Everything New from Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Update 1.17.0 (Bedrock Edition)

Here are all the new blocks, items, mobs, world generation in Minecraft Caves & Cliffs, including the update installation guide and everything you need to know about 1.17.0 (Bedrock Edition)

Caves and Cliffs is one of the most anticipated Minecraft updates. Fans have been waiting for this update ever since Mojang announced the update at Maincon 2020 Live.

Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties and working from home, Mojang will not be able to deliver the update at the agreed time. The developers decided to split the update into two parts. Now they are focused on releasing the flawless first part of a huge patch this summer.

Bedrock 1.17.0.58 beta adds features to Dropbox block and fixes many bugs. Stalagmites will now drip water if there is water above the dripstone block they are attached to. Players can download the Bedrock 1.17.0.58 beta to try out the experimental features.

How to Download Minecraft Bedrock 1.17.0.58

Minecraft Bedrock 1.17.0.58 is available for free for players who already own Minecraft. Interested players can try the beta on Windows, Xbox, and Android. At the moment, only these devices can install Minecraft version 1.17.0.58.

Players can download Minecraft Bedrock 1.17.0.58 after registering for the beta program. Before installing beta versions, read the instructions from the developers:

  • Joining the beta will replace the game with an unfinished version of Minecraft.
  • Players will not be able to access areas and will not be able to join non-beta players during the beta preview.
  • Any worlds played in the beta cannot be opened in previous versions of the game, so please make copies of the worlds to prevent losing them.
  • Beta versions can be unstable and not up to the quality of the final version.

How do I register for the Minecraft beta across platforms?

  • Xbox One and Windows 10 players can sign in and out of the beta using the Xbox Insider Hub app. Please be aware that opting out of the beta may affect all user accounts on the shared device.*
  • Android players can sign in and out of the Minecraft page on the Google Play Store.
  • Please be aware that unregistering a Minecraft beta can sometimes take up to 24 hours.

Once selected, players can download the Bedrock beta from their respective game stores. Turn on the experimental caves and rocks button while creating a new world to load features from the upcoming update.

Creating a new world is a smart thing to do as the beta is not stable and could corrupt the data file. Always remember that before updating the world to a newer version, you need to make a backup.

Blocks

Azalea

  • Can spawn when using bonemeal on a block of moss
  • Generated in lush caves biome.
  • Has a small chance to drop from Azalea leaves.
  • From these blocks you can grow an azalea tree.

amethyst bud

  • It grows from Blooming Amethyst, which can be found in Amethyst Geodes.
  • Growth starts small, but after some time grows to medium size, and after even longer time to large size, and eventually forms into an amethyst cluster.
  • Unlike crops, each stage of growth is a separate block, not a state of it.
  • Nothing drops when destroyed, and can only be harvested by a tool enchanted with silk touch.

amethyst cluster

  • The last stage of growth of an amethyst bud growing from a blooming amethyst in amethyst geodes.
  • When the cluster is destroyed, amethyst shards fall out, but the block itself can be obtained with a tool enchanted with silk touch.
  • Emits level 5 light.

Amethyst block

  • A block that can be found in amethyst geodes.
  • Unlike Blooming Amethyst, Amethyst Block can be obtained by mining.
  • Can also be crafted with 4 Amethyst Shards.

blooming amethyst

  • Generates amethyst crystals on any side of a block for a certain amount of time (if there is a source of water or air nearby, and if the side is not close to another block).
  • Cannot be obtained by mining, even when using a tool enchanted with silk touch, in addition, nothing drops from this block.
  • Instantly destroyed when displaced by a sticky or conventional piston.
    • Cannot be pulled by the sticky piston.
  • Generates in amethyst geodes.

Calcite

  • A white-tinted stone that generates in amethyst geodes between tuff and amethyst.

copper block

  • Can be crafted from 9 Copper Ingots and scrapped back into 9 Copper Ingots.
  • Over time, it oxidizes and changes the texture to turquoise green.
  • The oxidation process can be stopped by combining this block with honeycomb to create a waxed copper block.
  • Can be used to craft a Carved Copper Block.
  • Lightning strike with some chance to remove one or more of the block's oxidation stages.
  • Layers of oxidation or wax can be removed with an axe.

Copper ore

  • Generated randomly underground in small veins, however it was approved as a placeholder.
  • One block of copper ore drops 2 raw ore.
  • It has the same rarity as iron.
  • Ore generation starts at the same minimum level(s) as iron ore.
  • Can be smelted into a copper ingot.

Carved copper block

  • Can be used to create steps and slabs.
  • Over time, it oxidizes and changes texture.
  • The oxidation process can be stopped by combining this block with honeycomb to create a waxed carved copper block.
  • Lightning strike with some chance to remove one or more of the block's oxidation stages.
  • Layers of oxidation or wax can be removed with an axe.

Carved Copper Block Slab

  • Over time, it oxidizes and changes texture.
  • The oxidation process can be stopped by combining this block with a honeycomb to create a waxed slab from a carved copper block.
  • Lightning strike with some chance to remove one or more of the block's oxidation stages.
  • Layers of oxidation or wax can be removed with an axe.

Steps made of carved copper block

  • Over time, they oxidize and change texture.
  • The oxidation process can be stopped by combining this block with a honeycomb to create waxed steps from a carved copper block.
  • Lightning strike with some chance to remove one or more of the block's oxidation stages.
  • Layers of oxidation or wax can be removed with an axe.

Deep slate

  • A dark variant of the stone that generates from Y = -1 to Y = -64.
    • Forms a layer mixed with the stone when the Y value reaches 0.
    • Completely replaces stone, starting at Y = -8.
    • Small accumulations of deep-seated shale also occur between Y = 0 and Y = 16.
  • The block's durability is higher than regular stone, but it can still be mined with any pickaxe.
  • As a result of mining, crushed slate drops.
  • Obtainable with a pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch.
  • Has 19 options.

crushed slate

  • Dropped by destroying deep shale with a pickaxe.
  • The functionality is identical to cobblestone and blackstone in that it can also be used to craft basic tools, furnaces, and brewing racks.
  • Used to create different variants of the block.
  • Also has options for walls, steps and slabs.
  • Can be smelted back into Deep Shale.

drip block

  • Decorative block.
  • Crafted from four droppers.
  • Generates only in the karst cave biome, which is currently only available through certain spawn types: single biome, caves, or flying islands.

Lightning rod

  • Can be crafted with 3 Copper Ingots.
  • The nearest lightning strikes within a radius of 32 blocks will be directed to the lightning rod.
  • Generates a redstone signal with 15 strength when struck by lightning.
  • Can be placed on any face of a block, but does not affect the directionality of the redstone signal.
  • Can be activated by throwing a Thunderer-enchanted trident at him during a thunderstorm, although this does not generate a redstone signal.

Dropper

  • Can be placed either on the bottom face of a block to create a stalactite, or on the top face of a block to create a stalagmite.
    • Can be combined with other similar blocks to form longer stalactites and stalagmites.
  • Throwing a trident at a given block breaks it. Also destroyed when trying to displace the piston.
  • Stalagmites are destroyed if there is no block under them, and deal damage to entities falling on them.
    • The damage depends on the height: for example, jumping on a stalagmite deals 2 (heart.svg) points of damage, and falling on it from a height of three blocks deals 8 (heart.svgheart.svgheart.svgheart.svg) units of damage.
  • Stalactites can fall and shatter if there is no block above them (unlike sand or gravel, they shatter when broken), and deal damage to entities when they fall on them.
    • The damage depends on the height of the fall: for example, a stalactite falling from a height of two blocks deals 2 (heart.svg) units of damage, and when falling from three blocks, deals 4 (heart.svgheart.svg) units of damage.
    • Water and lava can drip from the stalactite into the cauldron if there is a source of one of the liquids above the stalactite, while the cauldron is gradually filled. Water drips even without a water source above the block, but in this case the boiler does not fill. If the dropper is in the Nether, then lava drips.

Loose snow

  • A type of snow that entities can fall through.
  • A player equipped with leather boots will not fall through a block of loose snow.
    • Players can still crouch to plunge into the snow with leather boots on. Wearing leather boots also allows loose snow to be suitable for "lifting", such as water or scaffolding.
  • When inside a block of loose snow, a frosty frame will appear around the player's screen, and any creature inside will begin to freeze and take damage after a short time.
  • Each piece of leather armor reduces the freeze time, and wearing a full set will nullify all freeze damage.
  • A horse in leather armor does not freeze in loose snow.
  • Can be collected and placed in a bucket.
  • If you leave the cauldron under a snowfall, it will fill with loose snow.
  • Skeletons that accidentally get there turn into zymogors after a while.
  • Nether mobs take more damage while in loose snow.
  • Extinguishes burning entities.

acoustic sensor

  • A new redstone component that can be used to build wireless redstone systems.
  • Not naturally generated, only available in the Creative inventory.
  • Reacts to sounds such as block placement, footsteps, projectiles, and generates a redstone signal.
  • Receives sound waves when reacting to nearby sound.
  • The strength of the signal generation can be changed using a comparator, but initially the strength of the signal depends on the distance to the sound.
  • Does not react to the weather, such as rain.
  • Wool can be used as a sound insulator.
  • Does not make sounds while underwater.

Tinted glass

  • A type of glass that does not allow light to pass through.
  • Can be crafted with 4 Amethyst Shards and a Block of Glass.
    • Stained glass cannot be used to create tinted glass.
  • Unlike glass, it drops the same block when broken, and does not require a silk touch enchantment.

Tuff

  • The grayish stone that makes up the outer layer of amethyst geodes.

glowing frame

  • A placeable entity that simulates a glow.
  • It does not affect the level of illumination, it only simulates light, as if it shines on its own.
  • Items placed in a frame also glow.
  • Crafted by combining a frame and a glowing ink sac.
  • Includes the form used when placing cards.

Glowing lichen

  • A natural light source, rarely found in caves, grows on either side of the block.
  • Emits level 7 light.
  • Can be mined with scissors, otherwise destroyed.
  • It does not spread naturally, but the use of bone meal can help it spread horizontally.
  • May be flooded with water.
  • Unlike lianas, lichen is not destroyed by streams of water, and it is impossible to climb on it.
  • Up to 6 lichens can be placed on the same space, the size of a block, forming one solid block.

objects

Amethyst Shard

  • Can be obtained by breaking amethyst clusters.
  • The amount of drops can be increased with a pickaxe enchanted for good luck.
  • Can be used to create tinted glass, amethyst blocks, and a spyglass.

Copper ingot

  • Can be obtained by smelting copper ore.
  • Can be obtained by killing a Drowned.
  • Used to create copper blocks, lightning rods and spyglasses.

Bucket with loose snow

  • Can be obtained by using a bucket on a block of loose snow.
  • Can be used to place a block of loose snow or to fill a cauldron with the same snow.

Spyglass

  • Can be crafted with 2 Copper Ingots and an Amethyst Shard.
  • When used, it visually zooms in on the objects the player is looking at, but limits their view somewhat.
    • The texture of the vignette is a glass square with a copper border.
  • There is a unique spyglass animation that can be seen in XNUMXrd person mode.

Summoning Eggs

  • The Axolotl Spawn Egg has been added to the game.
  • The Goat Spawn Egg has been added to the game.
  • The Glowing Octopus Egg has been added to the game.

  • Can be obtained by using a bucket of water on an axolotl.

Luminous ink bag

  • Dropped by Glowing Octopuses when killed.
  • Can be used to create a glowing frame.
  • Can be used to make the text on the plate luminosity.

Mobs

Axolotl

  • Spawns in underground waters.
  • Can be caught with a bucket of water.
  • Axolotl can be bred with tropical fish or a bucket of them.
  • Passive towards players.
  • It comes in five different colors: yellow, brown, white, pink, and a rare blue.
  • Can pretend to be dead when damaged, gaining a tier I regeneration effect.
  • Attacks drowned, guardians, octopuses and fish.
    • It is always hostile to fish and octopuses, and to drowned men and guards only after feeding on tropical fish.

Goat

  • It only spawns in the mountain biome.
  • Can jump higher than other mobs to avoid obstacles, about 5 blocks high.
  • Takes reduced fall damage.
  • Avoids loose snow by jumping over it.
  • Has no drop.
  • Can be bred with wheat to produce a kid.
  • The bucket can be used on them to get milk.
  • Gores other entities and even an armor stand.
  • It will look at the player for some time, and then it can hit him.

Glowing octopus

  • Was added from Minecraft Earth according to the voting results.
  • Underwater mob, which in behavior is no different from an ordinary octopus.
  • Spawns in underground waters.
  • It is a target for the axolotl, even without the latter's provocation.
  • When a glowing octopus dies, glowing ink sacs fall out of it.
  • Does not affect the level of illumination, only simulates the glow of itself.
  • Stops glowing for a short time and quickly floats away after taking damage.

Generating the world

Amethyst Geode

  • A new structure that can sometimes be found underground (may occasionally appear on the surface near sea level).
  • Contains amethyst blocks and blooming amethyst blocks encased in a shell of calcite and smooth basalt.
    • It can also spawn with a small air pocket nearby that can reveal the geode itself.
  • Usually generated at or below sea level (Y = 63).
  • Most often generated at lower levels (from Y = 0 to Y = 40).
  • Generates on top of standard caves and canyons, and an abandoned mine generates on top of this structure.
  • It currently has a high chance of generating, presumably for the purpose of testing the innovation, which was also done when adding the destroyed Nether portal to the game.

Game process

Death messages

  • Added 3 new death messages:
