Half-Life 3: Valve Reassures Gamers

Valve Software looks forward to the return of Half-Life and doesn't rule out the possibility of developing further games set in the universe, such as the outrageously long-awaited sequel to Gordon Freeman's adventures. Everything will depend on reception by gamers Half Life: Alyx.

Yesterday Valve announced a new game from the Half-Life series. Dubbed Half-Life: Alyx, the game is designed for VR devices and is a chronological prequel to the second part. It turns out that if Alyx succeeds, it won't be the only title in this series we'll get in the coming years. Can we expect a full return to the franchise and the creation of new games? Answer from one of the developers David Speyrer, to one of the questions in an interview for The Vergeleaves no doubt on this issue.

“Yes. It's probably not surprising that many people at Valve have long wanted to return to the Half-Life universe, and this experience has only reinforced that desire. In the process of creating Half-Life: Alyx, we had to explore new ways to tell stories with these characters and this world, and we discovered many new gaming experiences that are beyond what we could do before. Of course, we'll have to wait and see how people react to Half-Life: Alyx when it releases, but we'd like to keep moving forward," the developer said.

It looks like the long-awaited Half-Life 3, which has been rumored so many times that it managed to become a meme, can still be done. It is not yet clear what form a possible continuation of the series could take. All we can do is wait for Half-Life: Alyx and see how the game is received. David Speyrer emphasizes that HL:A is a complete game and not a technology demo. We can expect a campaign length comparable to that of Half-Life 2.

“This is not a side story, nor episodic - it is the next part of the Half-Life story, in a game about the same length as Half-Life 2,” the developer assures.

Half-Life: Alyx will debut in March 2020. The game will blow your mind on PC and will support all Steam-compatible VR-Valve Index, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest glasses (with Link cable).
