Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen - first look.

hellboy2019

The first Hellboy trailer gives viewers a sneak peek at the long-awaited cinematic reboot of the classic Dark Horse Comics series. Created by Mike Mignola, Hellboy centers around the adventures of a demon raised by a secret government agency (BPRD - Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense) tasked with protecting the world from paranormal threats and training to be a living weapon against the forces of darkness.

The 2019 Hellboy movie is heavily based on the story from the Wild Hunt comics and will be truer to the comics in terms of its script and look, according to Mike Mignola, who took a more hands-on approach to this movie than he did. did previous Hellboy films.

The Hellboy trailer is full of subtle nods to the original comics that Hellboy devotees are sure to appreciate. The long teaser also gives a glimpse of all the major players in the film and gives a glimpse of what's to come. Learn the secrets of the story and more in our Hellboy selection.

25. ETERNAL WAR

Hellboy-The-Forever-War

The Hellboy trailer opens on an ominous note as we see two figures in the distance walking through a dimly lit cavern. Then we hear two voices. The first describes a warning that something is coming. The second speaks of an "eternal war" and that any hope of ending it lies in the "strong right hand" of the person he is talking to. Presumably both speakers are referring to Hellboy, who is the comedian of the prophecy.

24.EXCALIBUR

EXCALIBUR

It doesn't take a degree in Celtic mythology to guess the authenticity of the sword in this stone, which Hellboy discovers in a half-flooded underground cavern. Excalibur is the legendary sword of King Arthur. Hellboy briefly wielded Excalibur in the comics while fighting the forces of Nimyu, the Blood Queen. This would seem to confirm that he will do the same in the film.

23. DEMONS IN THE SKY

DEMONS IN THE SKY

The Hellboy trailer then tells us about a breathtaking image of several winged figures flying over what appears to be the British Museum. Presumably they are some kind of demons, since the creatures look like fallen angels (i.e. winged humanoids), and they are definitely hostile to people on the street.

22. HELLBOY ALLY OF PEOPLE

Hellboy-Nearly-Gets-Shot-By-His-Allies-Hellboy-2019

The trailer makes it clear to those unfamiliar with the previous films and comics that Hellboy is on the side of humanity despite his demonic appearance. This becomes clear when one of the SWAT officers forming a perimeter around the museum reflexively fires a shot at Big Red. This leads to Hellboy angrily yelling "I'm on your side!"

21. Ian McShane as Professor

Ian McShane as Professor

The trailer for Hellboy features Ian McShane as Professor Broome, a member of the BPRD who first discovered that Hellboy was an infant and was acting as the boy's adoptive father. However, their relationship is far from that of a loving father and son, as Hellboy later notes that his "father" received the weapon instead of Legos.

20. SECRET BASE IN LONDON

SECRET BASE IN LONDON

Like James Bond's MI6, the BRJ apparently has secret bases behind false storefronts in the middle of major urban areas. In this case, we see Hellboy and company trying to access a secret base hidden in a fish and chip shop called Codswallop. Here, Americans might not get a brilliant enough pun, as Codswallop, which sounds like the name of a fish restaurant, is a British slang term meaning "nonsense." It's also a fair description of what most people consider BPRD's business to be.

19.PRD - BUREAU OF PARANORMAL RESEARCH AND DEFENSE

PRD - BUREAU OF PARANORMAL RESEARCH AND DEFENSE

The Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense is officially called a moment later. We see the emblem of the BPRD - a fist wrapped around a sword, enclosed in a circle with the name of the organization - painted on the floor of the secret base. This will be a familiar sight for fans of Hellboy and BPRD comics.

18. HELLBOY BECAME A WEAPON

hellboy-2019

Although Hellboy is a hero by training, he is under no illusions about how BNRJ perceives him. He angrily accuses Professor Broom of turning him into a weapon when we see Hellboy effectively taking down several supernatural threats. Professor Broome replies that he just wanted Hellboy to be "the best of you". This alludes to the complicated relationship between Hellboy and Professor Broom.

17. Big Baby

hellboy big baby

Hellboy's signature pistol, the Big Baby, also appears in the trailer. A big baby with six shooters, sized to fit Hellboy's right hand, "Big Baby" fires small rockets rather than standard shots. You can see it in action all over the place, causing a lot of explosive bloodshed.

16. WILD HUNTING

16. WILD HUNTING

We briefly see Hellboy on horseback with four people wearing high-tech backpacks brandishing spears, led by a horned helmeted figure. Taken directly from the comics, this is the Wild Hunt, an event organized by members of a secret society called the Osiris Club when it is said that giants are awakening in the wilds of England (which Hellboy reveals while fighting later in the trailer). The hunt is named and modeled after the wild hunt of Celtic legend.

15 Sasha Lance as Alisa Monaghan

The Hellboy trailer also gives us a glimpse of Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan. Hellsboy saved fairies from being torn out as babies, Alice has a unique talent to see through the spells of fairies, as well as those magicians who gain power from communication with fairies. Undoubtedly, this will make her invaluable to the BNR when they go up against Nimue, who was once known as the Lady of the Lake.

14. OSIRIS Club

14. OSIRIS Club

It is likely that the group of well-dressed British gentlemen questioning Hellboy about his hand probably belongs to the Osiris club. The Osiris Club, a secret society created in the original Hellboy comics, knows a little more about the truth about various supernatural vices than other gentlemen's clubs who claim to know the mysteries of the cosmos. In The Wild Hunt storyline, it is the Osiris Club that calls Hellboy to England to help them with the fighting giants as the story begins.

13. RIGHT HAND DOOM

13. RIGHT HAND DOOM

One of the gentlemen asks Hellboy about the purpose of his giant stone hand. He says, "It's very good at breaking things up." Comic book fans know Hellboy's right hand as Destiny's right hand, an artifact of great power that holds the key to bringing about the end of the world.

12. ELEVATOR CAGE

Hellboy

Hellboy describes how his stone right hand is good for smashing things, we see how he puts it into action. While in the middle of the way the elevator gets stuck. It seems that one hit will instantly fix everything, until the elevator falls to the first floor.

11. AD

Perhaps it is no coincidence that the crash of an elevator falling down leads to a place that seems like hell. Not surprisingly, Hell is a place that plays an important role in the Hellboy comics and is part of the character's name. Considering that part of the Wild Hunt's story involves the politics of hell, it's likely that we'll see quite a bit of that in Hellboy.

10. MORE DEMONS

10. MORE DEMONS

The Hellboy trailer then shows several scenes with various monsters, many of which will be skipped if you blink. These include a boar-headed creature, which is discussed in more detail later, a creature resembling some kind of demonic bat, and a giant with an ax blade for one hand and a sword blade for the other.

9. The secret base of the BPRD

9. The secret base of the BPRD

The Hellboy trailer keeps showing us something like a secret base in the Alpine region; a helicopter landed on this installation. This assumes that the base belongs to the BPRD.

8. MILLA JOVOVICH AS NIM, BLOOD QUEEN

8. MILLA JOVOVICH AS NIM, BLOOD QUEEN

The Hellboy trailer offers us a few glimpses of Milla Jovovich as Nimue. The main villain in Hellboy (and the Wild Hunt on which it is based), Nimyu is a powerful sorceress who was once known as the Lady of the Lake, but since she began worshiping the Ogdr Jahad, she has been named Queen of Blood. the main evil of the Hellboy franchise.

7. BABA YAGA

7. BABA YAGA

At one point, we see Hellboy fall out of the house, which appears to be rising to the top of a huge feathered mass. This is the house of the witch Baba Yaga, who in classical Slavic mythology lived in a house that rested on two giant chicken legs. Baba Yaga is a character of some importance in the Hellboy comics mythology, and appeared in "The Wild Hunt" offering her assistance to Hellboy for a fee.

6. DANIEL DAE KIM AS BEN DAIMIO

6. DANIEL DAE KIM AS BASIC BEN DAIMIO

Daniel Dae Kim makes several appearances in the Hellboy trailer as Major Ben Daimio. A high-ranking member of the USMC, Major Daimio was recruited into the BRPD after being declared legally dead after his squad encountered something strange. It will later be discovered that Major Daimio has become the host of a supernatural being that grants him amazing restorative powers. We won't see these abilities in the trailer, but they will likely show up at some point in the movie.

5. GIANTS

5. GIANTS

The second half of the trailer shows Hellboy fighting giants. The Osiris Club asked him to help in the fight. The fight doesn't go well, as Hellboy rakes away from the giant and takes off into flight, in a scene that will sound familiar to anyone who's fought giants in Skyrim.

4. CODSWALLOPS SUPPORTER WITH AUTOMATIC WEAPON

4. CODSWALLOPS SUPPORTER WITH GUNS

The lady behind the counter at Codswallops. We see not only the secretary, but also the fact that she wields a machine gun to deal with an unprecedented threat. Clearly the woman is a highly trained BRPD agent used to guard the front door. It's also clear that Nimue's forces expose the BRJ's secret base at some point in the movie. It is worth mentioning that Layla Morse, known for her role as Moe Harris in the BBC soap opera EastEnders, as well as Gary Oldman's sister, plays in the receptionist.

3. GRUAGAC

Hellboy

Hellboy can be seen at several points in the trailer fighting the boar-headed monster, but we see the beast towards the end as he stands next to the portal along with Nimue. This is Gruagach of Loch Lean, one of Hellboy's most enduring enemies in the comics. Originally a shape-shifting member of the Daoin Sidhe (faerie nobility), he was trapped in the body of the last of the Fomorian Giants after his first encounter with Hellboy. His desire for revenge was the prelude to the events of the Wild Hunt in the comics, and it looks like Gruagach will play a major role in the Hellboy movie as well.

2. "YOU ARRIVED JUST TIME."

Hellboy

In the penultimate scene of the trailer, Hellboy sarcastically asks Nimya if he's interrupting something. Confused, she replies that Hellboy "arrived just in time". In the original Wild Hunt comic, Nimue was a follower of the Ogdru Jahad, the great Dragon of Revelation who would bring the end of the world. Since the key to freeing the Ogdru Jahad is the Right Hand of Doom, and Hellboy is reportedly meant to free the Ogdru Jahad, Nimue demands Hellboy's presence if her goals in the movie aren't similar to those of her comic book counterpart.

1. HELLBOY WEARS THE CROWN OF THE APOCALYPSE

At the end of the trailer, Hellboy is shown wielding a fire sword while a crown of fire sits on his head. Comic book fans will recognize it as the crown of the Apocalypse - a demonic artifact that they empower to become the biblical beast of the Apocalypse that brings about the end of the world in accordance with the prophecy of the Book of Revelation. The crown is usually invisible on the head of the demon who wears it, unless special circumstances reveal it. He has no physical weight and Hellboy didn't even know he had it for most of his life. Something will clearly reveal this in Hellboy.
