Viral rumor about the free Emerald Ax pickaxe in Fortnite. Is it so?

The Fortnite viral scam has potentially popped up ahead of St. Patrick's Day. Each year, St. Patrick's Day items arrive in the merchandise store, which means it's likely that some themed items will return in the next store cycle.
One of the new items that players are looking forward to getting in the Item Shop is the Emerald Axe, and there are even rumors that it will be free. Epic Games often gives away free cosmetic rewards, so this shouldn't come as a surprise.
However, is this particular pickaxe coming into play? Will it be free? This, of course, is not true.
Viral rumors about an emerald ax coming to Fortnite are fake
It appears that the entire Emerald Ax viral rumor is completely false. There doesn't seem to be any real reason to believe that the pickaxe is even coming into the game, let alone being free. In fact, it could very well be a scam.
The scam was based on tweets like this one.
It says:
“Hi everyone, we are proud to announce that we have partnered with the @temu app to exclusively release the Emerald Axe! Just download (Temu)"Shopping App" and enter this code. '89041397' Accept and then create an account with your Fortnite Username to qualify!"
Fake
Besides being littered with grammatical and spelling errors, the tweets are not from any official accounts. The Temu app mentioned in the tweet doesn't even include a download link.
Also, neither Epic Games nor any reliable Fortnite leaks have ever said anything about the Emerald Ax coming into the game for free. Epic rarely intersects with an external entity that requires players to get involved.
However, when they do, they claim it and it's safe, even though it isn't at all. The image of the ax is also slightly blurred, making it even less realistic. It also looks like nothing more than a repainted Star Wand pickaxe.
Youtuber Tabor Hill also pointed out something important, saying:
"This image doesn't tell us anything about how to get it, especially how to get it for free... I'm assuming it's a real shopping app and I'm also assuming that if you use this code they get some money, some kind of promotion or something that benefits them, and you get squats in return.”
Tabor Hill
There is no doubt that some players seem to be trying to get the ax for free. It's understandable because it's a great pickaxe, but it probably won't be free through some random promotion.
If the ax came into play, there would probably be some leaks regarding it, since it is one turn away from the magazine, but there weren't any.
That doesn't mean it won't come, but it almost certainly won't be free, especially not how these scams will make Fortnite players think.
