Velen Map

Velen is the northern province of Temeria, conquered by the Nilfgaardian Empire during the Third Great Northern War. Most of the territory of Velen is occupied by swamps and swampy forests full of monsters.

There are also rumors about mysterious witches who guard the local swamps. The roads between the villages were filled with street robbers, who, quite often, are representatives of the local authorities. In the forests, the area is overcrowded with monsters of many kinds, corpse-eaters and ghosts are especially common. Waterways, rivers and swamps are home to drowners and water women.

The area has many elven ruins and power stones.

“It's bad in Velen. As always... Or maybe even worse. In this land there have never been milk rivers with jelly banks ... And now he choked in blood. Troops passed through it several times. They trampled fields, robbed houses, burned villages. Hunger has begun.
— Ambassador Var Attre

At the time of the game, Velen is a buffer zone between Nilfgaard and Redania.

The region was never famous for wealth or prosperity, and after the outbreak of war, the situation only worsened. Velen is right on the front line between Redania and Nilfgaard. There is also a detachment of Temerian partisans operating in the region. This place is now cursed and forgotten by everyone, and the peasants here are trying to make ends meet. There is no centralized authority; everything is ruled by the viceroy of the empire, known as the Bloody Baron.

Nilfgaardian liaison (lvl 5)

At the request of Yennefer, in search of Ciri, Geralt goes to Velen to visit a tavern with a plain name "At the crossroads". However, upon arriving at the place, the witcher realizes that he is not welcome here, that is, not at all. The innkeeper, instead of answering his questions, invites him to leave through the back entrance so as not to catch the eye of the locals, and the locals, as if by agreement, tumble into the inn at that moment and in a very persistent form bombard him with questions, seeing him as a stranger.

Depending on the answers of the witcher with them, either everything is decided peacefully or a battle takes place (Bandits level 4). In the first case, during the time-limited response, it is worth choosing either the phrase "Let's drink?" and in the future, in the answers, still limited in time, choose phrases in this order: "I'm going to Novigrad" and "Your health" or "I'm a witcher." In the first case, the battle will not happen, and the bandits will sit down at the bench and tell each other about their atrocities, in the second case, they will be afraid of the witcher and leave him alone. In any other options for Geralt's answer, a fight will occur.

Depending on the actions of the witcher, the innkeeper will either thank him for not interfering in the quarrel or begin to lament that he killed the people of a certain baron, for which he will not remain in debt. In any case, he will cooperate by providing some information about Gendrik and - most importantly - that he is in Vereskovka, from the side of which a glow has recently blazed. Well, Geralt, having learned everything he needs, goes to the indicated village.

Having reached the indicated village, the witcher will see a ruined village, immersed in snow in the middle of summer. Entering the village, Geralt discovers the only survivor fighting off wild dogs. Having dealt with them and calmed, thanks to the sign of Aksy, the panic-minded peasant, the witcher finally finds out what happened in Vereskovka. Arising out of nowhere, the village was visited by the Wild Hunt, which, obviously, having found out something from Gendrik living here, kills him, at the same time destroying the entire village. As a result of their raid, Heather becomes a dead village, immersed in snow, and Geralt loses a valuable informant. In search of a clue, the witcher decides to head to Gendrik's house to search his corpse.

Hendrik is found lying with a pool of his congealed blood. He was tortured, but it is not known what he told his tormentors. Hoping to find at least some clue, Geralt searches his body. Luck favors him and soon cherished key found in the shoe of the murdered. It remains only to find a castle that suits him, and in this he helps witcher sense. Under the flooring in the next room, a hatch with a lock is found. Going downstairs, the witcher discovers a small office with a secret, opened by a candlestick hanging on the wall. Opening a chest with papers, in which, in addition to trade declarations, many clues are found, in one way or another connected with Ciri and the Bloody Baron. Geralt decides it's time to visit him. Upon completion of this stage, the witcher receives 100 experience.

Additionally

  • You can find out more information about the bloody baron from the innkeeper.
  • After killing the baron's people, all the bandits (baron's people) in the village where the tavern is located become aggressive towards Geralt and attack him as soon as he appears before their eyes. It is also worth remembering that after killing them, you will not be able to peacefully enter the castle of Vronitsa during the “Bloody Baron” quest.
  • In Gendrik's hidden office, on the wall, you can see a poster with a picture of Tamara Stenger and a request for help on it.

Diary entry

In search of Ciri, Geralt reached Velen. Anyone who has not been to these parts will never understand how lousy this place is. In those days it was called No Man's Land. Why? The emperor had not yet occupied it, Temeria was defeated, and the Redans had already managed to retreat north. No one ruled this land, and this “no one” turned out to be a wicked ruler. Geralt had to find an agent named Gendrik, who was involved in the Ciri case, and get information from him regarding the girl. However, Hendrik was already dead, having been killed by the Wild Hunt. The Ghost Riders were also looking for Ciri, only one step ahead of Geralt. The witcher managed to find only fragmentary notes of the agent about his ward, but from them it became at least known that Ciri was visiting the Bloody Baron, the self-proclaimed ruler of Velen, and quarreled with some witch, who lives, presumably, near the village of Underwood.

Bloody Baron (lvl 6)

The Nilfgaardian agent found out that Ciri was visiting a certain baron - the self-proclaimed ruler of Velen. This man was known for his temper and cruelty, which is why he was called the Bloody. But the witcher was not one of the shy ones, and even more so he was not afraid of nicknames, which owed their origin to the bodily juices of the body. Therefore, he went to Vronitsa, the residence of the Bloody Baron, to ask him about Cyril.

The guards who stood at the gates of the castle were not at all happy at the sight of Geralt and refused to let him through. The Witcher had to find another way to get into Vronitsa and talk to the Bloody Baron.

Unexpectedly, a grandfather from a village near the castle came to help Geralt. He directed him to the source of the stream that fed the old well: along the channel, as the old man claimed, it was possible to get into Vronitsa.

The first meeting with the Bloody Baron left Geralt with mixed feelings, and the baron himself did not seem so bloody. Although, maybe it was just an appearance? In any case, it turned out that Ciri had indeed visited Vronitsa some time ago. For further information about the girl, the baron set his own price.

The quest is activated when Geralt reads Hendrik's papers during the Nilfgaardian Messenger task.

Important! Depending on the solution of the issue with the people of the baron in the tavern "At the Crossroads", getting into the castle of Vronitsa to the Bloody Baron is divided into two ways.

Geralt kills the Baron's men

Having stumbled upon another clue, the witcher goes to the Bloody Baron to find out details about the missing Ciri. However, the incident in the tavern does not go unnoticed, and upon arrival in a small village under the castle, he is met only by peasants running away from him and a couple of hostile soldiers of the baron (level 3). The guards behind the gate refuse to let the witcher through, and he has no choice but to come up with a new way to get to the Bloody Baron. Fortunately for him, a local old-timer helps him, even if not for free (15 orens), by telling a story about a drowned boy. From it it turns out that between the courtyard well of the castle and a small river encircling it, there is an underground passage. It remains only to find a small chapel where, according to grandfather, there is an entrance in the neighborhood.

The entrance to the underground cave turns out to be very close to the chapel indicated by the grandfather, namely, in the river flowing next to it. Once inside, the witcher discovers not only the darkness under the arches of the cave (it is advisable to use the “Cat”), but also the enemy, who turned out to be a water woman (level 6). Having defeated the latter, Geralt climbs up the cliff and soon discovers a staircase leading up to the courtyard. There the witcher discovers the baron.

On a note! There are two chests hidden in a small reservoir, next to which a battle with a water woman took place.

Bloody Baron

Important! When killing the people of the Baron, he, albeit with great reluctance, accepts the witcher, offering him some work. Whether or not to accept it is up to the player. If the player accepts it, then the Baron immediately leads him to his audience. In a peaceful scenario, the question of work does not arise and he immediately invites the witcher to come to him. By the way, the choice to drink vodka does not affect the Baron's disposition towards Geralt, changing only a couple of lines in the dialogue.

Having got in one way or another to the Bloody Baron for an appointment, Geralt is immediately convinced that he did not come here in vain. He immediately mentions Ciri and begins to talk about how she got to him.

Important! Next, the player takes control of the character Ciri. Quest in progress: History of Ciri. Wolf King

Having stopped his story on the further fate of Ciri, the Baron talks about his wife and daughter, who disappeared the day before. He asks to find them, and in return the Baron promises to continue his story. Having no reason to refuse him this, Geralt agrees to his proposal, thus receiving his 100 experience.

Important! Upon completion of this quest, the tasks "Family Affairs» и "Ciri's room".

Story of Ciri: The Wolf King  (lvl 5)

Diary entry

Fleeing from the monsters that inhabited the Crooked Marsh, Ciri reached the old bed of Pontar.

Crossing the old channel, Ciri met a frightened girl named Gretka. A child with a tremor in his voice spoke about the King of the Wolves, and soon the beast herself blocked the path of Ciri and Gretka - this is the turn of a worthy terrible ballad! The Wolf King turned out to be a werewolf. A fight ensued, during which the monster wounded Ciri before disappearing himself. One villager who witnessed this incident, in gratitude for the saved life, took Ciri and Gretka to Vronitsa, the residence of the baron, where they both were bandaged and fed.

Tasks

  • Walk along the old bed to find help;
  • Kill the wolves;
  • Follow Gretka;
  • Protect Gretka from wolves;
  • Protect Gretka from wolves;
  • Collect dog parsley (2/2);
  • Assemble wolfbreaker (3/3);
  • Kill a werewolf.

The quest is activated during the passage of the task "Bloody Baron". Ciri, running away from the Wild Hunt, falls into a ravine with a small stream flowing through it. She understands that she will not be able to rise with her wounds and moves forward. Soon, another enemy appears before her, this time in the face of a small pack of wolves, apparently attracted by a girl in a tree. Seeing that Cirilla coped with the wolves, she, having listened to her advice, descends to her. From a conversation with her, it becomes clear that the girl is as lost as Ciri herself. The Witcher decides to help the girl find her way to her parents and at the same time figure out her location.

On the way to the intended goal, their company again meets a pack of wolves. And everything would be fine, only their next find seriously worries the witcher. She turns out to be a torn peasant lying in a broken boat. Cirilla comes to the conclusion that the stories about the "Wolf King" are not Gretka's fiction at all, but quite real stories in which volkolak. Since a monster is walking nearby, then you need to defend yourself accordingly. Unfortunately for Ciri herself, she does not have a silver sword, but she knows how to make a special oil that can help her resist the monster. It remains only to collect the necessary ingredients that literally grow under your feet.

Quickly gathering everything she needs, Cirilla finally applies oil to her sword, thus preparing herself for the battle with the werewolf. It remains only to find the latter and he disappoints her. Moving along the corpses left by him, she finds his lair and, together with Gretka, goes down there. There, the Wolf King turns out to be, already ready to tear another poor fellow. The Witcher enters into a fleeting battle and, as expected, defeats him.

The person saved by her does not remain in debt and brings her to his master. It turns out to be the Bloody Baron. He, having shown himself to be a hospitable person, takes all the trouble on them, even if the girl brought by his subordinate turns out to be not his daughter at all.

Family Affairs  (lvl 5)

Diary entry

The Baron proved to be an experienced negotiator and fully understood the value of the information he possessed. He agreed to tell Geralt about Ciri only on the condition that the witcher find his wife and daughter. The women disappeared shortly before the events described, and the baron, even turning the whole of Velen upside down, could not find them.

Tasks

  • follow the baron
  • Use your witcher senses to search the rooms
  • Talk to the Baron again
  • Talk to the Witch
  • Help Soothsayer
  • Talk to the Baron again

Having stopped his story on the further fate of Ciri, the Baron talks about his wife and daughter, who disappeared the day before. He asks to find them, and in return the Baron promises to continue his story. After listening to his assumptions and asking him a couple of questions, Geralt invites him to search the rooms of the missing. After a little thought, the Baron agrees with the condition that he will be nearby, since someone had to open the doors.

Having opened the jamming door, the Baron remains to guard the door, leaving the witcher in the room alone with the task. Using the witcher's instincts to find the necessary evidence, Geralt soon stumbles upon traces of a fight.

In the Baron's room, the witcher finds a candlestick without a leg. Geralt also notices that the picture is hung up. Behind it, he discovers a hole. In the closet itself, he finds a leg from a candlestick, strange scratches on the column. Near the table, the witcher smells a strong smell of wine. He follows this scent, but the trail soon ends. But the witcher finds a strange amulet. After that, he returns to the Baron. The Baron replies to all questions that his guards did not see anything. But he advises to talk with Vorozhei, whom his wife trusted. When Geralt arrives at the healer's house, he will already be surrounded by a group of some angry warriors. They also need a guardian. Preferably dead. In Geralt's arsenal, there are several ways to ward off stubborn visitors. So they are very angry at the Soothsayer, because. their friend has diarrhea and is sitting in the toilet. They can be deceived.

If the witcher did not fight

If Geralt managed to avoid a fight in a tavern, then you can negotiate peacefully. Geralt will offer to help heal a colleague, and the guys will agree to the witcher's proposal, listen to his advice and peacefully go home.

If the witcher fought

If bloodshed then could not be avoided, then in response the guys will ask: “And who are you?". Hearing that the witcher is in front of them, they will draw their swords and rush into the fray. So you have to deal with them.

It doesn’t matter how things turn out, but the Witcher will appear as a Witcher. He will immediately say that he made the medallion for Anna. He agrees to help Geralt, but his goat is missing. He asks to return it by starting the quest. After passing it, the Witch will ask for blood. While the witcher is hunting, he is milking a goat. Having mixed blood with milk, he turns to the spirits. Alas, Geralt will not know where to look for the daughter and wife of the Baron, but he will learn about the murder. Namely, that Anna had a dead child. The baron buried it without rituals, and as a result it became an igoshe. The soothsayer will say that Igosha can be disenchanted. But if the witcher decides to destroy it, then the Witcher will agree to perform a ritual with blood. Geralt decides to talk to the Baron. But when he returns, he finds a burning stable in the castle. It turns out that the Baron, in a drunken stupor, set fire to the stable. Everyone is afraid to put it out. Oil on the fire (figuratively) is added by one of the soldiers - his brother remained in the stable. Save him or not - it's up to Geralt (but if you save him, Geralt will receive a reward). The Baron will have to be sobered with his fists.

Here's how to cut:

Geralt will ask the Baron to pick up the Igosha. After that, they will head to the castle. On the way they will be attacked by ghosts. After each attack, Geralt needs to calm down the Baron Igosh Axiom, who is escaping from the hands. When they reach the threshold, the witcher begins to dictate words, and the Baron names Igosha Deya. After that, the igosha gives up his spirit, and the Baron buries him. When the deed is done, Geralt asks the Baron to leave, while he remains to wait. The next night, he summons a chur and asks for help. First, the chur will lead our hero to the tar mill. Having examined the courtyard with the help of the witcher's instincts, Geralt will understand that on the night of the escape, the women were here. Then the chur will take the witcher to the corpse of the horse. Having dealt with the foulbrood, the witcher will examine the place. He will come to the conclusion that the fugitives were attacked by a large monster that managed to tear off the horse's head. Then the chur will take the witcher to the fisherman's hut.

Rybak strongly denies any involvement. But the fisherman will be betrayed by his own son. In the end, the fisherman will tell everything as it was. He really helped Anna and Tamara escape. Tamara is now in Oxenfurt, with his brother. And on the night of the escape, Anna was attacked by a monster and dragged into the forest, but before his appearance, fire signs appeared on the woman’s hand. The fisherman knows nothing about her further fate. Geralt returns to the Baron.

Note: If the witcher has already completed the main quest "Mistress of the Forest", then he will remember that he saw a woman with fire signs on Krivoukhovy marshes. And the fisherman will remember that before the attack of the monster he heard voices.

Returning, Geralt tells the Baron about the fugitives. The Baron begins to talk about Ciri (the quest "The Story of Ciri. From the Shadows" begins). After the story, the baron will insist that he certainly see his daughter, and will give him an Redan travel letter, which will allow him to freely pass through military outposts along the banks of the Pontar. If the witcher has already been to Oxenfurt, then Philip will start asking about Tamara and will be very upset by her decision not to return

To help the princess (lvl 5)

Tasks

  • Return the goat to the witcher with the help of a bell and witcher's instincts.
  • Take the goat to the fortuneteller.
  • Using the bell, take the goat to the fortuneteller.
  • Protect the goat from the bear.

To conduct a ceremony designed to search for the missing relatives of the Bloody Baron, the Witch needs his goat, nicknamed Princess. The old man asks the witcher to find the animal and gives him a bell, to which the Princess responds. Geralt, with the help of the witcher's flair, finds a goat in the footsteps, killing several wolves along the way. When Geralt leads the goat back, she, without responding to the ringing of a bell, descends to the cave where she lives bear. Geralt must hurry, otherwise he will kill the Princess, or you can kill the bear at the moment when the witcher is still looking for the goat.

In gratitude for the help, the old man tells the witcher that Anna Stenger was pregnant, and the Baron, in alcoholic oblivion, beat the woman, which caused her to miscarry. Since Philip did not bury his child according to the rite, it turned into Igosha. Geralt must decide whether to remove the curse from Igosha and turn him into a Chur, or kill him and bring his blood to the Soothsayer, who will perform the ceremony at the nearest temple.

Diary entry

In search of information about the baron's wife and daughter, Geralt stumbled upon a man called a soothsayer. This husband already at first glance seemed to him an extraordinary person, and this impression only intensified when he declared that he could charm Geralt with everything that had happened to Anna and Tamara, provided that he would return a runaway goat named Princess. Having no other choice, the witcher went in search.

Ciri's Story: Horse Racing (Lvl 5)

Tasks

  • Defeat the Baron at the races.

Diary entry

The baron treated Ciri like a daughter. The girl immediately fell in love with his people - mainly because of her love for horses and her ability to hunt. One evening, when everyone was celebrating a successful hunt around the fire, Ciri challenged the baron. She bet that she would beat him in the races, and he, in turn, would give her a stallion, which she looked after herself. The Baron raised his glove.

Horse racing, although it began as a safe sport, soon took a very different turn. The horses of Ciri and the baron went head to head. When the eyes of the riders appeared the tower, which was supposed to be the finishing mark, right at its foot a terrible basilisk landed

As a payment, the Baron will tell you that after the hunt, when Ciri rested, they sat at the fire and discussed worldly affairs. At this time, you are given the opportunity to control the girl. There will be no change from the answer options in the plot of this mission. That is, you have to compete with the baron in horse racing for a dare. Of course, it is desirable to win them.

This is the strategy. The horse has a certain reserve of strength, which is quickly spent during the gallop. Therefore, it is desirable to use this moment as much as possible. As soon as you start we go to a gallop. As soon as narrow sections come across, where two horses cannot disperse, the gallop is temporarily released. In this case, the horse will rest, and the baron will not be able to overtake. After the victory, Ciri will be attacked by a basilisk. However, he will attack in any case.

Diary entry

From the notes of the Nilfgaardian agent Gendrik, the witcher knew that Ciri had quarreled with a certain witch. Everything pointed to a sorceress who lived not far from Undergrowth. To get to the witch, Geralt had to ask the villagers about her.The peasants from Podlesye were not too talkative, but the witcher still managed to figure out how to get to the sorceress's house.Unfortunately, Keira Metz never met Ciri, and most likely, another witch was mentioned in Hendrik's notes. However, the efforts were not in vain. Keira Metz, who pretended to be a village sorceress, recently received a guest - an incognito elven sorcerer. This mysterious visitor asked, like Geralt, about Ciri. Keira knew where to look for the sorcerer, and went to his hideout with the witcher.

Geralt is heading to the village of Podlesie. There, he can find out the location of the witch's hut in several ways: persuade the man, eavesdrop and follow the gossips, or ask the old man. Having reached the witch's house (no matter how), the witcher sees how she receives the people. Noticing Geralt, she goes into the house. The witcher follows, but the witch is gone. After examining the house, the witcher notices strange symbols on the floor. Touching the skull, he opens a portal to a lovely grove. The witch invites the witcher to rise. Geralt finds her doing an interesting thing - she is taking a bath. It turns out that this witch is a friend of Geralt named Keira Metz. She is very surprised by the appearance of Geralt. He explains the reason for his arrival, but Keira disappoints him - she has never met Ciri. However, recently an elf visited her, not "squirrel"and the mage. He was also interested in Ciri. He did not give a name, but indicated where to find him. Keira invites the witcher to come with her. This is how the quest begins "To the touch".

On the Touch (lvl 5)

Tasks

  • Meet Keira at the cave.
  • Follow the Wild Hunt.
  • Find Keira.
  • Deal with the rats.
  • Go through the path of the Swallow.
  • Find the cage using the witcher's flair.

Diary entry

Geralt did not know where Ciri was hiding in Velen, but thanks to Keira, Metz got on the trail of an elven sorcerer who was also looking for the witcher's ward. So, Geralt and Keira went together to explore the hideout of the mysterious elf. Geralt hoped that he would be able to talk to the sorcerer and find out something more about the fate of Cirilla Fiona. Keira wanted to finish some of her business. As soon as our heroes entered the dungeon in which the elf was hiding, they immediately stumbled upon the enemy. Warriors of the Wild Hunt got into the sorcerer's hideout ahead of Geralt and Keira. They were also following Ciri's trail. The Wild Hunt was ahead of our heroes, thanks to the magic of the navigator, who could carry warriors from place to place. Geralt and Keira certainly would not have been able to quickly find their way if they had not stumbled upon a morphotic projection, that is, a speaking and moving image of a sorcerer. The mysterious elf spoke to Ciri, directing her on the right path. He called her Zirael - Swallow - which testified to their long-standing friendship. Hearing the recording, Geralt realized that he would be guided to the goal by the images of a swallow painted on the wall.

Once at the cave (or reaching there, if the witcher did not come immediately), Geralt, together with Keira, descends into the cave. On the other side, the witcher sees the Wild Hunt, which is clearly interested in the magician. Geralt demands that Keira open the portal, despite her claims.

If Geralt managed

If Geralt manages to jump into the portal, he will end up in a cave with drowners. After the battle with them through the flooded tunnel, Geralt will return to the first hall and start searching for Keira.

If Geralt did not have time

If Geralt did not have time to enter, then he will have to look for Keira by voice. He finds her in a cave where she is surrounded by rats. After Geralt deals with the rats, Keira will offer to immediately leave the caves. But Geralt will be able to persuade her, and they will go further. They soon stumble upon a morph projection of an elven mage with a message for Ciri. When mentioning the path of the sword, Geralt remembers that Ciri's sword is called the Swallow, and therefore one must follow the path indicated by this symbol. Passing by the old elven pier, the heroes will stumble upon another message. In it, the magician mentions Kelpi. Geralt remembers that that was the name of Ciri's horse. By activating the horse symbols, he opens a portal.

On the other side, the travelers see a golem that immediately attacks them. Having dealt with the golem, Geralt finds a new portal. Having passed it, the heroes catch up with the Hunt. But they leave again, leaving portals through which the White Frost seeps. Keira creates protection and tries to close the portals. While she is doing this, Geralt protects her from the hounds. After closing, Keira will fall, but the witcher will support her. Continuing the path, the heroes will see frozen golems. Soon they come across one of the Riders. Geralt will immediately engage him in battle. After the victory, the witcher learns that the magician warns Ciri about witches. Keira gives him a book about the Lady of the Forest, after which he begins to study the laboratory. Realizing that the magician is not here, Geralt decides to go to the swamp. He will also pay attention to the strange wall. Keira realizes that the wall next to the bookshelves will turn out to be illusory and give the witcher the eye of Nehalena. With it, the witcher will be able to remove illusions. After passing through the illusion, the heroes will be at the exit. But Keira will remember that the magician promised to give her a magic lamp. She decides to get it herself. If the witcher agrees to help, then the quest "Magic lamp". If he refuses and leaves the dungeon, the quest "Invitation from Keira Metz».

As a result of the journey, Geralt learns that the magician never met Ciri, understands that the Wild Hunt is looking for her, and also receives Nehalena's eye, which can remove illusions.

Additionally

Diary entry

From the information found in the house of the Nilfgaardian agent Gendrik, it followed that Ciri had quarreled with a certain Velensky witch. At first, Geralt believed that this witch was Keira Metz, but later it turned out that Gendrik was referring to someone who lives in Crooked-ear Marsh. Therefore, the witcher went to the swamps to find the witch who lived there and ask her about Ciri.

Hendrik could not find out the whole truth and misled the witcher with his notes. It turned out that Ciri really met with the witch from the Crooked Marsh, and in addition with her two sisters. The witches were going to give the girl to one of the leaders of the Wild Hunt named Imleric. However, Ciri eluded the monstrous sisters and fled from the swamps.

From Keira Metz or the Bloody Baron, we learn about witches from Crooked Marsh. According to the stories of the peasants, the “sweet path” leads to the dwelling place of the Mistresses of the Forest. Indeed, the path leads to a refuge among the swamps. However, apart from half a dozen children and an elderly woman looking after them, there is at first glance no one here.

An attempt to find out from the children whether they saw Ciri ends up with the fact that the boy, who mentioned a certain Ivasik, is punished by putting him in a corner, an old woman and looking after him. In order to find out more information about Ivasik, Geralt makes a deal with the children. According to the agreement, if he plays hide and seek with the children, they will distract the grandmother. Following in the footsteps of the children and finding them in one of the huts, in a haystack, behind the hut next to the same haystack, as well as behind the hut in which the punished boy was, Geralt fulfilled his part of the deal. And the children honestly fulfilled theirs - luring the granny out.

From a conversation with a punished boy, we learn where to look for Ivasik. A short search leads us to his hole. Ivasik turns out to be a godfather. However, for some unknown reason, he lost his voice. The Witcher decides to find him. Following Ivasik and cutting out the drowners we meet on the way, we find ourselves at the foot of the cliff, on top of which the harpies nest. Having dealt with them, we find a jug in which the voice of the god is located. (The pitcher with the voice can be found earlier, but you still need to come to the rock).

In gratitude for the returned voice, Ivasik helps to persuade the grandmother to show Geralt to the Mistresses. Speaking through a woman as through a guide, the Witches give the witcher a task, after completing which he will receive information about Ciri. On assignment, you need to help the headman of the village Steiger. He talks about his trouble, and we rush to solve it. The road leads us to a cave guarded by a werewolf, and in the cave itself we find a living creature pulsating like a heart. Trying to escape, the goal of our task says that in exchange for saving lives, he will save children. And we face a moral choice.

If we decide to kill the spirit of the tree, then there are two ways: by deception to get close to the victim and kill her, or to break through by force, destroying the defenders that appear. If we agree to a deal, then it is necessary to find the bones, the black horse and get the blood. Regardless of the chosen path, we inform the headman that the deed is done. We receive payment for the Mistresses and return to the swamps. We put the board on the stone and personally speak with the Witches from Crooked Marshes. They say that Ciri visited them, and they were going to sell her to Eredin.

Experience the Power of Effective Results

  • Find out where the Bloody Baron's wife is.
  • Find out what happened to Ciri.
  • Depending on the moral choice, we get 2 options for the outcome of the Bloody Baron storyline.
  • Depending on the moral choice, we decide what will happen to the Steigers.

Whispering hill (lvl 5)

Tasks

  • Go to the village Steigery.
  • Show the stiletto to the headman.
  • Use your witcher senses to explore the hill.
  • Find Something inside the hill.
  • Destroy him or help him.
  • Get paid by the headman.
  • Take the payment to the witches.

The quest will start when you approach Whispering Hill. Or the witches will ask the witcher to go to the headman of the village Steigery. They'll even give him a stiletto. Showing it to the headman, Geralt learns that something is killing people. He will be directed to Whispering Hill. Walking along the road, the witcher will find corpses. Soon he will hear a strange voice demanding that he leave. Soon the witcher will face the werewolf. After defeating him (or running past), the witcher enters the cave. Swimming through the flooded tunnel, Geralt will find Something.

It is a Something will talk to him. It asks the witcher to release it, for only it can save the children from the orphanage in the swamps. And Geralt has to make a choice: kill the creature or free it.

If Geralt decides to release the spirit

The Spirit will command to bring him a crow's feather, his decayed bones and bring a black mare. Geralt should already have a pen, because. he found it in the same nest with the voice of Ivasik (if the pen was not taken then, then he would have to walk to the nest one more time). The witcher will find the bones in a lonely grave to the west of the cave. After inspecting the tombstone with the help of the witcher's instincts, the witcher takes the remains. Geralt will find the horses on the field south of the Whispering Hill. Having subjugated the first horse he came across to himself, the witcher rides on it back to the cave on the Whispering Hill.

Afterwards, the Spirit tells Geralt how to perform the ritual and free him. At this moment, the witcher will have a chance to think again what to do with him: release him, honestly admit that they decided to kill him, or kill him by fraud

If Geralt decides to kill the spirit

Then several endriags will attack him. In between, the witcher will attack the root itself. After defeating him, everything will be over.

Having destroyed the root, the witcher finds the headman of the village and several inhabitants at the entrance to the cave. Geralt talks about paying, and the headman, before his astonished eyes, cuts off his ear.

If Geralt decides to deceive the spirit

First, Geralt must promise the spirit to save him. When he brings the necessary ingredients and puts them in the right order, you can trick the spirit and kill him without a fight.

Aftermath

What Geralt does with the spirit will affect the fate of the children from the orphanage, the inhabitants of the village of Steigers, Anna and the baron.

  • If the spirit gets free, it will save the kids, but will kill the inhabitants of the Steigers. Anna, punished by the witches, will die. The baron will not bear the death of his wife and will hang himself. After that, his former people will completely get out of hand and begin to rob the peasants in the village adjacent to the castle. According to many players, the rescued children can be found after some time in the Marabella Orphanage in Novigrad (we visit it as part of the main quest "List of Harlots"), although the names of the orphanage pupils and Anna's former wards do not match. Ghosts will settle in the deserted Steigers.
  • If the spirit is killed, a couple of Steigers will be hanged by the sorceress hunters, but the rest will not be harmed. Children will die. Anna will lose her mind, but she will survive, and the baron will take her to the healer. In his absence, his people will completely get out of hand and begin to rob the peasants in the village adjacent to the castle.
  • If you complete this quest before the first meeting with the witches on the “Mistress of the Forest” quest, and free the spirit, then in this case it will not free the children, but at the same time, Anna will remain alive and go with the baron to the healer, and the inhabitants of Steigers will still killed in spirit.
  • There are versions of the quest on the net, in which both children and Anna survive, but this option was a bug and was not fixed by patches. In addition, there were dialogue errors with this playthrough due to the presence of conflicting dialogue phrases, model display errors, and item spawn errors associated with this quest.

Additionally

  • Interestingly, the book "She Who Knows", which Geralt can find during his wanderings, contains information about the origin of the sisters and the spirit under the hill.

Ciri's Story: Escape from the Swamps

Tasks

  • Get out of the Crooked Marsh

Diary entry

In Velen, Ciri has fallen into the heart of the ominous Crooked Marsh. The girl was exhausted and sought refuge, but to her misfortune fell into the clutches of three terrible sisters, whom the peasants called the Mistresses of the Forest. Ciri quickly realized who she was dealing with, and fled from the Mistresses, barely surviving. But a long, dangerous road through the swamps awaited her.

The Crooked Marsh was home to many terrible monsters, but none were as dangerous as the rider of the Wild Hunt who was chasing Ciri. Imleric - that was his name - arrived at the call of the witches to take Ciri to his king. But since Ciri was running, he went after her to catch the girl. Fortunately, the young witch eluded her pursuer, but the two of them had yet another meeting.

The witches found and sheltered Ciri at home. And when they decided to eat her, Ciri ran into the forest. We find ourselves in the swamps, surrounded by utopians and dogs of the Wild Hunt. We run away from the enemies in the indicated direction. Ciri managed to hide from the Wild Hunt in the gorge. (The subsequent events have already been told to us by the baron). After the story of the witches, we decide what to do with them:

  1. "I won't forgive you for this." (The witches will disappear into the fog, and promise to interfere with our search for Ciri).
  2. “I will find her. And I'll come back for you." (The witches will disappear).

Ciri's Story: Out of the Shadows

Tasks

  • Kill the basilisk.
  • Get to the top of the tower and save the baron.

Diary entry

During the horse races, in which the Baron and Ciri participated, our heroes were attacked by a basilisk. The beast lifted the baron into the air and carried it to her nest, and Ciri, without hesitation, rushed to help her comrade.

Ciri knew that she would have a chance to save the baron only if she acted quickly and used her magic power. The girl made a desperate decision. In the blink of an eye, she moved closer to the monster and cut off his head. Unfortunately, when Ciri used her powers, Eredin immediately realized where the girl was. The brief moment that awakened her dormant powers was enough to attract the Wild Hunt. Ciri did not want to put the whole area at risk - and she would inevitably be destroyed by the appearance of the riders of Eredin. Therefore, she hastily left Vronishchi and headed for Novigrad, hoping to find Yennefer.

Basilisk attacked the settlement of the baron, we enter the battle.

Boss: Basilisk
Ciri can very easily strike in the back: we teleport directly towards the enemy, and we will be behind him. So we hit the boss several times until he gets angry.

The basilisk dragged the baron in its claws to the top of the tower. We can’t climb the tower itself, so we climb the hill on the right, and observe what is happening
upstairs. The Bloody Baron was in danger and Ciri used teleportation to save him. The Wild Hunt can track any use of magic, and
by teleporting, Ciri thereby betrayed herself. After that, the girl had to leave the baron's settlement and go to Novigrad.
The whole story has been heard. Now we can go to Novigrad, or continue to complete additional tasks in Velen.
