What do you need when searching?
Bait
Once in the habitat of a certain animal, you will need to use the bait so that it appears in front of you. Of course, each animal needs its own special bait.
Odor neutralizer
You do not want the animal to notice you ahead of time. By applying an odor neutralizer on Arthur, you can get close to the animal without being noticed, which makes the hunting process much easier.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Hunting Guide
Hunting is mainly useful for three things: meat, hides, and crafting items. If you want to keep your health high, wear the best clothes, and craft the best ammo, hunting is your bread and butter. Here are just a few of the things you can do with hunting supplies:
- Building a fire and cooking meat is one of the easiest ways to get Arthur to work at full capacity.
- Animal parts can be used in the crafting campfire, such as animal fat for explosives and feathers for special types of arrows.
- Animal carcasses and parts can be donated to Pearson in the camp both as donations and for upgrades.
- Animal carcasses and parts can be sold to butchers for profit.
- ➤You can use certain body parts to craft talismans at the fences , constantly improving your performance.
- ➤Skinning animals helps solve your Master Hunter tasks and create the best Red Dead Redemption 2 costume.
Red Dead Redemption 2: Hunting Tips
First, you should avoid encounters with animals below three stars. When you spot your prey from a distance - make sure you stay upwind so they don't pick up your scent, visible in Eagle Eye mode - pull out your binoculars. Examine the animal and it should give you a star rating on its hide. Three stars - Pristine is what you need.
You need to use the correct animal ammo to keep the pelt high quality. You also need to try to kill with one shot, and not constantly shoot at them and make a bunch of holes.
Red Dead Redemption 2 - how to get clean hunting kills
As mentioned above, the quality of your kill depends on using the right ammo (which you can check in the compendium) as well as a clean kill. All animals have kill spots where you can instantly kill them. These areas will be highlighted in red once you reach Dead Eye level 4.
This Dead Eye upgrade, unlocked in Chapter 5, causes your reticle to turn red when approaching vital organs such as the brain or heart. Hit those small targets for an instant kill. Keep in mind that you also have to consider infiltration - for example, animals with thick skulls can only be instantly killed with high-velocity ammo and high-powered rifles.
