Danganronpa characters

So, without further ado, let's dive into all the Danganronpa characters from the first game in the series, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. Be careful, spoilers ahead!

Monokuma in Danganronpa

Monokuma is a sentient, robotic teddy bear and the self-proclaimed headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy. He is also the instigator of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc's Killing School Life. At first, Monokuma seems very cheerful and calm, but as you get to know him, he reveals his sinister motives and evil nature. He finds joy in chaos and violence, and his catchphrase is "thrills, chills and kills!"

Its black and white design represents its duality, like the two sides of Yin and Yang. His white side has a cute, happy face that appears closer to a traditional teddy bear, while his black side has an evil smile and red eyes that are very similar to the Hope's Peak Academy logo.

Junko Enoshima in Danganronpa

Junko Enoshima is an absolute fashionista of Hope's Peak Academy and the most iconic student in the lineup - even if you've never played Danganronpa, you've probably seen this girl at some point. She seems a bit short-tempered and airy at first, and her carefree, talkative personality often gets her into trouble.

SPOILERS: However, as we progress through the game, we see her darker side, showing her to be extremely apathetic and obsessed with despair. She frequently switches between manic "moods", from nauseating sweetness to severe depression, making her extremely unpredictable and difficult to read.

Makoto Naegi in Danganronpa

Makoto Naegi is a student in the 78th grade at Hope's Peak Academy. Known as "Ultimate Lucky Student" or "Ultimate Hope", he has a unique sense of optimism and is a kind, supportive and sweet person, but can be quite naive at times.

He is a pacifist who tends to avoid violence at all costs, and is much more friendly and approachable than other students in his class. He dislikes Junko and blames her and Monokuma for the unnecessary deaths of his friends during the killing game.

Aoi Asahina in Danganronpa

Aoi Asahina, nicknamed Hina, is a student in the 78th grade at Hope's Peak Academy. An extremely active person, Aoi excels in all sports, with her favorite being competitive swimming. She broke records and won medals in every swimming event she had competed in since elementary school and was selected to become an Olympic cadet. It was her swimming talent that led to her being scouted by Hope's Peak Academy, which also earned her the "Ultimate Swimming Pro" title.

Byakuya Togami in Danganronpa

Heir to a global financial conglomerate, Byakuya Togami is a wealthy student of the 78th grade at Hope's Peak Academy. Due to the peculiar inheritance system of the Togami family, Byakuya was forced to fight against his 15 half-siblings in an attempt to become the next head of the family.

Despite being the youngest challenger, he won and expressed his goal for his family's corporation to reach even greater heights. Having amassed an impressive level of personal wealth in addition to his family's wealth, Byakuya was scouted by Hope's Peak Academy as the "Ultimate Wealthy Offspring".

Celestia Ludenberg in Danganronpa

Celestia Ludenberg, nicknamed Celeste, is a 78th grade student at Hope's Peak Academy, known for her penchant for fabrications. In fact, she tells so many lofty stories that her peers have called her the "Queen of Liars" and no one really knows the truth about her life before the murder. Skilled in the world of gambling, she defeated many opponents in four years before Hope's Peak Academy scouted her as the "Ultimate Gambler".

Chihiro Fujisaki in Danganronpa

Chihiro Fujisaki is a technology professional and a programmer at Hope's Peak Academy in the 78th grade. While mocking him for being "so weak despite being a boy" in his youth, Chihiro developed a weakness complex and began dressing like a girl and hiding behind a computer to escape the social expectations of masculinity placed on him. Later, revealed to be a teenage genius, Chihiro gained notoriety for creating cutting-edge software.

Hifumi Yamada in Danganronpa

Hope's Peak Academy's 78th grade creator Hifumi Yamada describes his young self as an unfriendly, soft-spoken boy who loved to draw. After a character named Princess Piggles from an anime appeared in his dreams, he became obsessed, buying merchandise, creating fan art, and writing fan fiction about her.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru in Danganronpa

With the title of "Ultimate Moral Compass", Kiyotaka Ishimaru is a 78th grade student at Hope's Peak Academy who has dedicated himself to restoring the honor of his family name. His grandfather was once the Prime Minister of Japan, but brought shame to his relatives due to a catastrophic scandal.

As such, Kiyotaka considers it his duty to succeed through hard work rather than talent, so he sacrifices hobbies and social interactions in favor of studying, which leads him to become a model student but prevents him from making many friends.

Kyoko Kirigiri in Danganronpa

Stoic and intelligent, Kyoko is an enigmatic young woman who tends to hide her emotions and stay far away from her peers. This led her to receive the title of Ultimate??? in the 78th grade at Hope's Peak Academy. She keeps her head level and looks at things objectively without jumping to conclusions, making her a valuable ally to Makoto during class trials.

Leon Kuwata in Danganronpa

Leon Kuwata is a reluctant Ultimate 78th grade baseball star at Hope's Peak Academy who would rather have his title be Ultimate Musician. Because of his natural talent for baseball, he was encouraged by others to continue playing since childhood. Eager to forge his own new identity, after falling in love with a girl he met at a salon, he decided to pursue a more musical path, completely changing his style in an attempt to impress her.

Mondo Owada in Danganronpa

Mondo Owada is a 78th grade student at Hope's Peak Academy who boasts the title of Ultimate Leader of the Biker Gang. Having developed a great passion for cycling when he was young, his brother inspired him to take the helm and continue to expand the reach and reputation of The Crazy Diamonds, which later became known as Japan's largest and most violent biker gang. Despite his penchant for crime and fighting, he was scouted by Hope's Peak Academy after his brother's death, accepting the position with the intention of seeking other aspirations.

Mukuro Ikusaba in Danganronpa

SPOILERS: The top soldier of the 78th class at Hope's Peak Academy, Mukuro Ikusaba is Junko's older fraternal twin sister. Since her youth, Junko has been manipulated by Mukuro to help her "paint the world in despair", leading Junko to adopt the moniker "Sisters of Despair" for both of them.

While still a child, Mukoro disappeared while on holiday with her family in Europe, after which she joined Fenrir's mercenary group in the Middle East. During her service in a group of mercenaries, she entered into direct combat, but she never received a single wound on the battlefield.

Sakura Ogami in Danganronpa

As the ultimate martial artist of the 78th class at Hope's Peak Academy, Sakura Ogami is a talented fighter. Her family maintained their dojo for over three centuries, maintaining an old-fashioned way of life. As a child, Sakura trained extremely hard with the goal of becoming stronger than her male family members in order to prove her worth - and she achieved this goal by surpassing her father at the young age of 14. She is an ambitious young woman whose intimidating looks and dedication to training have led to a life of loneliness. She hopes to one day become the strongest human being alive.

Sayaka Maizono in Danganronpa

Sayaka Maizono is the absolute pop sensation of the 78th grade at Hope's Peak Academy. Raised by a widowed father, Sayaka spent most of her time alone while he worked, finding comfort and strength in the idols she saw on TV. As a result, she decided to become an idol herself in order to offer the same support to others, but due to her determination, she often made bad decisions and sacrifices to achieve her dreams.

Toko Fukara in Danganronpa

Danganronpa Toko characters surrounded by books

A smart but gloomy outcast, Toko Fukara is the ultimate prodigy of the 78th grade at Hope's Peak Academy. Due to the intense bullying she went through as a child, she has become suspicious of others, often paranoid about what they say behind her back. She has no filter, often comes across as cruel due to her brutal honesty, and is very shy, showing a tendency to be self-receptive and reject any compliments sent to her along the way. She experienced a lot of abuse in her youth, which led her to develop DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and a crippling fear of the dark.

Her talent for writing was discovered by a teacher who read a love letter she wrote for an unrequited crush in eighth grade, which led her to write a series of books. Her romance novel So Lingers the Ocean became a huge hit, she won numerous awards for her work and often found herself on the top-selling list.

Yasuhiro Hagakure

Yasuhiro Hagakure, also known as Hiro, is a student in the 78th grade at Hope's Peak Academy. He is a bit of an oddball and not particularly liked due to his tendency to be cowardly, lazy, and a bit selfish. However, he is one of the funniest and most laid-back students in his class.

Yasuhiro has issues with women and manages his money, often spending impulsively, but he has managed to amass a small fortune by offering his services as a fortune teller - although he has often scammed his clients. Extorting the wrong client, he ended up accumulating a bunch of debts by going into hiding, before taking refuge in Hope's Peak Academy, becoming the Ultimate Clairvoyant.

And these are all the characters. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc - good luck surviving the killing school life of Hope's Peak Academy with this gang of misfits!
