When the fashion for virtual reality glasses began, many gamers approached this trend with caution, remembering how quickly the craze for such technologies ended the last time, in the nineties. They complained about the lack of big games, problems with nausea, and the high price.

Despite the fact that PlayStation VR is technologically behind its competitors, these virtual reality glasses performed best on the market and most actively popularized this type of gaming.

And yet, despite its many problems, VR has survived and paid off as more than just a fad. While Oculus Rift or HTC Vive sales weren't spectacular, those accessories performed well enough that the technology was well established in the market. The technically inferior, but clearly cheaper and reliably supported Sony PlayStation VR has done well, convincing several million players of the technology (exactly 4,2 million in March). Encouraging further development.

The PlayStation 5 will be fully compatible with PS VR, but a growing number of rumors suggest that Sony is already working on the next generation of the technology. PlayStation VR 2.0, backed by the power of a next-generation console, can not only offer a much better VR experience, but also be more convenient to use - like wireless.

In parallel with Sony's plans, Valve also unexpectedly took up VR. Having announced Half Life Alyx, a big-budget spin-off of the iconic FPS series, the company has given a clear signal that it intends to take this technology seriously and that we'll find more than just low-budget, simple games that provide enough for an hour or two of fun. Thanks to the double offensive from both sides, the virtual revolution can finally be realized in 2020.
