We're going to take a look at a few ways to get yourself some gold in World of Warcraft: Classic!

WHY DO I GOLD?

It is important to understand that gold is much more difficult to make in classic World of Warcraft. Players who have played in the past when the game first came out will remember the long rise from level 30 to 40 where you had to accumulate tons of gold to get your first mount. This is incredibly important because you will immediately want to receive the amount. Moving around in the game is a huge pain, you will be tied to flight paths and run (slowly) to get where you need to go. Your first mount in Classic is one of the big upgrades you get, and it makes getting around the map much easier.

Professions

One of the best ways to earn gold is to take up professions very early in the game, basically as soon as they are available. Gathering professions, in particular, are the best for making money. Do you want to choose from two options for mining, herbalism and skinning? Choose what you think will go best with the profession you might want to get when you reach level 60. Mining comes with Blacksmithing, Herbalism comes with Alchemy, and Flaying comes with Leatherworking.

You should do this while you're leveling up because your ability to gain resources is tied to your skill level in a specific Gathering Profession. In normal World of Warcraft, you can collect whatever you want and still get skill points and materials. In WoW Classic, you must be of a certain skill level to collect a resource.

SAVE MONEY AND TIME

Find a mage to get food/drink

Food and drink are very important and you will probably always need some to restore your health and mana. Instead of buying it, try to befriend a mage and ask him to create it for you. If you don't have a friend or guildmate, there are players who will hang out in the main cities who will most likely sell it to you for a fraction of the cost, then you will spend on a supplier.

Don't Buy Every Skill

When you get some new skills from a trainer, you don't have to grab everything that's available. Only buy the ones you actually plan on using, there are many skills that aren't or won't be useful at all for the build you're running.

Bank Alt

Create a character that you don't intend to level up so you don't have to make long journeys around the map to get to the bank or auction house. It will also save you some money on tolls, and just save you a lot of time overall. Submit any items you wish to keep or auction to this character.

HOW TO GET GOLD IN WOW CLASSIC: FARMING PRACTICES

Here are some concrete ways to make yourself some money in vanilla World of Warcraft!

BUY LOW AND SELL HIGH AT THE AUCTION HOUSE

This has been the most common strategy for farming gold throughout the life of World of Warcraft. This can be a long term strategy, however if you need gold right away then you may want to consider some other options.

What you want to do is collect enough gold to buy both Shadow Fang and Assassin Blade from the Auction House. They will flood the market depending on how many people play the game in the early stages of launch. You can then hopefully sell them a couple of months later when the surplus of items has gone down and demand has gone up. This should net you a pretty decent profit, but again this is a longer term tactic.

MAG ONLY: SELL PORTALS, WITCH FOOD AND DRINKS

As people hone their levels, they will hopefully cut down on the amount of time spent traveling across Azeroth. If you are a mage, you can charge people with silver to transport them to the next location! You can do this while sitting in the main hub city (Stormwind for Alliance and Orgrimmar for Horde). You can also conjure stacks of food and drink and sell them to players. Just bid less than it will cost.

FISHING

Fishing is one of the most lucrative professions and anyone can get it. This is something you will want to level up because the fish you can catch like rock eel and night bass sell very well on the auction house because they are both used by raiders either in potions or for food.

Nightfin Snapper

Nightfin Snapper is used in the recipe for Nightfin Soup, which is used by healers not only to restore health but also mana. Fish can only be caught at night, from 6pm to 6am at any time on your server. You can find them in the following places:

Feralas (Horde): Camp Mojache
Un'Goro Crater: North of the Ridge of the Fire Plume
(River)
Eastern Plaguelands: Beyond Stratholme
Azhara: Lake Mennar

Stone Eel

Eels are used by alchemists to create rock oil, which is then used to create valuable potions such as titan flare. You will need to have at least 205 skills to catch them and they are best handled at night. You can find them in the following places:

Azhara: bay of storms
Tanaris: Port Steamwheel
Hinterlands (Horde): Hawkclaw Village
Feralas (Alliance): Feathermoon Outpost

GRINDING WHEEL

If you're looking for a bunch of leather, raiding reagents, and maybe a rare pet, Whelp Slaying is for you! You can go back at 60 and grind them, or you can add them to your experience and make some gold along the way. These dragons drop small fire sacs that can be used to craft Dragon Chili (Cooking), Fire Protection Potion (Alchemy), and Flame Reflector (Engineering). Each type of assistance listed below can also drop a pet puppy, which can be sold for gold on the auction house. Keep in mind that a pet is very rare, about a 1 in 1000 chance of being dropped. So, don't count on getting one of these unless you're very dedicated to fighting them.

Crimson Whelps (Level 25-26)

You will find Crimson Whelps in the swamps. You must be level 26+ to kill them effectively. They might drop the tiny crimson baby dragon!

Sleeping Cubs (Level 35 - 36)

Sleeping hatchlings can be found in the Swamp of Sorrows. You must be level 36+ to kill them effectively. It's quite a popular spot, so you can't be alone in the area unless you've leveled up pretty quickly or are on a nearby server. They have the ability to drop a tiny Emerald Hatchling pet.
