Wargaming Apologizes to World of Warships Players and Promises Improvements
About the recent scandal with "aggressive monetization" (removal of ships returning in loot boxes), after which a bucket of slop spilled on the creators of World of Warships. The case was so serious that many WoW content creators decided to end their partnership and leave the game.
We wrote about this here .
However, Wargaming did not hide its head in the sand. They took the (well-deserved ???) hatred on their chests and in yesterday's letter to the community ( HERE ) apologized for their inappropriate behavior, promising far-reaching changes so that a situation like this would never happen again.
(we publish only extensive excerpts)
Dear players,
Recently, many of you have been frustrated by various in-game incidents, our decisions, and the general state of World of Warships and its community. Before we continue, we want to apologize to all of you, both gamers and content creators, moderators, testers and other volunteers, those who support us and those who let us down. We are responsible for everything that happens in the game and in the community, and we apologize for allowing this to happen.
Monetization
World of Warships is a free-to-play game-as-a-service game with significant monthly updates and a constant development cycle. To support this model, we use a number of game monetization methods that are considered industry standard practice. While we think it's unreasonable to expect us to go into more detail about our monetization strategies - this is ultimately critical to our business - we recognize that there are some details that many of you may be concerned about.
From now on, for all new ships, if they are distributed through containers or random bundles, they can be obtained in a different way.
Fall indicators. We plan to publish all the drop rates for all containers and random sets in the game and are already working on it. It will take us some time, but we strongly believe that it will happen within the next year.
Contact Us
One of the main topics we want to cover is how your feedback affects the game. Unfortunately, it hasn't always been clear how we use your feedback and what place it has in our decision-making process. We've always considered this, but looking back, we see that in some cases it was underutilized compared to other sources of information that are important to us: big data and the creative vision of the team's work. We want to change this and pay more attention to your suggestions and opinions, and help you better understand how we make decisions.
Communications
We are a large distributed team of 500 people working in over 4 countries. We come from different walks of life and different cultures, and we are also facing severe disadvantages caused by the global pandemic. This limits our ability to meet in person to agree on certain issues, and as a result, we face communication problems. However, these internal problems should not be obvious, much less affect the gameplay. Improving communication is a never-ending process that should be evolutionary, not revolutionary, so over time these improvements will be seen incrementally in many areas, not as one-off institutional changes made overnight.
All this is just our present foreground. We will look for other interesting solutions. We want to show you our responsibility, care for the game, both in communication with you and through the specific actions described above (and not only), so that the game is better for everyone.
And How? Did they convince you?
