Walkthrough Lost Sanctuary God of War: Ragnarok

follow the wolf

During The Lost Sanctuary, you will once again take control of Atreus. Start by interacting with the masked character. You will be taken to Jotunheim - keep following the friendly wolves. You will meet Angrboda, who will become Atreus' companion for the duration of this quest.

In Jotunheim, you can find loot and crafting components used to upgrade Atreus equipment - we recommend that you carefully search the explored locations. You will also be able to improve Atreus' skills, so spend your experience on new abilities.

Explore the Iron Forest with Angrboda

Follow Angrboda. Use the bow on the green barriers to open paths for Atreus (Angrboda will go his own way).

Grab onto the ledge above and face your opponents head to head. Click on the top seal to open an interactive hook. Now destroy the green barricades and shoot the seal from the screenshot. You will unlock another interactive barrier.

Follow the path made by the upper ledges and use the arrows to open another passage.

During the next battle, you will learn about the opportunity to ask for help from Angrboda (Square). She has a Runestone in her possession. Enemies hit by the stone are covered in purple dust that explodes when hit by Atreus' arrows. This is a good way to quickly get rid of monsters.

Destroy additional barricades to reach a large boulder that Atreus and Angrboda must lift together. Grab the top hook and jump onto the circular structure.

Angrboda will offer a race, but you don't have to win it to continue the story. During the next battle, you will learn about the possibility of summoning the Ghostly Falcon. This is Angrboda's alternate attack (her primary is Runestone) and can be activated by holding a square. Use this new ability to deal with opponents more effectively.

Meet Angrboda at the temple

You will reach Angrboda's treehouse, a safe place. Look at the drawings on the rock on the left (during the quest you will unlock two additional ones).

Take the bag - you can feed the Jalla - a friendly animal. The next section is explored from the back of Jalla and you need to go through the Vimur River location. Collect Jotunheim fruits as you travel - the first one is hanging from a tree (screenshot) and you need to get close to it to grab it.

Climb up the ledge, wait for Angrboda to perch on the branch and collect another piece of fruit. During this time, Jalla will overcome the obstacle, and the journey will continue. You can collect additional fruits (even after you have completed the task), as each fruit collected is worth 50 XP.

You will reach an obstacle that Jalla cannot overcome. Use the sonic arrows to hit the green boards marked in the screenshot.

This will open the way forward - you will return to Angrboda's house. Place the fruit in the bucket. Now you can explore the environment, and most importantly, look inside the large closet from the screenshot above. Among other things, you'll find Jotnar's Champion's Garb and Jotnar's Bow Schematic, which increases Rune Damage. You can craft it and start slithering if you have the required ingredients (Idalir wood).

Climb onto Jalla's back to start a new tour. This time you need to collect the roots - Angrboda will collect the first one, and you can help by collecting another one (screenshot).

At some point, monsters will appear that will cause you to fall off Jalla's back. During the battle, you will unlock a new ability - Atreus' Spartan Fury (L3 R3).

The standard form of Spartan Fury turns you into a huge wolf, defeating opponents in this form is much easier. Pick up more roots between battles. You will return to Angrboda's house again - place the collected roots in a bucket.

Follow Angrboda through the canyon

Climb back to Jallu. Along the way, you can optionally improve the technique of launching stones with a frog - you need to release R2 at the moment when a small flash appears on Atreus' hand (screenshot). A sufficient number of successful rolls unlocks an additional treasure.

The main route will take you to the Jotnar Trail. Explore the canyon and defeat the monsters you encounter. You will reach the Valley of the Fallen. On the way back to Jalla you will encounter a powerful beast - keep it at a distance, use special attacks and dodge often. Or wait until Spartan Fury is charged. Get to the elevator and return to Jalla.

Kill the enemies at the pit

Angrboda will open a hidden passage leading to a failure - you must descend into it with a rope. Once at the bottom, you can ask Angrboda to light the torch.

You must search the area for nests of villains and destroy them with ranged or melee attacks so that no more enemies crawl out of them. You will realize that you are near the nest when single opponents appear next to you - use the hints and find the nests in these places.

There are other types of monsters in the pit. Some nests are hidden behind green barricades. One of the barricades was destroyed by a shot through a hole in the rocks (screenshot). In total, you need to destroy 4 nests.

After the nests are cleared, you need to return to the surface - follow Angrboda. Along the way, you'll have to deal with Bersgra (use Spartan Fury to deal damage and Angrboda's help to stun the beast). Use the rope to leave the caves.

Free the wolf from Grila's clutches

Climb back to Jalla and start exploring the swamp. Soon you will learn about Grila and the wolf she captured. You will encounter monsters that jump at you with suicidal attacks and splash acid as they explode. Attack them from afar, and if they manage to get close, dodge.

Keep destroying the green barricades with sonic arrows. Here you will meet Wulver. You need to defeat the werewolf - use Spartan Fury to deal damage and Angrboda's help to stun the beast. Be sure to keep your distance and dodge.

You will reach a blocked passage. Look for interactive hooks in the area and position yourself so that you can hit the green object on the hanging cage (screenshot). Wait for Angrboda to open the upper passage.

You have entered Grila's domain. Stand at the door with the key. Keep going forward and use your bow to hit green targets with arrows. In the next room, help Angrboda move the item.

Free the wolf

Greela appeared - you need to sneak and slowly move towards the captured wolf. Once you get to him, press the interact button - this will get Greela's attention. Enter the narrow path and get to the top of the hall.

How to destroy the cauldron guarded by the boss?

Grila is Angrboda's grandmother. You can defeat Greela by destroying her cauldron. The on-screen health bar is for the cauldron, not Greela, because destroying him will be your priority in this fight (rather than defeating the female giant).

Atreus will start by sticking his blade into the rune on the cauldron and you have to quickly press X. This will get Grila's attention. It will not allow you to easily damage the boiler. The woman will remove it and begin to protect.

During the fight, you must wait until the rune on the cauldron is briefly exposed. Quickly use the bow to hit her.

The cauldron can also be attacked when the rune is closed, but then its health will decrease very slowly.

You must also avoid Greela's attacks. Watch out for her attempts to crush Atreus underfoot - stay on the move and be ready to dodge.

Yellow boss attack - shoots purple projectiles from the cauldron, it's safest to dodge to the side.

The red attack covers a large area and you can think of it as a stronger variant of yellow. As soon as you notice that Greela is preparing to attack, start running away. Projectiles, landing on the ground, explode after a while.

Grila can drop the cauldron - use this opportunity for melee attacks. Hit the cauldron with Atreus' bow instead of aiming at it from a distance.

At certain moments of the battle, the ground will be highlighted in red - a warning about an attack over a larger area:

  • If you are on the lower level, you need to get up to one of the upper platforms as soon as possible.
  • If you are currently on the upper platforms, then you need to jump to the lower level as quickly as possible (note - this is only possible in special places!).

When fighting on the upper level, you theoretically have less room to act, but you can grab interactive hooks and use them to move to other locations.

There are candles in this location and you can ask Angrboda to hit them. Wait for Greela to get close to the candle to stun it for a while and then attack the cauldron again. Do this also when Grila turns away from you - hitting the candle can stop her.

Greela will start using a new type of yellow attack - launching homing purple projectiles. Use the bow to destroy them at once. Otherwise, they can easily hit you while you are doing other things.

At the very end of the fight, Greela will drop the cauldron for the last time. Wait until the R3 icon appears, then quickly press X. The cauldron will be destroyed.

You don't have to keep fighting Greela. Watch the new cut-scene and leave this place with Angrboda.

Return to Angrboda's house

After Greela escapes, squeeze next to the barrel. Atreus will turn into a wolf and you can optionally race against Angrboda, but the outcome of the race is scripted.

Before starting the story, explore Angrboda's house one last time - there are interaction icons next to some objects. To end in Jotunheim, show the drawing on the last stone.

Return home to Sindri

Atreus will return to the heroes' hut in Midgard. There are Hel forces outside and you need to deal with them. Don't forget to break the enemies' defenses by pressing L1 twice and use Atreus' special attacks.

As soon as you try to use the Mystic Gate, Kratos will appear and control will switch back to him. Deal with additional opponents. At some point, the boss will appear - Valkyrie.

You should initiate a confrontation with Valkyrie by quickly pressing X. This will allow Kratos to get up off the ground and move on to the main fight.

The Valkyrie is very agile, so you have to react with quick blocks, parries, and dodges.

Vanadis can use fast charging. This is a normal attack - best to block it.

The Valkyrie can shoot her bow - block these attacks or stay behind the trees.

Valkyrie's yellow attack is done with her sword, but only when you are close to her. Parry this attack or dodge.

Vanadis's red attack is a jump combined with a ground slam. Dodge left or right as this attack cannot be blocked.

After Vanadis has lost about half of her health, you will have to fight her. You will unlock a new type of Spartan Fury - Valor. Pressing L3 and R3 will restore a medium amount of health.

Valkyrie will start using a new red attack - scatter poisonous projectiles around the arena. The best thing to do is to move away from her. Also hold the block button after dodging because Vanadis can use the bow or attack again.

Attack Vanadis after her attacks. Attack a few times, then jump back and wait for her next move.

After Vanadis has the last piece of health left, you will have to fight her again. You don't need to do anything else. Kratos learns the Valkyrie's identity and the battle is over.

Victory in the battle with the Valkyrie opens a new story mission - "Payback".
