X-Files Finally Back On TV With The Animated Series On FOX
The popular 90s sci-fi show The X-Files will live on again, returning as an animation called Albuquerque. On August 28, Fox announced their plans to bring the beloved series to a new medium.
The X-Files debuted in 1993 and became an absolute cultural phenomenon. Viewers around the world have fallen in love with FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they travel the world investigating the paranormal.
While the original series ended in 2002, the show was brought back in 2016 for a revival season that ran for two years. Fans wanting more are in luck as the franchise is once again being revived - this time as an animated series.
The X-Files gets new life as an animated series
On August 28, it was revealed that the Fox Network is currently developing The X-Files: Albuquerque. The new show is an animated film that will be a spin-off. However, the new version will not feature the lead roles of Mulder and Scully.
According to publication Deadline Albuquerque will be more comedy-based and will center around a group of "irrelevant" FBI agents. The new team will review The X-Files, which the publication says are "too wacky, ridiculous, or downright stupid for Mulder and Scully to mess with."
While some fans may be disappointed that the pair aren't part of the story, Fox doesn't rule out future cameos. It's also not the first time the franchise has been set up in a different medium - from 2011 to 2015, series creator Chris Carter wrote the official season 10 and 11 comics published by IDW.
While aliens and monster of the week episodes have come to define The X-Files in many ways, the beloved show has been infamous for its humor and comedic storylines. The animation seems to focus on the latter.
Albuquerque will be created by animation studio Bento Box and will be curated by Chris Carter and Gabe Rotter, who will serve as executive producers. At the time of writing, it is unclear when the project will debut.
