orbs to become the ultimate protective agent.
Given how powerful a Sage agent can be, let's take a look at how having a Sage on your team can change the balance between life and death. Here's everything you need to know about one of Valorant's most powerful agents.
Sage abilities
The mantra of the Sage is security. On the battlefield, where second chances are few and far between, the Sage provides the ultimate safety net for his comrades in the moment of need. Here are her four abilities:
- Sage's signature ability allows you to heal yourself or allies - the effect lasts for several seconds and can be interrupted by any damage received. The skill has no charges, but has a long cooldown that rarely allows Sage to heal more than one hero per round. But when playing with Sage on the point, you can not be afraid to get a random cross - the character will fix everything.
- The second ability of Sage is the installation of an impenetrable ice wall, which is guaranteed to close even the widest passage. Rivals (and allies) can destroy the obstacle, but for this they will need to release a whole magazine from the local analogue of the AK-47 into it - I would like to believe that the ability will be slightly nerfed by the release. In addition, the wall can be spawned directly under the hero, thus "boosting" him to previously inaccessible points.
- Another additional Sage skill allows her to throw a projectile twice per round, which temporarily covers an area on the ground in crystals. They do not deal damage, but they greatly slow down the movement of the characters, and also make their steps very loud - even if the opponents are sneaking "shift". This also affects allies, so throwing such a bomb at a point is not a good idea.
- Sage's ultimate gives her the ability to resurrect an ally with full health. On paper, it may seem like a completely broken skill, but in reality, it does not really affect the game that much. Using it in rounds where your team is winning is useless. And in 1v4 situations, a resurrected teammate will hardly save the situation. Quite often I saw Sage players save their ultimate until the end of the map in anticipation of a key round, but how to know which round to consider as such is a big mystery.
Healing is Sage's biggest asset - and it's what essentially sets her apart from some of the others in her class. Sentinel Agent's Healing Orb is a handy tool to use during a round, as it will allow you to heal a damaged teammate once per round. But be careful, the Signature Ability only comes with one charge per round, so use it wisely!
The thing that completely changes the game in Sage is her ability to resurrect an ally from the dead. That's right, after getting his Ultimate Ability (seven points), the Sage can bring back a teammate, even if without armor.
This is especially useful given that the revived teammate will have the opportunity to observe for some period of time and will therefore gain some precious information that can change the course of the round.
Secrets of the game for Sage
Counter-Strike legend Mathieu 'Maniac' Quiquerez showed exactly why Sage could be one of the team's most valuable assets during an exclusive early gameplay .
The sage doesn't just support his fellow agents. As one of the characters in Agent Valorant, she can make her own games and defend herself against oncoming threats. What allows her to do this? Her base set of abilities - both of which can be purchased between each round.
Sage's Barrier Orb (300 Creds) allows her to place a solid wall (consisting of individual blocks) that can be used to block certain choke points on the map. Although the blocks can be destroyed by the enemy team, they will be a hindrance when your opponent is trying to master a certain part of the map.
Sage is at his best defending against an offensive strike from the enemy team. As Maniac explained, Sage takes full control of the map: "The degree of control over your opponent with Sage is so cool that it's the best option when you're defending."
In terms of how a Support Agent can be used offensively, Maniac has portrayed the ideal situation in which Sage can be used to keep the defensive team from getting kills. "If you get an attack rush, then with [Slow Orb] you can basically close all the enemy's escape points - which is very annoying when you are defending."
Of course, there are ways to counter Slow Orb and Barrier Orb Sage - like Jett using her Updraft and Tailwind abilities - but if used under the right circumstances, they can be the deciding factor in determining the outcome of a round... Tip: Make Sage a mandatory Agent on any team !
All values and some gameplay elements seen on in-game footage may have changed by the time Valorant officially releases to the public in the summer of 2020.
