Warzone 2.0 DMZ: New Call of Duty Game Mode Explained

Warzone 2.0 is slated for a worldwide release on November 16 following the successful launch of Activision's latest game, Modern Warfare 2. The game quickly caught the attention of the entire community as gamers began to grind it up for rewards.

The developers have confirmed the existence and upcoming survival game mode, DMZ, which is supposedly the vision of the creators of their own game mode, similar to Escape from Tarkov implemented in the game.

There were several leaks prior to confirmation, and fans began spinning theories about how the game mode might take shape and what impact it might have for the upcoming Battle Royale.

Warzone 2.0 will be a free-to-play battle royale game just like its predecessor. The game will take place on a brand new map called Al Mazra, accompanied by brand new combat and movement mechanics.

Warzone 2.0 DMZ is short for Demilitarized Zone

Warzone 2.0 is expected to be a step forward in realism and player immersion with the introduction of real combat moves across land, air and even water. Mixing in more advanced AIs that act differently after considering player positioning and playstyle makes it feel like they're attacking heavily guarded areas.

DMZ is short for demilitarized zone and refers to ceasefire areas that do not allow any form of military activity. The publishers will introduce a mode similar to Escape from Tarkov alongside Warzone 2.0 as a survival game mode.

DMZ Game Mode Supposed to Have Both PvP and PvE Modes

While the community has some idea of how Call of Duty's DMZ mode is shaping up, there's no confirmation on any of the intelligence given that no official gameplay or announcements have been made. This game mode will feature the entire Warzone 2.0 "Al Mazrah" map for all players to enter and choose how and which missions they want to approach.

New leaks about the DMZ mode imply that fans can choose from a range of different options to play the game mode. The map will be filled with advanced AIs that can determine if combat is worth accepting or if they should avoid it in order to gain an advantage over players.

The game mode is supposed to have both PvP and PvE modes where players can choose options that aim for their comfort zones to be able to enjoy this sandbox game mode, as developers Infinity Ward have confirmed in the past.

Possible tasks and goals

The most obvious leaks involve multiple targets that players can choose to complete and retrieve from the battlefield. These goals can include missions such as escaping with certain enemy weapons, getting a certain amount of cash from all over the map, getting information from heavily guarded areas, or even securing SAM sites. Players will be able to save and carry their loot from one match to another if they survive.

There are also signs of sabotage-type missions that aim to prevent the AI from moving around certain areas of the map that they will be deployed to protect. The community expects the DMZ mode to be a fair competitor to Escape from Tarkov, given that the game mode has been in development for a long time.

Similarly, players can also only play against the AI, and there may be an option to adjust the difficulty of the deadly soldiers. It can be assumed that the PvE mode will be purely exploratory and the loot obtained from these matches will not be carried over to avoid unfair advantages against other players.

This concludes everything we know so far about the DMZ mode that will be released with Warzone 2.0. It is important to note that the above discussion is based on leaks and theories and therefore cannot be confirmed without any official announcements.

Fans can expect DMZ news closer to November 16th as Warzone 2.0 prepares for its launch.
