Reunion with ropz - Destination Karrigan
Finn "karrigan" Andersen is looking to reunite with a former teammate to create a new FaZe superpower in 2022 and expand on his legacy.
2021 was Karrigan's first disastrous year without a title since 2014.
The Dane's time at FaZe since he returned to the team about ten months ago has been a tough one. During the first few months, everything was broken and the team did not make the playoffs in 5 tournaments in a row, as the in-game leader had to deal with a dysfunctional roster that did not have enough room for everyone. Russell "Twistzz" Van Dulken has just arrived in the squad and Marcelo "coldzera" David had difficulty fitting into the new system.
Situation has changed for the better when Olof "olofmeister" Kaibjer returned to the roster in June, but even this did not help the team and FaZe remained out of the fight for the title until the end of the year.
The semi-final run at IEM Cologne, weeks after olofmeister's arrival, remains the highlight of 2021 for a European team that initially reveled in the long-forgotten feel of LAN play but never tapped into much-needed confidence.
Even though they looked much more competitive than in the early stages of 2021, phases returned to their old habits and suffered several losses in the second half of the year, which prevented them from making deeper runs and trophies, almost missing out on a place at the PGL Major Stockholm and finishing outside the playoffs at the very top of the tournament, which was the biggest disappointment for all.
Throughout all the failures, Karrigan told the world that he would not let failure break him or the team. It's all about never giving up and always coming back. That the night is darker before the dawn, and that the dawn is coming.
Having competed and won multiple versions of Counter-Strike, Karrigan is a true veteran at 31, an age where only select players can stay at the top of the game. It's clear that the Dane is still considered by many to be a world-class leader and there's no denying that he's still very determined, but with his last title dating back almost two years, the team captain is obsessed with some torturous thoughts.
However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
As the year draws to a close, rumors of big changes run rampant within FaZe; the potential arrival of a player who could single-handedly turn a team from the underperforming roster they were in 2021 into an instant title contender, a player with whom Karrigan himself has won several tournaments in the past and who is still very good – Robin "ropz" Cool.
He is said to be moving to FaZe for a while as his contract with MOUZ comes to an end. Rumor has it that the 22-year-old pro was choosing between G2 and the American team, but last week it was reported that he chose FaZe after all and that his transition could be completed in the offseason.
With the signing of ropz, Karrigan will be as close to a dream roster as can be imagined at a time when it's getting harder to move big players from one organization to another. The addition of a global top ten representative like ropz will get us back in earnest about Faze getting an incredibly reliable third star player to Twistzz and Helvijs "broky" Saukants.
The change would remove a huge question mark from the indecisive Swede, who has been in and out of the team over the years and openly admitted he was considering retirement when he last left. Ropz would fill the gap exceptionally well as a role-playing player without the need for a massive system overhaul and teammates moving around to accommodate him.
Add to that the previous smnergy with Karrigan, who certainly knows how to get the most out of ropz after playing together for two years under the MOUZ banner and winning five trophies including the latest title of Danish game leader at the ICE Challenge, and it all sounds too good to be true.
But everything suggests that this is true and that the addition of ropz could be FaZe's ticket to the top, the realization of a new superpower that will look to challenge Natus Vincere and all other 2022 prospects like Gambit and the new Vitality. This is Karrigan's chance to put the last two years behind him and expand his legacy as one of the world's top leaders.
