Elden Ring, the next game from prestigious Japanese developer From Software, is one of the most anticipated games in recent years. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming hit.

The announcement of Hidetaka Miyazaki and George Martin's collaboration rocked the gaming industry in 2019. 

The two most famous names in the fantasy genre, combined with the famous developers of Dark Souls, have gamers around the world looking forward to any news.

While things have been relatively quiet since the opening, we still have a lot of information to glean. From official trailers to leaked gameplay and more, we've got it all in one place.

Elden Ring release date

Elden Ring release scheduled for Friday, January 21, 2022 .

After years of waiting, Elden Ring finally got a release date of June 10, 2021 during the Summer Games Fest, finally giving fans what they've been waiting for for what seems like an eternity.

Along with an epic gameplay reveal trailer, the release date was announced to be January 21, 2022, meaning players only have a few months to dive headfirst into the game.

Elden Ring trailers and leaked gameplay

The first and only official footage of Elden Ring to that point was released at E3 2019. This announcement trailer was strictly cinematic, setting out the themes, visual style, and loose storytelling.

The Elden Ring gameplay leak then went viral on social media on March 1, 2021. This footage appears to be from an outdated internal-only trailer. It is recorded in mobile quality and has watermarks on every inch of the screen. Although up to this point, he gave us the opportunity to best look at the game.

Thanks to this leaked video, we can see some amazing locations, characters, weapons and of course enemies. From large-scale boss fights to more intimate horseback fights, there's a lot to see.

Traditional Dark Souls-like combat seems to be left unchanged, with the addition of a Bloodborne style. Players strive to wield anything from simple one-handed swords to more complex magical weapons.

During the Summer Games Fest on June 10, 2021 Bandai Namco finally unveiled our first look at official Elden Ring gameplay.

This trailer details some of the enemies in the game, as well as locations and combat.

Further footage from Elden Ring appears to have gone viral on social media on October 16th.

The short 27-second video allegedly shows a From Software game running on an Xbox One console.

Interview with the Director of Elden Ring

Hidetaka Miyazaki, director of Elden Ring, in an interview with IGN talked about several aspects of the trailer and touched on some aspects of the game itself.

Elden Ring will work just like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Bloodbourne, both games published by FromSoftware and these games are known for being extremely difficult in certain parts. However, Miyazaki stated that the game would be more like Sekiro, but not be as difficult as it is.

Unlike other games like Dark Souls, Elden Ring will also place more emphasis on open-world gameplay, as players will be able to create their own paths and choose which areas they want to explore. Additionally, Miyazki talked about stealth and how players will be able to freely use this mechanic in certain situations to avoid enemies they might not want to face.

The developer stated that they wanted the game to: "Create these opportunities for players to see what's ahead of them, below them, and around them, and evaluate how they're going to counter it or not, as the case may be."

The game will also have a customizable character editor and you can summon spirits to help you in battle, which has been a feature in Dark Souls games for quite some time now.

Elden Ring platforms

After the initial announcement, Elden Ring was announced for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. However, since its opening, a whole new generation of console hardware has entered the market. 

Elden Ring is now confirmed to be coming to PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Time required to complete Elden Ring?

Hidetaka Miyazaki also spoke with Famitsu , a Japanese site on Elden Ring, and clarified some of the details of the story and its length.

He stated that the game is about 30 hours long, but he noted that this number will vary from player to player, as the more side missions and exploration you end up doing, the more time they will spend playing the game.

What is the history of Elden Ring?

Little is known about Elden Ring's narrative at this point. What we do know for sure is that the game takes place in a completely original universe created by George Martin. A Song of Ice and Fire author Martin reportedly laid the foundations for this new fantasy title.

Miyazaki then created the game's narrative in this universe, although it is not known what that might entail. The Elden Ring itself seems to be an object of extraordinary power. Our journey through the main storyline may have led us to track down the ring based on dialogue from the leaked trailer.

As is the case with most From Software games, it is likely that key details will be kept secret so that players can find out everything at their convenience.
